Forest Trail Academy is an online diploma factory for athletes with adjunct sports at Delaney Rudd's sports campus/school, sitting in NC but licensed in Florida. Sounds like a great preparation for entry to Duke.

The nation's No. 1 recruit Harry Giles has transferred from Oak Hill (VA) to Forest Trail Academy in Kernersville, per coach Tony Taylor

Don't know what is behind this but it sure smells extra strange... Looks like the kid is going to specialize in "NO SHOW CLASSES" even BEFORE attending duke? Does Dan kane know about this developement? LOL

Could you imagine the write up if this was a UNC recruit? Duke has been getting away with murder for years, but NCAA keeps on giving them free passes. Unbelievable.

Hey look they have covered up the Lance Thomas $70k jewelry scam for going on 6 years. ....they will get everyone to STFU and get away with this crap too

I bet he'll be the first kid from that "school" to ever get into Duke. If Duke wants him close to their facilities while he rehabs, could he not attend an actual school? I get schools push the boundaries to get kids eligible or whatever but the numbers of actual student athletes is quickly dropping in the major sports. This doesn't just go for Duke but for all schools. Although this just highlights that fact a little more since schools seem to be getting more and more creative.

Oh No! There is not one Duke fan or coach in favor of paper classes. Of course, they have several months to do a complete reversal before Giles arrives...AND THEY WILL...Pull out the popcorn....

Here is the latest on GilesGate:

Won't be playing for Forest Trail, but will take online home-school courses through school while rehabbing.
#HSXtra

Of course he will not be playing. On the other hand,I'm taking bets that he will take enough on-line courses to
miracously qualify to enroll at Duke in January so that they will pay for his medical rehab.

Wow. Just wow.
Of course, that brings to mind Carlos Boozer and others taking nothing but correspondence courses a some semesters AT dook.

GilesGate is in full swing. As someone said above, if he is not playing basketball, why can't he attend regular classes at a regular school? He has all the time in the world folks. Something is fishy!

Wish the kid a full recovery, but he is now the enemy. Two different issues. Hope the NCAA is all over this. Doubt it.

NCAA will not even look at it other than to ask k if everything is legit. Giles will be rehabbing full time and this lets him "graduate" easier

It seems that if it is being done and reported that it has to be on the up and up and would be deemed OK to do before it was decided to do....it makes sense...why stay at oak Hill hobbling around when he can take online classes and speed things up to get the rehab he needs for his future....north Carolina has an online system called north Carolina public virtual schools where middle schoolers and high schoolers can take online courses...FREE

So boogie you would be Ok if the classes like Giles is taking are independent study and require no classroom attendance. They merely require students to take online exams or turn in a paper at the end of the semester.... that is OK right???

All the spinning makes me dizzy. A former UNC player has a run in with the law and he is a thug while a dookie is showing poor judgment. Online courses at UNC are scandalous and simply a means to keep players eligible while online courses for a dook recruit are fine and reasonable.

The latest on Giles Gate.

Link on site said school has a graduate program. This is the schedule for the basketball team. There is nothing on the site about an "undergraduate" program. Perhaps Dan Kane can dig it out for us.

key asks a legit question, where is the dukie reply to his simple question?

"Can't Touch That" Boogie did you really say the above? You remind me of the typical politician that changes positions when the wind blows the other way...

So the biggest homer and #1 JCD'r thinks it is ok and we are surprised! He has never seen puke do anything wrong and he never will! AND he is one of the first to bash UNC on his home turf!

NC Virtual Schools is an entirely different thing and it is laughable to compare them, It is designed as a supplement for kids and is connected to their home school. It uses certified teachers and gives the student 60-90 minutes of work per class each day and expects kids to study on weekends. You can't just opt out of public schools and do rehab and it follows the same Course of Study as regular schools. In many ways, including pacing, it is more difficult than normal classes!

This is suspicious, but I will not judge the kid's motivation or character without more info!

OK, and back to key's very simple question? Where ya at now dukies?

Hey key, you may want to give your question its own thread, maybe a poll for dukies so they can select their answer rather than have to think of one?

Strange. There is a 40 page thread on the Carolina Way but not a sniff of Giles and his online course program over at the dook site.

Yeah it's really odd to be so engrossed in it, mainly posting to himself. Kind of creepy.

relax guys, ive been out.....be kind and don't call me names....lol...wassup steat!!!!!!.....to my point....i had a a sixth grade kid take high school biology all online for free....he now doesnt have to take bio when he gets to high school which accelerates him....current 8th grader taking Math II, all online......have a lot of students taking their foreign languages in middle school to free up that space when they get high school.....most high schools are now only BLOCK schedules and what us older guys took in a full calendar year, they are completing courses in just one semester...up to 8 in a school year....many and not the super smart are graduating a semester to a year early....look it up NCVPS....online doesnt mean sham

thats what i was referring to....just connecting the online aspect of it and that IT IS legit work, not just fluff.......i dont know anything about the place that he is going, but my comment was that it must be legit, on the up and up if it is going to allow him to finish up and rehab......my thing is if it is happening, then i would think that it has already been deemed ok to do....even dsjr appears to be doing the "same"??? to get into state...presumably to rehab and take advantage of facilities/medical.....my question if dsjr or giles chose unc would you guys have a problem with the same scenario...espcially if deemed to be perfectly legit?????

steat,,,what part was off...i clearly said if it is happening then it must be something that is ok.....im sure K knows of the intentions and if something is not right/suspect, i am sure he would be steered away from this course of action.....simply put if he has the green light, then it is more than likely ok

giles isnt a college student yet....but yes, online courses are at all unviersities and all designated as such with the requirement of the course clearly outlined....i took some, the exams were online.....you still had weekly assignments and papers due...discussion boards and participation through dialouge......have i ever taken a course where nothing was required of me but just a paper?...no....also some online courses are now requiring that the exams be taken at testing centers or locations where you are watched/proctored....your last sentence would make that course suspect...the no classroom part is obvious....if the paper is lengthy and meets requirements, not a paragraph of gibberish and actually graded by appropriate personnel, then yeah that course is what it is...are you connected giles as a high school student to what is going on currently with unc???

Your reply reminds me of the famous quote of a former President when he talked about the definition of the word "is". You are splitting hairs Boogie attempting to justify Giles Gate.

boogie please you are just hopelessly lost and digging your self deeper and deeper You and the rest of your doochie brethren KNOW that the courses that Giles may take are virtually the same types of things Carolina has been roasted, skewered,d and mocked by YOU and your brethren at doochie U and all the rest of the haters that populate the ABC crowd

If Giles goes ahead with these types if classes I look for the type of spin and total BS from the doochies that would make the Clintons blush.

Whatever, what am I mocking????...I'm sure some fan bases are riding this for all that its worth...I have resigned to waiting for all the facts and a decision.....not sure if you 2 actually read anything that I typed w/ any rationality...this rivalry thing is fun, but at some point sanity and common sense should prevail...for the last time, if it is being done, it should be okay....high school online courses and college/player eligibility (what unc is being accused of are TOTALLY different things....what Giles is doing is being told,...what unc supposedly did was discovered)....no one answered my what if dsjr and Giles selected unc would there any issue w/ you all...Imo this isn't the same as what unc is currently enduring

"Boogie, stop it because you are embarrassing yourself.

....have i ever taken a course where nothing was required of me but just a paper?...no...

My daughter, who won the most prestigious scholarship App State has to offer and who is no athlete, is currently taking a class that does not meet and only has a paper due at end of semester.

Just saying.

Boogie, I like you but you are spitting hairs and really burying yourself. Sometimes it is best to just admit the truth and stop trying to invent an explanation for Giles Gate. The online courses will be easy for Giles. If he gets stumped on a question all he needs to do is a Google search for the answer...I hate to say this, but anyone making less than a B on an online course needs to have their head examined.

So boogie, you are saying that YOU do NOT have a problem with no show classes?

Now can you advise us if that is the majority opinion with that dukie fan base, that they no longer have issue with no show classes?

I do have an additional question if you don't mind. Clearly Giles will not play again until he suits up in a duke uniform so his being at this "academy" is not a scholarship. That "academy" has to be pretty pricey, wondering who is paying for him to attend it? I notice, other than 90mins of SAT prep, his schedule there is pretty tight, leaving no room for school work even if he did attend a class, I find that interesting, don't you?
