Roy compared Francis to Ty in pushing the tempo (fast) and premiter defense.

Any clips?

Here you go! Manley and Frances went for a combined 48 points in this game. They eventually lost in the state championship game. Watch the move starting at the 1:50 mark. This kid is a 4-star now and he just completed his sophmore year.

Francis loves to push the ball and so did Ty, I think that's where the comparison comes from. Francis is plenty smart and plenty athletic. Let's be happy for a great commit and quit comparing him to past players. He's not Ty, nor Joel. He's Jeremiah Francis, and that's plenty good enough.

Just watch the videos I linked and you will get confirmation of that fact. He is the PG I most wanted to sign from the '19 class and will assure that we have great leadership at the point even if Jalek leaves after one year. Huge get for Roy and starts the '19 class off with a bang.

Roy compared him to Ty! Fastest I've seen at Carolina rim to rim. HIGH praise coming from Roy.
His handles, paired with great court vision, allow him to advance the ball down court very quickly. He has a nasty hesitation dribble and a very quick first step that allow him to get by defenders with ease and his strength and ability to finish strongly with either hand will earn him a lot of FT attempts. Plus, he's a very good defender already.

Blame Roy, he said it.
Yeah, but what does Coach know?

Pushing the ball and attacking the rim and not hesitating, that is what Roy was talking about, that is a trait Roy speaks of with 7th as well. Frances wants to pull the ball out on a made basket and get it down to our offensive end and attack as fast as he can. Off either a defensive rebound or a made basket, TY was going in to attack mode, he was pushing it hard up court with the dribble. Kendal did it with the pass, Ty with the dribble, Frances and 7th are more a combination of the 2 because neither are a blur with the dribble like Ty was, who is, right?

This Frances kid has a strong body, Ty did as well but Frances has better length. You develop and use one attribute to make up for a lacking in another area. Kendal was not quick nor what you would call speedy with the dribble but he developed the hesitation dribble and fantastic passing to compensate for a lack of quickness and he used his size advantage. Joel, while solid quicks is not Ty, Joel is a bit smallish and to compensate uses good strength and a developed jump shot along with strong level of confidence. Frances will develop his own compensating factors that allow his game to flourish at our level and he already has some fine tools to work with.

Huge pickup! Very happy about this.

How is his shot? I haven't heard much about it, although his highlight videos show some potential. That is obviously a big part of Berry's offensive game, and I think also helps him to penetrate because guys can't give him any space.

...except speed wasn't what he was talking about.
I am not trying to have a pissing match with you as I respect you... Your connections usually mirror mine. My guy said Roy said Francis is fast... Not just pushing the pace he said the guy is fast and strong like ty Lawson. Said Lawson was a better comparison than berry because berry isn't as fast as Francis. Again I am not trying to argue but I trust my source and you should trust yours

I trust my eyes and they're never wrong, and this one is more than obvious. Even just watching his highlight vids he's not even really outrunning HS kids --- he's out-muscling and out-maneuvering them.

BTW: Here's a quote for you from a very good analyst from another site I happened to see this morning: "he's rarely the fastest guy on the court, but he knows how to push tempo". It's about pushing tempo as opposed to pure foot speed. Fans should just put any misconceptions to rest about that.

And I'll say it straight up: Put Berry and Francis on the baseline with or without the ball and I'll put every $ in my pocket on JB and laugh when I double my money...

His shot needs the most work. He's very adept at short/mid turn-arounds and pull-ups but his mechanics are all over the place on longer shots. However, that s something that can be greatly improved in college.

Damn, Gary. You've got one hell of a man crush on Joel. You get very defensive when anybody says anything remotely negative about him or even compares someone to him.

Well I can't really blame him Joel s one of the most beloved tar heel pg's ever so I understand that. It's all good we are all fans here

Oh, I agree. But it's not an insult to Joel to compare Jeremiah to him. I think they are similar in many respects. Both are scoring point guards and very strong physically. And both like to get after it defensively. I love Joel but I certainly don't think he's beyond compare.

That being said, Jeremiah isn't Ty nor is he Joel. He is Jeremiah, and I think that will be plenty good enough to create his own legacy.

This young man can play !! Welcome aboard! He's got some mean dog in him ! He'll study the toughest player in country on film (JB) and always have JB's ear in the future! Young man's a player! Welcome to The Hill, Mr Francis!! Woooooooooo!! Gators bouncin!!

Not defensive whatsoever. Just stating facts. And everything I've posted ITT is simply cold hard fact. Don't know why that's even worth a comment.

I luv this kid!

I really do!!

But when I look at his hips, I could see him growing into a two-guard.

I think he will get bigger, broader, and heavier.

Honestly, what say you?

I watched his videos and I do believe he could play there and his NBA future might be at two-guard.

Don't get me wrong. He is darn good.

You could well be right glov but I would really love for us to have a Marcus Smart like PG that smaller PGs just can not handle strength wise. But yeah, he could develop in to more of a 2 guard in time. Imagine a team with this kid, White and Black along with upper classmen 7th, BRob, Platek, and maybe even Jaek? THat would be some serious tempo pushing!

I think a Marcus Smart type is the type player he'll be, just way too strong for most other guards to defend. I hope he makes FT's because he's going to go to the line a lot.

I was actually thinking a different Marcus. Some strong similarities to Marcus Thornton that played at LSU. I like to broaden the spectrum of players outside of just UNC players when comparing guys. Much like how many tried to compare Jalek to former UNC guards. But when I see him I see a lot of a young Gilbert Arenas.

Well, most 1s can play the 2, but more rarely vice versa. That being said, he has a PG mentality which is one of the biggest things I like about him. Don't think I would be necessarily projecting that move with Francis.

Been telling y'all that from day 1. :)
...and I told y'all before day-1 (before he even officially committed) that JB was the next great Carolina PG... and continued to do so when over half this board doubted (thanks to Roy's unfortunate ill-fated personnel decisions of 2014-15. So, here's the dealio, Mikey. I was right then and I'm right now.
