...sucks balls.
Running an intentionally misleading crawler on screen about the new NOA, saying it's part of a "long-running academic fraud scandal" but making no mention that men's basketball or football was no longer at issue. To the uninformed makes it sound like it got worse instead of better.
SMDH... but sadly not surprised.

Screw em... that network has gone so far downhill over the last two years. It is sad really... now it is little more than a gossip channel with women dominating the shows.

Mike Tirico is leaving to work for NBC, I have been told. Football loss for ESPN. Wonder how and why this has happened...?

Tirico is an absolute pro at every thing he does. This is a huge loss for the 4 letter. I am sure he got a huge pay raise. The Guy is fantastic

There wouldn't go a day where I wouldn't tune into ESPN radio, or turn on ESPN when I get home from work or late night to catch sportscenter. Now, I rarely watch ESPN when a game isn't on. They have dropped so far in my book over the years.

Gary, I saw the same thing and thought the same. If this were Duke they'd be running periscoping the victory party in Bristol.

Amen. I may be a dick for this but when a woman on ESPN says something I disagree with, I think to myself..."Why do they have this idiot on here? Because she's hot? This is fkn ESPN! Put a dude on there..."

All the above comments match my sentiment exactly. Two other points:
1) on SportsCenter, they have so many commercials it takes about an hour to see 10 minutes of relevant watchable content / highlights.

2) hockey is probably my least favorite of big 4 pro sports, but I am just amazed at how little time they devote to NHL, even in playoff time.

3) ESPN is criminally two - faced (double standard) - when they fire a guy like Schilling (who happens to be a non-PC conservative), but lets people like Tony Kornheiser (and other lefties on the payroll) slander other more conservative causes and people with reckless abandon, with zero consequences.

The whole network is a tabloid version joke. Don't pretend its anything like real journalism.

Speaking of which, what do you guys think of the new morning Sportscenter that's more like a daytime talk show than actual sports reporting?

ESPN is on a slope downward. They were on every cable package for a long time so people who didn't even like sports were paying them a fee , well with people cutting the cord they are making less and less.

Check out Dana O'Neal's ESPN article on the Heels new NOA. Wow - funny and sad how an alleged, would be "journalist" lets her emotions run rampant, and just spew garbage, such hurt feelings, that she has to get her 4-year old crying temper tantrum out there, without looking at the facts at all. She is very pissed that they "targeted" a women's program and basically let the men slide. And she acts as though UNC has some special protection, and had this happened at any other D1 school (well known, or not) - punishments would've been severe.

She seems stupid enough and naive enough in the article as to lead on that she really believes this doesn't happen at EVERY OTHER SCHOOL of EVERY SIZE AND STATURE. Can anyone really be that dumb and lazy? Or biased?

Amazing, ain't it?

Skip Bayliss is leaving too. It looks like he's going to Fox.

Espn is hiring these young people who have not worked their way up through the ranks or paid their dues to earn these positions. Most of their stuff is unwatchable.

The media is just getting worse and worse. There's barely any kind of journalistic integrity anymore from anyone. Whatever happened to guys like Rather and Cronkite?

Article in the Washington Post, they are dying a very slow, oil leak, death. Blah, blah on the fact that they are keeping "over 200 people in talent for broadcast" they are jettisoning all the ones they disagree with (Simmons) or one who is a wpos (Bayless), Tirico is good but the four letters group fails to admit their own actions (poster above touched on their cable charges, they've killed us for decades) are leading them to dissolution or more than likely a lot of change.
Market forces should indicate competition is good, the four letters never had any.

I don't think Rather is a very good example or do you not know why he was removed? He was more likely the beginning of the lack of integrity.
Actually that particular story itself was accurate... they just got screwed by a source and that was used to shoot the messenger. I was never a fan of Rather --- largely because of his over-dramatic on-air style --- but in the end he was the victim of a retaliatory smear.

You forgot the LOL, /sarc, or the emoticon.... at least I hope you were joking when you mention those two straight up lazy, agenda-obsessed hacks as journalistic integrity. If you weren't joking, then, wow....

I don't know exactly why Rather was removed, or retired, or whatever, but if it was solely because of the Bush 41 National Guard / draft evasion, Rather clearly ran with fabricated, fake docs, and Rather (and his editors / producers) did absolutely zero to validate, vet, check sources and accuracy, legitimacy. Because Rather wanted with every fiber of his being to take GWB down.

In fact, that story and agenda is very similar to Kane et al and letting their hatred for UNC and wanting to believe anything to take them down....cloud / overrun objectivity and journalistic standards. Exactly the same for Rather / GWB and Kane / UNC.

"Fake but accurate" - well, that just gets into one guys opinion and emotion. I'm sure Kane still thinks UNC should be taken down, he just can't find the facts to support his case, so has to create them or find where they've been created / fabricated for him.

Fake but accurate is a quite flimsy starting framework to build a journalistic case on, IMO.....

I'm not defending GWB.... just saying....if we get to just what people believe to be true holding up as factual evidence, then we (UNC) would've been totally screwed in this instance.

A UNC parallel to the Rather / GWB storey is if Kane or one of his "sources" created a letter or e-mail from Roy Williams to the players telling them "these classes are easy. You all take only these. I'll make sure you get a good grade without doing anything"......... then just using this "letter" as solid evidence, just because Kane knows in his heart that this is what must be happening, so let's go with it....EVERYBODY with a brain must know for sure that's what Roy really does, so why do we need factual evidence?

Do you not pay attention to mainstream media in general? None of them get facts if it doesn't meet their criteria..... It's why I despise them so.

100% true..... regardless of where their agenda is on some political / cultural spectrum. I concur wholeheartedly with your "great despise" ;)

That one should be in The Onion as a parody piece. That ESPN even let that get posted speaks volumes. Unfortunately I think they've fallen into the "strong opinions drive ratings" narrative of sports talk radio. They have plenty of opinion shows to be sure, but when that seeps into your basic coverage the shark has been jumped.

I too have been curtailing my watching of ESPN over the past few years, but after them firing Schilling, I'm totally done. I was hoping when Fox Sports 1 premiered that it would give ESPN a run for its money, but it has kind of fizzled out

Yeah the way they did Schilling was a real turn off , but let Tony Cornholer say what he wants. Screw ESPN.

If the ACC is smart and really wants Notre Dame full time. ACC Sports will be on NBC and NBC Sports after the current TV deals.

gary, the shark has been jumped for years, now days all they do it try to see who can jump that shark the highest. It is all about ratings, newspaper internet hits, sales of mags and subscriptions. Old saying in advertising, there is no good or bad advertising, the only bad advertising is no advertising.
Dan kana did not have to be right or wrong, all he wanted was to drive attention to what he wrote and he did just that.

The 24hr news networks, ESPN is included, they are and have been for far to long now been forming and framing the news, they do not simply report the news as they did way back with Cronkite and David Brinkly's day. They offer opinion and try to justify opinion as fact by trotting out "expert" after "expert" that just happens to hold their same opinion and is looking to drive the same agenda. It is mind control IMO, established to make you think a certain way and thus act a certain way. We want to rely on the words the media gives us but when you look behind the curtain you see they are not caring about telling you the truth, they just want to drive their own agenda for their own purposes that have little to do with truth. No better example than what we have seen with this UNC NCAA stuff, perfect example, truth and facts did not get in their way and they drove their agendas, they drove them right down our throats.

You can love or hate the NCAA but the NCAA actually stood up to all the agenda driven sports media and said you are not going to force us to over step our authority like you did with the Penn St issue. The media is drilling the NCAA for that decision but the NCAA, at least this time did the right thing, they stayed within their authority with the recently shown NOA. And if you hated UNC then you did not like the NCAA stance, if you loved UNC you love their stance, we all have agendas to...

I think the best way would be to finally get the ACC network in place. NBC doesn't have the resources to match that kind of money. An acc network with ND would bring in a deal that would rival sec money.

Derrick Rose does not hide his distaste for ACC teams. Ever since UNC and Duke downed the so-called fab five he has had it in for the ACC. COME ON Jalen get over it...

It's nobodies fault but their own that the so called fab 5 choked.

Guys, do not read Dana O'Neil. She's this way with every scandal that pops up. She wrote the dumbest crap during the Penn State stuff.....I mean like the DUMBEST crap. Her job at ESPN, best I can figure, is to "cover" college basketball but really it's to play the role of bleeding heart woman with her reactions to any current college scandal.
