Knox visiting Dook today. Why??

I think it's because he's an uncommitted Top 5 recruit who has Dook as one of his potential destinations on his list.

Captain Obvious aside, I imagine he's wrapping everything up, which is completely in his right. Getting from FL to NC is more than likely a pain. He also visited FSU after his OV to us as well.

On a sidenote, his Twitter has been non-stop UNC.

Maybe he is a man of honor and wants to tell the dark lord in person that he will not go down the rat hole!
That would be nice. Look, We've done all we could have humanly done to sign Knox. Roy has recruited him very hard, the team stepped up and won a big game to cross the "T" on a regular season championship, a game which Knox attended. We can't do any more.

So if Knox chooses another college, it's simply because he thinks another school is better suited to his needs.

I haven't run across a single soul that prefers 3/4* peeps to 5* in all my years of message boards, but maybe there was supposed to be a wink after that post. In any case, there was some wisdom in the post since Knox would indeed help the Tar Heels!

Knox will change any team he chooses and I will watch his college career no matter where he goes. I do hope he becomes a Tar Heel though!

Think its as simple as, hes visited both schools every time hes been in town.. if hes leaning hard at unc and doesnt visit dook while hes here like he has every other time, it looks awfully suspicious and raises eyebrows. So, it could be for keeping up appearances, or he wants to just make sure hes covering all his bases. I wouldnt read anything negative into it.

I hope the guys that prefer 3 and 4 stars will be ok if we land this 5 star. Could help the team a lot.
Perhaps you can cite an instance where a UNC fan said they didn't want any 5 star recruits to sign with UNC. Or that they prefer 3 and 4 star recruits to 5 star recruits. Because I've missed it if there was one.

Now I myself have posted that I don't want to see UNC go the OADU route that UK and dook have taken, with OAD's coming and going annually. There are many that happen to agree with me. But that's a completely different thing from saying we "don't want 5 star recruits" or that we "prefer 3 and 4 star recruits". And I'm sure you know that.

There certainly have been poasters who have said they prefer 3 and 4 stars over 5 stars. I'm not going to go through the trouble of mining old threads for the exact references, so if you want to disagree, feel free.

Maybe a better example than using the stars would be people saying they prefer 3 and 4 year players over OADs, and at least as of now, Knox projects to be a OAD. So I hope that the people who prefer 3 and 4 year projects are ok getting some high end talent that can contribute right away.

These (IMO, stupid) comments generally come either after we whiff on a top recruit, or after we sign a 3 star that people are trying to pump up. So maybe it's more sour grapes than actual beliefs - but they've been mentioned nonetheless.

Roy gave him a Thank You card to give to Grayson for all of those missed FT's. :D

OHH, you were talking about someone preferring a specific 3/4* over a specific 5*. This indeed has been said, and I don't know what is wrong with the idea.

I would rather have Huffman than Jeter so here is another example!

The idea that anyone wants UNC to only recruit 3/4* and never 5* peeps is patently ridiculous and I've never seen it!

Almost every UNC fan wants Knox at UNC because he is extremely skilled!

This is so true and well said arch.

Hey Roseheel quoted me. Yes, Stokes who was a 4 star, committed to bball from football, promptly lost like 40 lbs, and had a good frane with good athleticism. Sign me up.

Knox family has played this hush-hush. You think they would come for that game and not see both campuses? Long ways to mid April.

All i know is that i am damn proud of roy and the staff for orchestrating the most all in recruiting environment u could ever hope for last night. That was absolutely unc bball at its best. From the game to the atmosphere to rolling out the GOAT, it was an incredible scene. If that doesnt sell knox then we've got nothing for him.

Just basically agreeing with everyone else, but Roy went to the ends of the earth on this one. We were one of the first on Knox (if not, THE first), and kept his diligence, despite the hundreds of claims he was Dook bound. And it might actually pay off this time.

It's long overdue for Roy and co. IMO.

It's the guys on here saying they don't want a OAD recruit. Rather a recruit that's going to stay 3 and 4 years.

WAY overdue, man.

Many, including me, have said they prefer 3-4 year players to OAD but derned if I can recall ANYBODY saying they prefer 3-4 star players over 5 star players. You'll have to show me that one.

Examples- Give me a Marcus-Johnson-Zeller-Hansbrough-Hicks-Meeks-JJ over a OAD all day long.

And yet, we need Knox to kill the perception that we are not a good destination for future NBA players. If he comes here, Roy should do his best to showcase him as much as possible.

So yes, I love the Hansbrough's, Brice Johnson's, Tyler Zeller's, and Marcus Paige's, but also need top 10 talent again on a consistent basis if we are to keep up.

Actually, no we don't.

Uh, yeah we do. I'm sick of this narrative some of you are trying to put on like we purposefully spurn or don't want OAD talent. It's a load of shit, because if we hauled in classes like Kentucky does every year, we wouldn't be complaining.

You're all just trying to rationalize or play down our current recruiting woes. Newsflash: top talent ensures success. And while I don't think becoming like Calipari is necessary, we must encourage more NBA type talent to come here and get our brand going again. We can't live off past reputation forever and I want the recruiting classes we're used to.

"..keep up" ??? LOL. 8 regular season titles out of 14 seasons isn't good enough? ... 2 national titles .... 4 Final Fours. I think we're doing just fine.

Okay Forrest. You stated we need top 10 talent to "keep up". That's bs. Nobody said anything about intentionally spurning OAD talent. I think most everybody would welcome some OAD but we do not NEED top 10 talent to remain relevant. Have we been getting top 10 talent "consistently"? Do we have anybody that was "top 10" in their class? Are we relevant? Were we last year? You have nothing to base your assertions on except your opinion. Frankly that means diddly to me.

You are correct that we haven't seen a true drop yet. Although I think the seasons from 2012-13 up to 2014-15 were definitely not our best.

My point is, if we don't sign better than 3 star players, than we are in some trouble. That's a big reason why getting Knox is so important. Our roster is a lot more formidable next year with him there. And if he's good enough to go to the NBA after one year, I say all the more power to him.

Hansbrough and Zeller were top 10 recruits...

Oh I'm fine with the occasional super star, we've had our share and, for the most part, they've been valuable. I just think Roy has done exceptionally well (and will continue to) developing 2 to 4 year players - and the win rate/post season success speaks for itself. dook has been loaded with OAD's and has also won natty's ... and also bombed out to Mercer and Lehigh.

And how were we between 2012-13 and 14-15 hm? Maybe a Julius Randle, Andrew Wiggins, or Brandon Ingram would have made us that much better?

I'm not saying I want the program to revolve around OADs. But you know why our 2009 and 2012 teams were so damn good? Those had future pros on the roster. And when you have pros you can claim as your own in the NBA, it can only help you get more future pros.

Exactly. And I loved that they stuck around. But at the moment, our lack of notables in the NBA is hurting us. JMM going from potential lottery pick to undrafted didn't help either.

Barnes was a top 10 pick, is making the max and averaging 20 pts a game. I think he will start helping soon. I agree with you that Knox is huge, it just isnt the end all be all you are saying. We are primed to have a very good 2018 class.

I do feel relatively good about 18. Jairus is high on us, I don't count on Zion but I take what Goodman says with a grain of salt. I would like a solid big guy for 18 as well other than Hamilton if we get him.
