FBI Raided Manafort Over Records of Trump Tower Meeting w/ Russians, Mueller Confirms

You've got two more years before that's possible. And, unless the Democrats provide an alternative, other than trying to arrest Trump or just constantly cast him in a bad light, you may have to wait until 2024.
The Dem platform of reparations and guaranteed income for all is going to sink the party worse than it is now.

Nobody is trying to “arrest him.” That’s not how the legal proceedings work in these cases. He cannot he charged or arrested until he is impeached.

Now we know that Manafort setup a backchannel with the Russians for Trump. If mueller gets access to what was said durIng those conversations then impeachment immediately becomes a very real possibility. Manafort has already been charged with conspiracy against the United States.

Your bit about the wealthy and powerful being protected is oversimplistic. They aren’t just magically protected. Manafort was very rich and powerful and the only thing standing between him and spending the rest of his life in prison is providing evidence against trump.

Might want to confer with Mueller on this.

This response sounds dumber and dumber every time you use it.

Good. Then it matches the dumber and dumber threads I use it in.

I've asked before if we could try to just have updates when things actually happen. Getting a new thread every time Trump's 5th grade pen pal gets a speeding ticket, and watching it try to get tied back to how Trump will get impeached/arrested/die starts to get old when nothing actually happens. Feel free to keep doing you though, I clearly can't stop it.

I am curious to see who the democrats are going to nominate. There doesn't appear to be any front runners yet.

No, they aren't "magically protected" at all. You're naive if you believe that wealth and power doesn't protect the wealthy and powerful. Do SOME OF THEM... on very rare occasions... get popped? Sure they do. Just for kicks, go visit some prisons and see how many wealthy, well-connected people are doing time. And, then compare that minuscule number with the other 99.9% of the prison population. The odds are heavily in their favor.

I said way back that some of Trump's flunkies might get popped... maybe! But, Donald Trump isn't going anywhere. And, this Russia-Collusion crap is an ongoing distraction and illusion. The sides switched and it's necessary to keep that ruse going. The Democrats are just as complicit and chummy with Russians, and whatever other "enemy" as the Republicans. They rub elbows with the best and worst of them, too.

So, if you believe that America's law enforcement institutions are going to break-ranks and indict and incarcerate the ones who sign their checks, then you're much more optimistic than I will ever be.

They will wheel-out the usual suspects. After this last election, I have vowed to either 1) never vote again (it's meaningless anyway on a national level), or 2) always vote 3rd party, like I've done all of my life (meaningless, too). I went against my better judgment and conscience and voted for a major party candidate and have regretted it every day since.

I disagree totally. The moderate will be a welcomed change. But, I wouldn't trust the moderate any more than I trust the dipshit-in-chief now. If anything, this Trump adminstration shows just how easily that office can be put on auto-pilot. I'm fully aware of the things Trump has done to reverse his predecessor's contributions. But, they just get switched-back when the song ends and a new one begins.

Since you totally disagree tell me one moderate candidate that will run.

Who are the usual suspects this time though? Of all of the potential candidates that @nctransplant listed, Sanders is the only national name. The others are newbies and/or nobodies on the national stage. They need to start getting that lined up, otherwise they are going to make the same mistake the republicans did. Let 300 people fight for the nomination and the loudest (and probably one of the worst) candidate wins. That's a good way to lose when you combine it with the fact that they have no real platform right now. 2020 isn't that far off.

They are preparing a platform. I listed a couple of their ideas. The Democratic Party is no longer the party of Kennedy and Clinton it's becoming completely right of right.

I would gladly welcome the addition of a single, all-purpose thread to track the Trump-Russia story and all its spin-offs. A "one thread to rule them all" kinda thing.

I don't keep up with these people closely enough to offer a name. I don't think the election season starts for at least another 14-18 months. I just believe that a moderate candidate COULD win. I'm also curious to see if the GOP decides to keep playing the Trump card (pun intended).

We also need a Clinton one as well in case @Nuk'EM Heels comes out of hiding and decides to post 15 Clinton threads on the same day.

Maybe "usual suspects" was the wrong term to use. It may not be their approach at all. Like I said, using the platform of "Trump sucks" isn't going to work. They could use that slogan and wheel-out one of the old guard and give it a whirl.

The president's lawyer being raided, and Manafort being charged with conspiracy against the US are hardly equivalent to "speeding tickets." But by all means feel free to continue to act deliberately obtuse.

They have assets that help protect them. They still have to use them properly. Donald Trump has demonstrated repeatedly that he is incapable of protecting himself from his own twitter account and stubby little baby fingers. So there is no reason to presume that the protections of the rich and powerful will keep him in the WH or out of prison if it comes to that. Most wealthy powerful people can make it through a 90 minute deposition without perjuring themselves. What are the odds that the dotard could do that?

Of course there are more low income people in prison. Only .1% of the population qualifies as "wealthy." Of course they are underrepresented in prisons. That doesn't say anything about how wealth and influence keep people out of prison.

Pretending the Russian collusion case is an "ongoing distraction" is just outright stupid. There's been more than enough evidence to substantiate this investigation, if you actually followed the case you would know that.

My point was and is, is that there aren't an real moderate candidates anymore. I don't know of a single one. I thought maybe Joe Manchin was, nope.
And I have no issues with what Trump has accomplished so far. He just might get a denuclearized NK as well. He's closer than anyone else has been.

With who as your candidate? Warren, Sanders, Booker, Harris, Cuomo, DiBlasio? All are laughable

I get that you hate his politics, but Bernie revolutionized campaign financing, and was packing arenas around the country. He's the most favorable, and trusted politician in all of Washington according to public polling data. Calling him a "laughable" candidate is just petty and ignorant.

Gavin Newsome should be on any and all Democratic short lists for 2020

Bernie's ideas are laughable. He packed arenas because he was promising free stuff to all you millennials. Hell Trump packed arenas as well. Bernie has gotten rich by being a career politician just like the rest of them. He's never held a real job in his life.

Oh, that's nuke and it's not even close. Of course he has to, because everyone on here is an uber liberal. He's the only voice of reason.
IDK, the libs put up something about Trump 2-3 times a day seems like. It's just obsession in a different direction.

Your lack of comprehension of his platform is laughable. Using tax revenues to provide services to citizens instead of lining the pockets of corporate lobbyists isn't about giving away "free stuff."

I have said, many times, that his flunkies could get popped. Trump isn't going down. I'm not being obtuse. None of this makes Trump look "good"... but, he ain't going to jail, dude.

Let's take it to its logical conclusion. He gets indicted, whatever. President Pence pardons him and off we go. Frankly, President Pence is just as unsettling as Trump. That's another debate for another day.

Well, I'm not pretending. I'm really saying that I believe it is a distraction. And, I also don't "follow the case" at all. Other than what occasionally pops-up here? No, I don't. I just know that it's unprecedented that a US President goes to prison, and I'm betting that never changes. Would you like to take me up on that bet?

ETA: Do you really believe that the Democrats (Hillary et al) hasn't buddied-up with these people? Surely you don't think that the Democrats- the same ones that made sure Sanders lost- are above cheating.

IDK, the libs put up something about Trump 2-3 times a day seems like. It's just obsession in a different direction.

You're right. We should have as many Clinton threads as Trump threads, especially right after Trump's lawyer gets raided by the feds. Because clearly anyone who cares about the president's lawyer being a criminal are "obsessed."

No. Wealth and power can be leveraged to keep you out of prison. Its never a given. Madoff had as much wealth and influence as anyone. Sometimes the case is just too open and shut for expensive lawyers to pull strings.

I didn't say he was going to prison. You said there was no chance of him being impeached. There definitely is. And if he is impeached, and indicted for treason, or conspiracy against the US then it would be political suicide for Pence to pardon him.

I know he wants to raise taxes. I prefer to pay for my own services. The hell with the govt paying for them.

You would get more back in benefits than the increase in taxes would have been. And it wouldn't have been very sizable to begin with.

I said that OCCASIONALLY they go to jail. Yes, they do. On rare occasions, even the very wealthy and powerful go too far. Example: "... but, when you've got a million three of undeclared dollars staring into a videotape camera, honey baby, it's hard to convince a jury you found it in a Taxi Cab." Right, I get that.

I do not believe the system is ready to indict, convict and incarcerate its President. But, I could be wrong. The reason I don't believe this will ultimately end in an indictment is because I know the Democrats are just as corrupt and capable of just as much underhanded shit.

You obviously follow this more than I even want to follow it. I will give you this much; Trump has proven that he can pull-off the most outrageous. So, let the arraignment proceedings begin.
