Food thread

Looks very tasty . . I do like a lightly battered onion ring.

Don't know that I've personally fried anything since college, when my roommate and I had a Fry Daddy Jr. Those fried mozzarella onion rings look damn good, though.

I haven't had fried anything in about 3-4 years but I think I might try those myself. If you look up the Tasty page on Facebook you'll find tons of those videos with easy recipes like that.

Anyone ever had Jersey Mike's meatball sub? I never have and thinking about giving it a try. Firehouse has the best, but it's a pain to get to the one near work during lunch.

In terms of these sandwich shops, Firehouse...hands down. I've had Jersey Mikes but it was really dry, and (to me) nothing ruins a meatball sub more than not having enough sauce on it. Could have just been an isolated experience on my part though.

FWIW - Subway's is the worst.

I feel like a J-Mike's meatball sub dressed out Mike's Way would be a lot of competing flavors.

But yes @Blue2010 in general, Firehouse is the best sub. I'm personally not a fan of meatball subs though. Give me the Hook and Ladder or Turkey Bacon Ranch Melt from Firehouse. MMmmm

I actually like Subway's meatball sub. It can't compete with the other sub shops (nothing of theirs can), but it's adequate. Put it on herbs and cheese bread and add onions and peppers, and it's good.

The bread is great, the sauce is pretty good, and definitely like the add-on options...my only problem with Subway is the meatball quality. I'm sure the other places aren't much better, but there's something about Subway's that just makes me feel like I'm eating something of less quality than a low-grade hotdog.

No way I'm getting Mike's Way with a meatball sub. Lettuce and marinara sauce doesn't cut it.

Yeah, but nobody goes to Subway for quality anyway. If I want a quality sandwich, Subway doesn't even cross my mind. It's the same as McDonald's, Taco Bell, etc...they go for convenience and consistency.

I'm not a big fan of meatball subs either. Too messy - at least for a work day. I don't want have to try so hard to not have something get on my shirt or fall in my lap. And see, the way a meatball sub is made, you either have to take a whole meatball in with every bite or you have to bite it in half. And when you bite it in half, you run the risk of that thing falling out and getting on you plus you possibly lose one of your meatballs. I don't like having to plan a strategy to eat.

Quiznos used to cut the meatballs in half...made it less messy. FWIW

The subways here are HORRIBLE. I've given them three chances and got stale bread every time as well as disinterested employees. Firehouse meatball sub is da bomb. Usually eat it when the weathers cold. Currently their corned beef brisket is my fav.

Wasn't that hamster meat though?

News to me...thankfully, I haven't even seen a Quiznos in about 10 years, much less ever eaten at one.

FWIW...everything is nasty. There's some stat out there about how many disintegrated insects are actually in cans of soda, ground up into your food, etc...just from getting caught in the food at the processing plant.

I love meatball subs - my dad used to always make meatball subs for me when I was younger for lunch during summers. Haven't had one in awhile, but when I do eat them they take me back. Maybe I should get one for lunch today so I can get that nostalgia fix and participate in that thread.

I absolutely hate sloppy Joe's though - I always thought of those as a bush league meatball sub.

Oh man, it's been so long since I've had a sloppy Joe that I completely forgot they even existed. I barely even remember what they taste like. It has to be at least 15 years since I've had one. My dad used to fix them during the week while Mom was working late when I was a little kid. I need to whip up some to take me back.

Manwich was AWESOME! Had to be the Bold / Thick sauce though. I personally hate runny sauces...drives my wife crazy b/c she is the complete opposite. This woman will add tap water to a jar of salsa if she thinks it is too think. Just makes my skin crawl thinking about that.

I'm so glad somebody could articulate this problem that has vexed me my entire life. Half serious here.

Generally agree it's hard to screw up a meatball sub, though. Some are better than others but even Subway isn't bad.

I find that most Subway employees hate their jobs. Actually, I think they just hate life. In their defense, if I worked there, I'd be miserable too.

"When Threads Collide"

Talk about nostalgia. Haven't had a Sloppy Joe in years, either, but I know what I'm having for dinner tonight!

Even though I hate canned biscuits, I do love donuts and really, really love ice cream.. I may have to make these for the Orange is the New Black party I'll be having this weekend! haha I love watching these videos. They make me believe I can actually cook well! :)

the whole page has a lot of these videos, might have to try some of them.
