I'll be pulling for UVa.

Ever since Larranaga disrespected Roy a couple of years ago, I tend to root against them in conference. Except against Duke, of course.

We kinda need Miami to lose another one too though.
Good point.

UVa and Miami have identical records at the moment.

If UVa wins, they still have to play us, Clemson (@ Clemson) and Louisville. Tough schedule.

If Miami wins, they have to play Louisville, Notre Dame and Va Tech. Not easy, but easier than either our schedule or UVa's schedule.

If we are going to end up tied with one of those teams, I'd rather it be UVa.

But we'd own the tiebreaker vs UVA right? Unless we beat UVA and lose somewhere else along the way...

Miami by 8-12pts, Miami got nicked up against us or it would be a larger margin. Miami just got embarassed at our place and they will be pissed. Uva comes off a good win at home vs a weak NC State team that is crap on the road. Uva has the long flight to Miami, don't under estimate the long travel toll it takes on a team this time of the year. and especially one that relies so heavy on guard play. Not expecting Uva to shoot the ball well and could lose a half a step on defense.

This time of the year is kinda like the dog days for the season, harder to get up for games and especially if you have that long plane trip, you are already worn down a little by the season so that edge is not what it will be come post season.

Pretty sure we want UVA to win this one. Miami has an easy road left and we will have our destiny in our hands for the ACC reg season title since we get to play UVA. I prefer to have it in my hands.

Good points Dave and dadika. I'm torn on this one. Since I stopped pulling for dook when Krazywhiskey arrived, UVA has been my second favorite ACC team. And I like Bennett a lot. I generally don't pull for the U in anything unless they're playing dook or in postseason play. So, I'm torn. I do want to win the regular season.

Bennett is class. He coaches a not-so-pretty style of play, but it works and his players seem all-round pretty good guys.
If the Heels were to not win the regular season I'd prefer UVA to any other team

AND1 . .

Not only a very classy guy, but, one hell of a Coach . . UVA has one of the best.

This is one ugly game thus far (end of half)... exactly the kind of game we must never allow ourselves to be involved in. Best way for us to accomplish that is attack, attack, attack. We let dook gum up and ugly up the second half and it bit us, and they did that because even they realized they couldn't run with us. Imposing our style is the key vs teams like Miami and UVA.

I think this helps us out. Yes, the schedules and matchups are very important but the simple fact is that UVA is better than Miami (not tonight, not on Miami's home court) but anything to knock down my competitor helps me somewhere down the line. (just ask the politicians). I still admire UVA (for a number of reasons we won't go into here) but I think we are better off this way. Virginia will be a touch matchup for us. We had better be prepared.

I like Virginia and Bennett too. But if we want a 1 seed in the tourney, the teams ranked ahead of us need to lose.

Bennett is a class act as evidenced by him NOT ripping the officials a new one after getting hosed by dook. I can't stand his slow down, plodding style, but it works and his teams play hard and are tough. I actually like that Miami won because I think Louisville will beat them. Even if we lost to UVa we would be in a tie with Miami or Louisville going into the final week. I think there is a good shot that If we can beat UVa (no small task) we should have they ACC wrapped up, but a Miami loss would seal it up because I think UVa will beat Louisville in their final game. I don't think we will lose at dook either because this team seemed pretty ticked that they gave that last game away.

At this point the ONLY way to make sure we wrap up the regular season is to just win out. I think we can, but we can't play like we did against dook. Still, Miami losing to Louisville and Louisville losing to UVa would be fine, too!

Oh, and dook losing every game from this point on would be pretty cool, too.

As you said Littlejon, win out.
I prefer to not rely on other teams to do the work, the Heels have the opportunity in their hands and they can make it happen no matter whatever other team wins whatever other games.

I also agree, I want the Heels to win out and Dook to lose out.

Thanks Canes!!! But our 3 of our last 4 are on the road.... We are 4-4 on the road.... Honestly we will be lucky to win the reg season and keep a #1 seed. Go Heels!!!

One thing I've noticed in life ................................. the harder I work, the luckier I get.

WORK-WORK-WORK Tar Heels and win out!

Let us start Wed Night in Raleigh..... Commit totally to DEFENSE and start the rest of the season.

Exactly right Max. If we play defense with the intensity we displayed against UM, we're hard to beat, even when we're not shooting lights out. I always liked to approach a game like it might be the last game I ever play. If you do that, you'll always give 100%, you'll live in the moment, not look ahead to a team like UVA and overlook a spoiler team like NVSU. It would make their pathetic season to beat us.

How's that unbalanced ACC schedule working-out for you this year Wahoo fans?

UVA wanted that 3-peat bad this year, and Brogden is one hellava player, but they ran into a determined bunch of Canes who were embarrassed in Chapel Hill last saturday, and were obviously motivated to beat UVA last night....Big win for the Canes and the Tar Heels!

I just hope that Carolina doesn't get caught looking-ahead to saturday's matchup with the Cavaliers?...State would just love to crush our Regular season title hopes, so agree that our defense needs to play up to their potential tomorrow and saturday if we want to claim the ACC Regular season title?

I think it helps us in the short term, but not in the long term. I would have preferred a UVA win then a game vs. them on Saturday for the #1 seed and regular season title. Now we basically have to win out in order for us to win the regular season title outright.

I don't believe we have to win out. 3 outta 4 should be enough to win ACC. We have head to head against Miami. Everyone else is a full 2 games behind us with the exception of L'ville and Miami(which we have the tie breaker against.)

I am surprised it was that close, Brogden heated up but he was the only UVa player that shot well, combined with Miami missing key free throws late made this one closer than I expected. I wanted Miami to win this game and glad they did, Miami still has to go on a couple long road game trips, Uva is more a concern to me and we got to take them on at their place, that is gonna be a tough game. Our guards will have to play really well and we need to get the ball inside to Brice and Hicks and hopefully get their bigs in foul trouble. UVa is a guard dominated team with athletic wings and their key is controlling the pace and playing hawking defense, they help hard on the base line and that help comes really quick. They bring help on the pass of the ball and not on the catch, it forces your big man that receives the pass to make a quick decision and it forces your guards to make really good passing decisions. Expect the help, try to fool it with a pass fake, burn them when the help comes if they do not rotate to cover the open side. If you can drive thru Perantes or Brogden then you have really helped yourself but saying it is easier than doing it.

You really have to get a working margin on UVa to draw them in to more of a faster pace game and even then many times they still want the pace slower than we want it to be. You just can not get baited in to taking bad shots against them because they gang rebound, their guards rebound really well and they will try to bait you in to becoming a jump shot shooting team, they will let Theo take jumpers all day, even if he hits a couple.

Why would we

That would give us the number 1 seed in the tournament, but we would share the regular season title with Miami in this scenario.

Brogdon was MONEY on that step back jumper at the U. If he had some help they would have won. Got to be ready to guard the 3 and his step back j. But I want to MAUL those wuffies first! Roy, Jim and I have a terrible disdain for that crowd.

Of course that's predicated on UM winning out. They host UofL, then play ND and VT on the road. Look for UofL to play spoiler with only 4 games left in their season. They travel to Pitt/UM/UVA and host the Bees. I look for them to go out with a bang, not a whimper. They'll have a big say in who is the regular season champ.

Side note: Happy 77th to Lee Shaffer today!

I love the idea of Justin guarding him. His defense has been outstanding the past few games and it seems like he has accepted the challenge Roy has placed on him.

P.S. Brogdon is 23!?! I didn't turn 23 until a full year after I graduated college.
