Hubert Davis

Tonight's game is concerning they better play well. 3000 miles from home 3 hour time difference it's a recipe for a loss.
It's at home tonight. It really sets up for a good UNC performance. A Cal team that has to travel and a Cal team that refuses to play defense. This should be a game where things come together a bit for UNC. I'll take a 5 pt win, but it would be encouraging if they blow out a pretty bad Cal team.

Drake Powell vs Stojakavich should be a great challenge for Powell if they are matched up. I guess Jackson may get a stab at him too.

I agree. These wins over bottom half ACC teams in a terrible ACC doesn’t change anything for me. We still haven’t beaten anyone of note and have close wins recently against teams we should have blown out. We will find out very soon against Dook where we stand at this point in the season.
I don't think the seat has cooled. As mentioned above, we played a few not so good teams, 1 of which we beat by a bucket. We aren't setting the world on fire even against teams we have far superior talent to. Hubert is not a good coach. A few wins that we otherwise would never even mention as they'd usually be expected, certainly don't take the temperature down on that seat.

UCLA was a decent win..lol

My bad guys I'm not sure why I thought it was on the road, I don't have as bad of a feeling now.

the attendance tonight tells you everything you need to know. apathy has set in my friends
Fair weather. Other than the Louisville loss our worst loss is to 12th ranked Michigan State in OT on a neutral floor. Led at Kansas at the end and led against Florida at the end. Only 2 games we looked outclassed were Auburn and Bama and Auburn is the heavy title favorite. This has all been with our 5th year all american in a terrible slump and basically playing 4 against 5 every night with our terrible big men. If we make the tournament (which i think we will) I promise no one wants to see us in their bracket with the idea of RJ getting hot on top of Ian looking unguardable

This team has validated literally everyone's opinion about them. For those who think they're not any good, they fell behind by like 20 to every team they lost to this season. For those who think they can be good, they came back against a lot of those good teams.

And also, this picking and choosing is a bit misleading. Because you can easily say that 2 of their best 3 wins this season came against UCLA and Dayton. Dayton is an absolute disaster right now. They may have to win their conference tournament to get into the tournament. They lost to UMass. And UCLA is in freefall right now too.

Whether someone wants to see UNC or not in the tournament isn't my call and is certainly not relevant to where this program is right now. I also think it's fair to say that UNC being the dangerous 6-12 seeded team in the tournament is probably not where you want this program to be on a consistent basis. And that would make 2 of 3 Hubert led tournament teams for UNC.

The fact that an argument can be made about whether UNC will MAKE THE NCAA TOURNAMENT FIELD OR NOT says alllllll you need to know about the program. Keep in mind, we missed the tourney 2 years ago. We are a mediocre Division 1 program. It sucks.

Which elite program hasnt missed the tournament in the last 5 years besides Kansas and Gonzaga (if you even consider them elite) ? Dook finished 10th in the ACC 4 years ago and missed the tournament. Kentucky went 9-16 that year and has 1 tournament win since 2019. Villanova was the best program in the country 5 years ago and hasnt made the tournament in 3 years. Michigan State has double digit losses each of the last 4 years. This isnt the 90s where you can recruit 5 star players and develop them for 3 years, NIL and the portal basically has you starting from scratch every year and with that is going to come down years unless you catch lightning in a bottle.

You can spin it any way that you'd like. North Carolina basketball should not be struggling to make the NCAA tournament field of the 64 best teams. Ever.

Because??? Somehow UNC is supposed to be impervious to the exact same circumstances that made other blue bloods struggle? I know you hate having Hubert Davis as the coach, but no one, and no program is above struggling from time to time. College sports is experiencing unprecedented changes right now.

I can’t believe how many so easily accept mediocrity for a blueblood program that should never get stuck in mediocrity.

Take Bama football for example, half their base wants to fire a coach that missed the college football playoff by 1 game in his first season. They don’t care how good his record is, they don’t accept underperforming their expectations and he likely feels the heat going into season 2.

Well...half of their fans base is nucking futs. If you're that invested, and your identity is that attached to the outcome of sports teams made up of kids from 18-22 that you don't even know, personally... you've got huge problems. "They" don't accept it??? I guess they do. It happened, didn't it?

How many checks are you signing to pay anyone on the staff? You won't even cough up 8 bucks to pay for a membership on here.

Folks, this is not good, like Hubert, don't like Hubert doesn't matter, this is simply not good basketball. No matter what you may think of Hubert ( I am not talking about Hubert as a person, talking about him as head coach) his seat has been hot since the start of this season. Got a degree of reprieve playing top 5 teams close at the end but having to constantly come back from huge holes in first halves has had a lot of powerful people, let's say nicely "concerned". That seat was already hot because we did nothing in the portal to address our greatest area of need. Now that area of need is glowing like neon at night, glows brighter with every game we play and even the blind can feel the heat.

Simple fact, outside of last season, with Hubert as our head coach EVERY regular season has been really bad, even the first one that magically turned in to our playing in the natty game, we were very much about to miss the NCAAT until we beat duke twice. Even last season we played far to many ho-hum regular season games before going out in round 2.

Many seem to feel that Hubert will get next season to turn this around, last night may have dismissed that talk, the talk seems more appropriate to question if Hubert should even finish this season before stepping down, I am not a fan of in season coaching changes nor are the $$$ people. Mack's fate was clear after that JMU game, last night may well have been Hubert's JMU.

In a game where you look for development, meaning players getting better game by game, we see players actually regressing during the season. The question now becomes how can UNC make a big time splash hire to fix UNC basketball after making such a huge investment in UNC football? WE accepted poor results in football for many years, decades actually but we always had UNC basketball to give us joys. Do we now accept UNC basketball as a program lucky to even make the NCAAT, a program that has to fight non-power 4 programs for the cheap left over recruits?

I think it is clear, Hubert is just in over his head and this staff is just following the leader in to a ditch. This has now become the first season in way over half a century, closer to 3/4th of a century that I am ready for a UNC basketball season to be over. Calling the balls and strikes as I see them I honestly have no hope for this to get better under Hubert and the very sad part is there is talent enough to win on this team that is being held back by our coaching staff, not just such that rabid fans see that but recruits and their families see that. Don't agree, see our portal results for this season, see 2025 recruiting results, see our won/loss record.
Hubert isn’t going anywhere except where he is. This is not a Hubert thing; yes there are things he could do different. More NIL $ and players actually doing what they go over and over in practice during games = success in my book. My 2 cents….go heels

I agree with you 100% there are 65 teams that will make a tournament, the ACC is as weak as it's been ever and we are if not on the bubble we are one loss from it.

The ho hum way of thinking and the we lead Kansas and Florida late attitude as some kind of moral victory is struggle for me to grasp.
