NFL 2017-18

Hmm, yeah, a half game back in the division halfway through the season, better give away our top only receiver.

I rag on him for his immaturity (mostly off the field). I don't expect him to do jacksh*t with no OL and no receivers. And average RBs.

That O-Line has had only one true guy on it that's been there since Cam came into the league, Ryan Kalil. And he's hurt at the moment. Trai Turner and Andrew Norwell are solid, but the rest of them...

McCaffrey will be awesome if we just figure out how to use him properly. Stewart is getting old unfortunately. And yeah, we need much better receivers.

Some of the Panthers players unhappy on Twitter. Can't say I blame them. If the FO is unhappy with Benjamin, then fine, but can't that be handled in the offseason????

A 3rd and 7th is market value for Benjamin. Jimmy G went for a 2nd, what was anyone expecting to get for Kelvin Benjamin?

That does show that the Panthers are punting on the season though. Which, I think is a sign of a good front office to know when they just don't have the horses to be an impact team this year.

When things don't work out, you gotta admit defeat and make a change *side glance to Bubba Cunningham*

Dude, lol. If we finish below .500 next season, then it will be time to discuss Fedora's potential firing. Right now isn't the time. I'm not going to turn this NFL thread into a Fedora discussion, but no worthwhile coach is going to come here if Fedora gets fired this year. Think about all the stuff outside his control that Fedora has overcome. Also think about his accomplishments -- namely two division titles -- during his tenure. If he's fired after this season, any worthwhile coach will examine those facts and say "nope, that's a terrible place to work."

I wonder if we'll use Stewart and Artis-Payne more in the backfield and McCaffery more as a WR now.
I'm still thinking WTH. The Panthers are half game back in a jumbled up division and already down their most reliable receiver, and then they trade their 2nd best guy?

Yeah maybe McCaffery would be better as a slot receiver. He sure as hell is not a between the tackles RB.

If the niners end up with one of the top two picks in the draft, do they still take a QB?

Maybe not. The no 1 pick would be worth more as trade bait, don't ya think.

One of the local sports talk guys I listen to on my drive home from work said he would still take one and then franchise Jimmy G next year to at least see how he does.

BTW @Hark_The_Sound_2010 the trade doesn't necessarily mean the Panthers are folding it in for the season. Might just mean they don't think it's realistic they will be able to re-sign him. He carries no dead cap space for 2018 and it will save the Panthers about half a million dollars to trade him.

This is why I prefer college football over the NFL. Same with basketball. UNC / college hoops is way more entertaining than the NBA, especially in this "super team" era.
I agree that college hoops is more enjoyable than NBA. But I like pro and college football equally.

While a singular college game can be much more exciting than an average pro game (especially the rivalries, the college crowd, etc), I find the fact that there are only a handful of mostly the same big dogs that have a real shot at winning it all VERY boring. Unless you're a fan of Bama, OSU, same ol, same ol, same ol shit every year, then forget it.

Browns trade for AJ McCarron fell through because they waited until AFTER 4:00 PM to call the league office about the trade. They agreed to the trade at 3:55 PM. Stunning

Then again, didn't Newton have his MVP season the year KB was out? Seemed like he spread he ball around more, rather than just look for his buddy all the time.
Yes, he did, and I thought about that. There are some major differences. The WRs in 2015 still weren't great, but they had Ted Ginn, who made a world of difference. They had a healthy Greg Olsen who absolutely set the world on fire. When he comes back this year, how effective can we expect him to be? I'll be shocked if he's 100% himself. Finally, Cam was a monster among men in 2015. Now, he's coming off of shoulder surgery and looking very ordinary, if not below average, at times. I don't see it ending well this year. Obviously, I hope I'm wrong.

Good points. Ginn could take the top of the D; the Panthers don't have anyone that can consistently do that now. Plus, Cotchery was pretty reliable as well.

Maybe they get Samuel on the field more. Maybe they can get McCaffrey in the slot more. But while Funchess and Dixon have had decent games at times, they aren't consistent from game to game.

I agree, I don't see it working out well either.

I still think Funchess was a terrible draft pick.

By the way, the biggest joke about the NFL is its handling of catch vs. not a catch. It is a damn J-O-K-E. Overhaul the rule and make it two feet and control, that's it. No "through the process of the catch." No "two steps plus a football-related move." No. Just no. The overturn of Zach Miller's catch against the Saints is mind-numbingly bad. It should embarrass the hell out of the league. And not even because Miller got hurt. Injury aside, it's still a terrible call.
