Serious NIL question.... I have seen/read a lot about this whole NIL stuff and the Cash being thrown around by collectives and companies vying to have a player sponsor their merchandise. My question is say a guy like Mando...anyone have an idea what kind of cash he is making or could make if he returns. This whole NIL is ripe for massive corruption and payoffs from a KY or any school that wants a player bad enough and will use a collective to reel him in. I am not trying to pry just get an idea of what kinds of deals and how much these players can expect to make.

I think it's big enough to keep some kids in college longer than they would have otherwise. Saw where a high school kid was making 100k. Didn't click on the article, but ultimately this is the new way

It is more than most peeps making working for an entire year and is enough to swing those who are teetering on the fence! It looks like we might benefit from it next year when some of our peeps return!

Would be one helluva irony, eh? All these years dook and uk illegally paying players to stop in for a year, and now we can legally pay them to stay... ;)

The NIL will return College basketball to the peak of its 80's and 90's glory in my opinion. Super teams constructed of 3-5 year players will be the norm with the money they can earn while being BMOC.
Oh to be that age and talented.😎

NIL is better numbers than kids were being paid by "some" programs under the table, it is numbers that make it a harder by far decision to leave for the NBA if you are not a 1st rounder with a guaranteed contract. Without NIL, very doubtful Bacot would be back for next season. It has already been shared publicly that there are some footballers in college making in excess of a million.

Check out Andrew's THI pod cast discussing Bacot coming back o9n Youtube, he shares some numbers.

I think I heard the Colgate transfer was asking/getting $150,000. Heard at least one of the Duke boys was getting a half million, FWIW.

Being totally honest, I still think the NCAA botched the whole thing (surprise, surprise) and the Wild West situation that it's already devolved into is something that leaves a bad taste in my mouth toward college sports and, let's face it, is gonna hafta be reined in sooner or later.

With that said... we're seeing an unintended consequence that is providing a tad bit of justice vis-a-vis the serial cheaters and/or OAD factories, in that excellent players who might be considered marginal NBA prospects (like Mando) don't have to leave early and throw their fate to the free-agent / G-League winds or head overseas without getting their degree. In other words, it makes it easier for programs like UNC to "get old and stay old", which as you alluded to, was the team-building goal back in the heyday.

Unintended results, that seem to benefit the good guys.😊
I was not a fan of NIL, but is starting to grow on me.😀

I wonder how many college athletes making money from NIL have a clue what tax day means. I hope they have been aware of such matters, been educated on careful planning, and acted accordingly. It could be a nasty awakening for a few just being introduced to the laws.

Probably the same amount of any 18-22 year old people who get money.

Normal 18-20 yr olds don’t make enough to pay any taxes. From the figures I hear thrown about with some college athletes deals they are most likely going to be very surprised unless they have taken a few finance courses.

I could be wrong, but I think all of the NIL have to go through sanctioned by the NCAA buisness firms/accountants who deal with that?

Taking a quick look from what I saw it is the employer that have to be sanctioned, not accountant firms. Each state has different laws on the schools either obligation or their choice to give the tax consultation programs?
