Good going North Carolina

Stupid. Since Atlanta is taken, where the **** are they gonna put the ACCCG? The ACC's footprint is too spread-out to have a "central" location, but Charlotte was a pretty good compromise (within an 8-hour drive from the campuses of GT, UNC, Duke, NCSU, Wake, VT, UVA, Clemson, Louisville, FSU, Pitt. That's 11 of 14 schools. What other city are you going to find that's that "centrally" located, with a big enough stadium to support the game?
Is DC spoken for? They've had the ACCT there before, didn't know if the Redskins stadium would work.

South Carolina venues have never been able to host ACC events (especially Myrtle Beach hosting the ACC Baseball Tourney) because the ACC stated it will never allow a league tourney/championship in S.C. as long as the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia is flown over the state capital.

Been down for quite some time now.

Watch and see, it will be in Greenville at Bon Secour. It is huge and I suppose central to everyone else just as much as Charlotte and Atlanta is, at least. If you have never been to the downtown Greenville area, you will LOVE IT....it is a really nice place to have a tournament.

I considered D.C., but with Maryland out of the league, it doesn't really make sense. Sure, it's a fairly easy drive from the N.C., Va., schools + Clemson and Pittsburgh (so that's 8 by my count), but I don't know....it feels wrong having it in a state that doesn't have a league team. Plus, FedEx Field is too big for the ACCCG. It would never get filled.

I know. I was just explaining the concept.

I'm talking football darlin. Basketball can be held anywhere for all I care.

Well, it wouldn't be a "central" location by any means, but they probably could/will send it to Tampa or Jacksonville like it was held for the first 5 years.

Wait??? what???? they moved the football too????? crap! I did not know that one yet, sorry.... well that sucks for sure! I'll ask Dabo if we can borrow death valley LOL
I thought Death Valley too. May as well.

I seriously doubt the basketball tournament would be held somewhere with less than 16K seats.
It should be. Attendance will continue to dwindle for that stupidly formatted tournament. Who in this world can afford to take, what, 5 days off in a row to attend a tournament? Nah.

That was a disaster. It has to be in driving range (8 hours or less, IMO) from at least 65% of the league and/or from the major city hubs of ACC school alumni (Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, D.C., Richmond, New York).

With bowls right around the corner from the ACCCG, plus playoff destinations for hopefully one of the teams in said ACCCG, folks aren't going to travel to a destination city like Tampa for the ACCCG. It's gotta be driveable.

Oh, yeah, I wasn't saying it was the ideal situation by any means, just putting it out as a possibility. But I agree, it wouldn't be a great plan. Of course, it would probably be within driving distance for the Atlantic representative (either Clemson or FSU, but if Louisville upsets them, it would be a drive for them)

Yeah, unfortunately for Louisville, anything is a long drive for them. But they knew what they were signing up for when they entered the league.

In reference to FSU and Clemson, I hope the ACC takes in to consideration the "likely" participants when deciding where to host the game. None of this "any team could make it" bullsh*t. Though a couple of these have made it to the ACCCG, we all know that the following tier is very unlikely to ever make more than 1 ACCCG per decade:

  • Virginia
  • Duke
  • Wake Forest
  • NC State
  • Boston College
  • Syracuse

That's (6) of 14 schools you don't have to worry about placating geographically, plus really it's (7) because you never have to worry about Miami. Unless the game is held in Miami, any location will be a long way away from Miami..........plus none of their alumni live in Miami, anyway. The ACC would do well to put it in a spot that's as close as possible to Virginia Tech, UNC, FSU, GT, Clemson. That group, minus GT, travels the best of anyone in the league (State would travel well, but they'll never make it to a CG), and I've included GT because Atlanta is a hotbed of all schools' alums.

The ACC is at a real disadvantage when it comes to their ACCCG in football. Only a select few fanbases in the conference travel well. The ACC needs Clemson or FSU in the Atlantic every year to sell a lot of tickets. No one in the Coastal draws like FSU/Clemson except for VT.

No matter where it's at this year, it will be a cluster f**k. Three months isn't enough time to plan this thing. Hell, it will take them 3-4 weeks just to decide where to have it.
Can't be any more of a clusterf*** than it was last year. I waited in the security line for like 55 minutes to get into BoA Stadium. They had no crowd control. People easily could've been pressed to death as we were all one big herd and no one could really move.

I just got an alert on my ACC app.

Women's soccer
Football
M&W Swimming and diving
Women's basketball
M&W tennis
M&W golf
Baseball

I know what Dean Smith would want.

Just checked and I still don't care.

Maybe the ACC should move its corporate office as well.

They have pulled the basketball championship game from being played in Greensboro because of that stupid bathroom law. It's a good thing that Governor is a genius.
The "bathroom" law is so much bigger than what the NC Governor and Legislature framed it as, with the help of the media. Its not just a bathroom law. Its legalized discrimination. My home state of Georgia better not get too excited about picking up any of these events, however. As soon as we have another Governor, I imagine we'll go down the same path.

For the record, there has been (limited) acknowledgement here of the other, arguably more damaging parts of the law. Naturally, everyone is more obsessed with the part about wieners or lack thereof.

The NCAA:
Plays games in China
Plays games in Cuba
Won't play games in NC because of human rights violations

Fukkin hypocritical SJWs can go straight to hell.
Hypocritical is right. My opinion dovetails with the opinion of the psychiatrist in this article when it comes to Transgenders. IOW, it is a mental disorder and should be treated as such. To think that we actually encourage it and use surgery to physically change people's sex! Only in today's "anything goes", morally decadent society.

I couldn't give two craps about what Dean Smith would want.... he's dead.
Not trying to start anything, but I think that's kind of a weird thing to say. All the founding fathers are dead, but people seem to put an awful lot of value in what they believe they would have wanted. Not putting Dean on par with them, but just because the man is dead doesn't mean what he believed when he was alive is not valid. Otherwise, what's the point of learning about and from history? JMO, like I said, not trying to start anything, just an observation.

The Founding Fathers actually have a real impact on the future of this nation. Dean Smith, for all his upside, has zero impact on the future of the nation. To believe otherwise is delusional.

Is he dead? Really?

I guess I see your point. Once people are dead, whatever they stood for or valued or tried to convey to other people when they were alive is totally forgotten and completely irrelevant now.

I think he was an incredible role model. So, I do give a lot of credence to what he would have done.

Our society is more and more akin to the sick society of "The Capital" in the movie series "The Hunger Games"... Sick and weird.

I'm delusional then. Everyone has an impact on the future of the nation. EVERY... SINGLE... ONE OF US! We all contribute. And, to imply that Dean Smith's efforts to advance civil rights and social acceptance of blacks is pretty delusional. But, look who I'm talking to.
