Miami at UNC game thread on Saturday 1 March 2025

Carolina did what they had to do today to win at home.
That isn't true. UNC needed to win by a substantial margin to avoid dropping in the NET. It appears they did not win by enough.

After UNC's last game, UNC dropped 1 spot in the NET and dropped 1 spot in Lunardi's bracketology. After today they may drop much further.

You gripe and moan and criticize throughout the ENTIRE GAME THREAD. Not a single positive statement.
Eeyore!

If we did what we needed to do, UNC wouldn't have had 4 starters (and part time starter Trimble) on the floor to end the game.

The staff knows the margin of victory mattered in this game. That's why Jackson got benched for playing bad in the first half. That's why we only went 8 deep in the second half. That's why we closed the game with the lineup we did.

I don't like you, but this comment is EXACTLY RIGHT

I gave Lubin credit for his scoring. I gave Trimble credit for his 3s.

But I'm not going to stop accurately calling the game because you need a safe space.

I want my Heels in the NCAA tournament. Miami has 6 wins and is a quad 4 opponent. We needed to win this home game by a huge margin just to keep our NET ranking from dropping. That's reality. If you don't want to hear facts, then put me on ignore.

YOUR heels? LOL

  • Offensive Explosion continues
    • Another 130+ offensive efficiency rating with around 70 possessions
      • EFG% and TS% were both at 68% (!)
      • FT% was down today though
      • 60% on 2FG
      • 55% on 3FG
    • Turnovers don't look nice
  • 4 games in a row of 10+ rebound margin (prior to, only had occurred in back-to-back games twice)
    • again grabbed 30%+ of offensive rebound opportunities
    • again grabbed ~54% of all rebound opportunities (4 games in a row of >= that metric
Of course, it must be acknowledged that the average NET for the last 5 opponents is 135. It feels like the defense maybe has been somewhat worse too, masked by the offensive surge.
