Roy didn't sound very optimistic about Luke's ankle being ready this coming week. If not it's gonna be a rough 3-day stretch in the tourney. Luke being out majorly screws with the rotation, and without Theo to slide to the 4 the "small" lineup just doesn't function as it should. Here's hoping Luke can get back up and running by Tuesday or Wednesday when the competition is strongest.

Justin will slide into the 4 spot . . Kenny will see more minutes at the 3, Brandon will see more time on the court . . Nate's minutes will go up as well as Seventh's.
Aaron Rohlman may get 6-8, or even 10 minutes more than the 2 or 3 he has seen should foul trouble be a problem.

We're gonna miss Luke . . no 2 ways about it.

I thought I read a definitive statement from Roy saying that Luke will definitely NOT play in Hawaii.

I wonder if Shea Rush can help some?

UNC should defeat Chaminade easily before last 10 minutes second half..Okie St(best players 5-10 and 6-1 guards) and UCONN(lost 2 home games to Wagner and Northeastrn)..U could expect a competitive game there from either...still w/o Maye, a double digit victory...I dont think he will be greatly missed provided Hicks and Meeks are poised,uninjured...the third night, who knows but well rested..young men who play basketball daily!!!..fatigue should not be problem

Yeah Ill take our starting 5 over anyone elses in this tournament, even without Theo and Maye. If we can continue to play defense the way we have been theres no reason we cant take the whole thing. I know theres some good teams, I want to play oregon.

I'd be comfortable with Luke sitting out at least vs Hawaii and Chaminade (no need for him in those two) It'll be harder in the following two games.

The danger of getting smaller guys to cover is exposing them to larger, stronger athletes in the paint.
I like Billy's idea of getting Aaron Rohlman to cover for some minutes, essentially protecting the wings from having to play too much down low.

Also super important for Kennedy, Isaiah and Tony to step up - it was good for Justin to drag down so many boards against Long Beach, but the bigs are gonna have to play bigger.

Aaron Rohlman? Against teams that we will play in Maui? wth is going on in here. We are still deep enough where we dont need to play walkons. Good lord.

There are enough bodies, but last time I looked they were rail thin and wing players. It might be unfair on Aaron, but I'd prefer to see him get banged up a bit rather than Justin.

Lets just look at this for example... Roy is heading into an under 8 time out and wants to give one of the 3 bigs a rest. Isn't it better to put Rohlman in there for 45 sec rather than Justin or Kenny or Brandon?

By using the walk-ons around time-outs he can effectively give one of the legit front court guys a good 3-4min rest with minimal damage.

no excuses about size...didnt Butler play in back to back FFs...please!..we have seen over and over in sports, the smaller dog can beat the big dog...if he talk of title dreams-play with a chip on the shoulder-take no prisoners, no excuses, play ball!!!

He said it wasn't definitive but pretty close to it.

This is worse for Luke than it is for the team. Luke needs time in the non conference to get some good minutes and confidence. Not like he played a great deal last year, kid needs as many reps as possible.

Sucks and I don't wanna see Luke rushed back. The Hawaii game and the 1st game of the Maui will be an absolutely no play scenario. The 2nd round game (likely Oklahoma State) could be a test without a legit 4th low post option. Maybe we see Roy using more 1-3-1 or 3-2 to save the legs and make the Cowboys beat the Heels over the top.

I posted that Rohlman may get some extra minutes should there be foul trouble, he's only played 6 minutes in 3 games.

Who would you insert into the line-up should the fouls start to add up on Hicks and Jackson . . ?

Roy has been using a straight position player alteration for the 1st 3 games . .

Meeks - Bradley

Hicks - Maye

Jackson - Robinson

Britt - Williams . . or . . Williams - Britt depending on who starts

Berry - Woods

Rohlman has played 6 minutes thus far this season, Rush has played 5, Coker has played 5, Stilman White 7.

You be the Coach and tell me who are you going to play at PF if foul trouble arises . . ? The only alternative is playing Meeks and Bradley together . . to my knowledge, Roy has not played those 2 together at the same time yet this season.

Well, should that scenario arise Id expect roy to go small or yes play Meeks and Bradley together before putting a walk-on in for any meaningful minutes. I dont really even see Rohlman being an option unless 4 of our guys get the flu, but hey you never know I guess.

Who is playing in your small line-up . . ? Jus' curious . .

Well there's obviously a number of combinations that I would go to if forced to play small before I looked to a walk on to compete Against high level competition, and imo all of them would be preferable to putting a walk on on the court for any meaningful minutes.

I don't really feel like typing all of the lineups out because A) it's obvious and tedious and B) this is most likely a total non issue. Some are acting like Luke maye not being Available is some huge blow to this team- it just isn't in my view.

Should add that I am in no way dispariging Luke- I like what he brings to the team and if he were to be out for an extended period especially without Theo then I agree it can hurt us. I just feel like with us playing chaminade first, in this instance it isnt a huge blow.

I mean 45 seconds won't do much but if that's what's being advocated then sure why not. I doubt it happens, though. I mean we play chaminade first so we are looking at two competitive games on Tuesday then wednesday. I have faith that Meeks-hicks-Bradley can go out and play all the minutes without rohlman needing to spell them. Like I said I still think we are versatile enough where not having maye available for two games isn't a huge deal.

Billy, if I were going small I would go with Kenny/BRob at the wing with maybe Nate/Kenny at the 2. I would pair that with Hicks and Meeks/Tony. Note, name listed first (before the /) is my preferred for the small ball look at least until we get Luke back.

BRob, I think before the season many felt that BRob was going to help us more as 3rd team wing and maybe 3rd 2 guard. At least for me that took a bit of a hit in the first couple games just because he is so slightly built but that kid shows me something, it is kinda what I noticed in Theo as a freshman, how he just sticks his nose in to everything, no fear, no looking over his shoulder to see if it was OK. He has also shown a really nice passing ability that I honestly did not expect to see, can't wait to see that kid 20lbs from now!

BRob is growing right before our eyes! He will soon be a real problem and I expect he will be the difference in multiple games THIS year!

By next year, he and all of our freshmen could become upper level starters in the ACC! (depending on NBA defections next year of course)
