Will anyone be there besides the teams?? It could have been worse , a terrible dook team almost made the championship. A new low for this format.

Not sure what the ACC can do other than re-alligning to make more sense geographically. Conference tournaments is where you really see the downside of massive conference expansion that didn't make geographical sense. Doesn't matter how you slice it, you're just NOT going to get good turnout for an ACC basketball tournament anymore, much less an ACC baseball tournament when you've got an event that takes place over multiple days and involves teams from all over the Eastern seaboard.

Doesn't matter where you hold the event either. Say it was held in Virginia....do you think lots of FSU, GT, and Miami fans are going to show up? If it's held in Florida, think lots of NC school fans and UVA and VT fans will show up? Plus, it's over multiple days. Think people are really going to pay for 3-5 nights in a hotel? Highly doubtful. There's real no solution and it's a shame. You will see the same in basketball, just watch.

As for this year's tournament, I'm glad Georgia Tech won. It would've sucked to have Maryland -- a traditionally HORRIBLE baseball school -- win it in their last year in the conference. Plus, it's good to see GT get back towards the top of the ACC in baseball, they've got good baseball history.

Didn't we have record crowds at last year's baseball tournament? I think if you have it in Durham and both UNC and Moo are among the 8, with Clemson and FSU also there, the odds are good you'll have nice crowds. Miami doesn't have a large traveling fan base, but Miami is a TV draw. GT will send more fans to Durham than Miami. UVA and VT both send a decent # to Durham.

Notre Dame eventually will have a sizable baseball following.

Yes, the largest single-game crowd when UNC and NC State played on a Saturday night. Couldn't ask for a better alignment of the stars from an attendance perspective. Not sure about the total attendance records though.

Most ACC fan bases don't travel well for baseball. There might be an uptick if a team's season is going well, but geography is the most important factor to attendance in my fact-less opinion. Like THN said, who's going to pay for 3-5 nights in a hotel? Who is going to miss a week of work to see a conference baseball tournament? Very few people. The folks who show up are most likely sleeping in their own beds each night.

If you want good attendance, the tournament site is going to have to be near large alumni bases for the member schools. That means the Triangle or Triad as we've seen in recent years, and maybe some day Atlanta or Charlotte. Florida would be a disaster...remember the football championship games? Ugh. I can't imagine anything north of NC would work either with the remote possibility of DC.

It would be interesting to see a map of the each schools' fans based on density. Actually, fans might be hard to determine but alumni could be an realistically achievable data point.
