Luke Maye a wasted scholarship, better check again

Ya know, the funny thing is, I think most, maybe more than most, felt that this soph class was a bust (speaking when they came in as freshmen). Oh we tried to put as good a spin on it as we could but truth, we most all figured that class just was never really gonna help us a lot. Little did we know what we got was 2 kids that were going to both be over achievers considering what was expected from them. Kinda cool actually !
I never ever thought that, just for the record:cool:

luke was not highly recruited, so fans who underestimated his potential were not alone. what's the big deal anyway with all the gloating and boasting? why can't we just be happy that one of our unheralded recruits is surprisingly productive?

It's not gloating and boasting, it's telling fans to look beyond the number of stars beside someone's name before they write them off as a "wasted scholarship". They are indicative of raw talent, but can't measure heart or work ethic.

Never felt Maye was a wasted scholarship, but i definitely didn't buy into him taking the leap he did from Frosh to Soph. I imagined we'd be lucky to see this Maye by his Senior Season. Hope he can keep pushing his ceiling.

Definitely enjoying this helping of crow. Still not going for those Hansbrough comparisons though lol.

You must have missed a LOT of what went on putting him down. Clint told everybody way back how good this kid was going to be.

Little crow never hurt anybody.

I would rather be pleasantly surprised by a kid exceeding what I thought he would be than disappointed a kid was not able to live up to over hyping.

I think fans collectively like to go to extremes, either the kid is the next star or he is a bust, folks just don't seem to go to that middle ground much, but it is the middle ground where we actually see play out most often and most accurately.

That is why we have this thread actually, because in the past someone went to one extreme and someone else felt the need to go to the other extreme so it now becomes a back & forth. But the truth is the kid is not really a star nor a bust, he is a darn fine role player that brings all he has to bring and has some games where he produces in a way that really helps us and in other games is not as big a factor in the box score. Good teams need kids like this and we have several of them and we are fortunate that we do.

In politics, you have the lunatic fringe on the left and the lunatic fringe on the right, but most Americans fall somewhere in the middle. That applies to message boards as well.

I'm thrilled to see Luke playing so well, he has become an integral part of our rotation. I'm sure every poster on this board feels the same way. I think you'd have to say that he's our most improved player. And that's a very good thing for UNC and it's fans.

It certainly doesn't. We've all dined on corvine cuisine at some point in our life. I have many times. Tastes like chicken.

Really see no need for threads like this now. Even Stevie Wonder can see Luke belongs.

He did, and the stuff I posted to the same effect came right from guys who were actually playing with him, but alas, that didn't satiate the star-gazers.

And reality check-in: Luke could very well be our starting 4-man next season --- and that could be true even if Knox comes and takes over the 3 spot --- and if so, there ain't nuthin' wrong with that.

Good golly Miss Molly, now you've done it, and just when this thread was starting to settle down.

JB, Felton, Knox, Maye, and TB would be a formidable mix....add in a pinch of TP and a splash of KW and now you have an award winning souffle! The side items: 7th, BRob, Huffman, Manley, and Platek sound like a 7 course meal to die for!

This is why UNC fans are so hungry! (Moo fans are just thirsty!)

Maye is the type of player you need that will continue to improve and will be in the program for four years. He is good enough to start at some ACC schools. I've enjoyed watching his improvement and he has taken advantage of his playing time.

I'd rather see Theo start in place of Luke. We need our best player to come off the bench. A bench of Luke/Brandon/7th/Kenny/Huffman would be very nice.

Luke sees what you did there.
