curious what u guys think

I'm for full legalization, medicinal and recreational

And yes i do partake occasionally. Maybe on a sat night when we go out.

Those against i would be very interested in your rationale.

I'm for full legalization too, but I don't partake and haven't for years. Just don't enjoy that sort of buzz anymore, but to each their own.

And for those against, are you also against the sale of booze? If not, how do you reconcile.

I'm for legalization but it needs to be tightly controlled like liquor and cigarettes so that it's not (legally) available to young people. The American Medical Association has determined that "heavy cannabis use in adolescence causes persistent impairments in neurocognitive performance and IQ, and use is associated with increased rates of anxiety, mood and psychotic thought disorders." There also need to be laws preventing people from operating a motor vehicle, etc. while under the influence. Otherwise, I don't find a lot of the reasons against legalization very compelling.

I can now walk five blocks from my apartment and buy herb legally in a store from someone who can recommend something to suit my needs. I'm not the smoker I once was, so I prefer something with a lower THC content, and they have several options available. It's all so civilized that it seems crazy now that it was ever illegal.

It makes me uber-paranoid (always has). Someone suggested "you need to smoke Thai weed." Unfortunately, there wasn't an abundance of good Thai stick in rural Nash/Edgecombe Counties in the late 1980's. What I did smoke freaked-me-the-hell-out. However... I'd be for full legalization to-now. I've always been envious of people that enjoyed it. I don't drink either, so I'm never driving impaired or anything else (sleepy sometimes).

You could legalize all drugs as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to put drug dealers, smugglers out of business.

RH's point about operating motor vehicles is a good one. What kind of roadside test could be given to determine if someone is impaired.

As far as kids using it, it's much different than adults using it. Hell, it's much different for me to use than for another adult to use it. Everything is not equal. I've always said that. Like rap music, I feel perfectly comfortable listening to rap as I can see it for what it is - fictional entertainment. But young black kids from the projects don't see it as such. For them, it's a road map for life. Therefore it's a huge difference from me listening to it and a 16 year old black kid from the projects listening to it. Same thing with weed. I'm an accomplished working professional that is successfully raising well adjusted children and making a positive impact in my community. So I obviously am capable of using it and it not taking a negative toll on me or others around me. But a 16 year old hasn't proved the ability to do that. Hell, many 40 year olds haven't shown the ability to do that. Weed can make some incapable of holding a job, appropriately raising their kids and being a contributing member of society. You can make the same argument for alcohol and I would agree. But just because there's already one negative influence in life doesn't mean we should open up the floodgates.

So I guess I'm for legalization but I understand the arguments against.

I've never smoked in my life, never really saw the appeal, but I'm for full legalization. I agree that measures need to be put in place to make use as safe as possible, such as a legal age, driving restrictions, and things like that, but hey, if you want to use the stuff, go right ahead. I think legalization is definitely the way to go.

I started to call bullshit on your first line but then remembered your dad posts here, so I see what you did here.

I'm totally against it. & Never smoked in my life.

What blows my mind is that my then 15 y/o son was prescribed oxycontin, which is basically synthetic heroin, for a separated shoulder.

But my bro in law in constant pain from kidney probs and has no appetite due to the meds cant get pot prescribed to him.
