Hubert Davis

I think Tyson would have been better if we had a true center & inside scoring ... but we don't

Hubert isn’t worth even half a flying F at this point. our execution on either end outside of a timeout should be eye opening. it’s pathetic. he should have never got the job. he’s Roy’s DEI hire experiment and it didn’t work. it’s the facts. call it what it is. cut our losses and move on. at this point, we’d be better suited pulling the chord now so recruits and possible portal guys know we are serious about stopping the bullshit immediately and will be a force with a reputable coach next season.

everybody clap it up for Hubert absolutely shitting the bed, and double clap for the dumb asses that put him in this position to fail.
You full of sh&t with this dei hire bullshit! It’s a flawed team but the Cade Tyson addition is the worst of all!! Can’t shoot! Can’t guard!! Turtle slow…just ass!! Wtf you talking about!

I understand that we're not top tier this year, and it's frustrating. And we've had more than one season where we were a lower seed in the tournament...even with DES as our coach. But dook IS top tier this year ... and that REALLY sucks! I should be more mature than that, but I guess I'm not, lol. Go Heels!

remind me again who’s responsible for the roster? H_____t.
Hubert is not getting it done and as such he should be on the hot seat…that has absolutely nothing to do with DEI!! But go ahead and hire a white coach, all white staff…and while u at it bring in alllll white players. Your problem solved.

Whether Hubert gets sacked this year, next year, or finally rights the ship, one thing I know is that next time we better stop with this "in the family" hiring crap. There are no more Roy Williams out there, so let's go after the cream of the crop no matter who ... well, unless they are associated with dook in any way. LOL

Carolina basketball used to be a bright spot for me and a source of pride. It is neither. It is quickly becoming a disappointment in my life that I have no more room for. I've been a Carolina basketball fan for over four decades and this is the most apathetic I have ever felt toward the school, the team and the sport of college basketball. Something has to change for me or I just won't be watching very much longer...

Good thing Hubert gave NIL money to him instead of finding a competent big.

Another poster mentioned Pat Kelsey. I do think he could be a big time up and coming coach. What he’s done with a depleted roster at Louisville by flipping the roster over the summer and now near the top of the conference is pretty impressive. And Kelsey was a good coach at the lower level too. Seems like a likeable dude as well.

Objective fans saw this as the likely scenario when the hire was made. And here we are. Mired in mediocrity and underperforming against teams with less talent because of a coaching deficiency. How many games have you felt like HD really out coached the opposing coach? For me it hasn’t been very often.

But the Carolina arrogance of hiring a Carolina guy and then hiring an all Carolina staff has led us here so nobody to blame but those from within the family that made this happen.

Does bubba have the guts to correct this at the end of the season?
PAY THE MAN.......BINGO!!!!

"Family" this, "Family" that. If Roy wanted to step down, fine, but have a legitimate search for a replacement. Hubert Davis came from sitting behind a desk at ESPN to an assistant spot, coaching the JV team, to being the head coach in just a few seasons. Made no sense then and here we are.

I could not agree more with the arrogance reference. Hit the nail on the head.

It is very painful to watch what this program has become.

Gary said if its not from the family it will no longer be Carolina Basketball though

If you willing to pay to play it would be great no matter who coaches .... its working out good in derham ... UK with 11 new players i don't think pope is a great coach but UK pays to play ..

HD will eventually be a very good head coach. the problem is that UNC (or any top tier ACC program) is not the place for a newbie with a learning curve. i like HD a lot and wish him great success somewhere, and maybe he'll return to carolina someday when he's ready.

Fair weather. Other than the Louisville loss our worst loss is to 12th ranked Michigan State in OT on a neutral floor. Led at Kansas at the end and led against Florida at the end. Only 2 games we looked outclassed were Auburn and Bama and Auburn is the heavy title favorite. This has all been with our 5th year all american in a terrible slump and basically playing 4 against 5 every night with our terrible big men. If we make the tournament (which i think we will) I promise no one wants to see us in their bracket with the idea of RJ getting hot on top of Ian looking unguardable
i WOULD FEEL BETTER IF WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THE UNC HAND GRENADE OR HORSE SHOE TEAMS...

(Sorry for the caps, had cap lock on and didn't feel like re-writting)

But in all fairness the entire landscape of college "amateur" athletics has changed. By the same token the way this team has been coached is certainly not traditional UNC bball.
Al, is it even traditional basketball as applied to any level or any program?

I'm sure we'd all love for there to be some Tar Heel alums at the top of the coaching game right now, but that is not the case. I mean, who is even out there with UNC ties: Wes, Stack, King. I wouldn't want any of these guys taking over if Hubert were sacked this year or next.

Not sure what ya trying to say D. My point being the personnel use .. ie overall coaching philosophy does not seem to me to be traditional UNC bball. Very limited use of pressure defense with a very athletic team and a fairly deep bench and a head scratching lack of use of what should have been a great pg in deference to an undersized legacy player that has an affinity for dribbling laterally and looking for his shot first. Record speaks for itself hoss. This is a team that was ranked #1 in the country a year ago preseason. We're not even in the top 50 now and will likely not even sniff an NCAAT bid. Is that Carolina bball? You tell me.

How can we say that? 4-5 years in and I don’t see that he’s learned anything or gotten better. And this is after and entire life of coaching or playing with some of the greatest basketball coaches and minds of all time at college and pro level

i don’t get the lack of press…this is a wild neglect for me.

it’s a form of “forty minutes of hell” for me until…

I highly doubt that Hubert would coach anywhere else. I don't think he'd want to coach anywhere else.

Clearly you’re a R word… it’s unfortunate! Just call him an inept coach and move forward.

I would bet he will be back in the broadcast booth when this debacle is over.
I would be surprised to see him back as a TV analyst in the future since he's not capable of analyzing his own team in the present .. but that's just my opinion.

I'm not out on Hubert. He is getting another year regardless in my opinion, but this years finish and next year is the finish line if he is the guy. I'm not a fan of the revolving door fan takes, all teams, not saying UNC only, can him when they struggle early, next up coach. Rinse and repeat.

I think he is a mixed bag at this point.

If Matt Doherty got a job after UNC, I don't see why Hubert can't. I say he gets a pity hire before a return to broadcasting. There's some coaches with worse track records that are still coaching after their first hiring. A few programs would be willing to take a chance.
