NFL 2017-18

Anyway, hats off to Cam, seriously. He played like utter crap last week, and he came in tonight with a gutsy performance and a should-have-been remarkable game winning TD pass to any WR who gives a damn. Unfortunately, he has Devin Funchess. He gets a lot of crap from fans, some of it justified, some of it not, but the dude has no WR, no running game, a mediocre O-line, an OC who makes some questionable decisions, to say the least, came off of shoulder surgery, and he still had a pretty good season.
Well said. He did play pretty good overall. If, like you said, the play-calling wasn't so damn predictable at times, they could've turned one or two of those 3's into 7's, and would be heading to Minnesota now.

They better get some receivers and o-line help or next year's ceiling is this year's roof.

I wasn't dissing Cam. With my QB comment, I was simply saying that Brees is one of the best ever. Much like Brady, he takes no-name receivers like Marques Colston and turns them into Pro Bowlers, until they leave New Orleans.

Cam played really well today for the most part. Brees is just Brees. If the Saints FO could ever actually get Brees a legit Top 10 WR, it would be scary.

I know, i get it.

Cam, Greg Olsen and Christian McCaffrey are the only true playmakers on the team right now. Funchess can be a solid 2 receiver but he’s not a one. Curtis Samuel and Byrd have potential but they both went down right as they hit their stride. We will see next year but I think they either need to hit free agency or find more people in the draft. Because Cam played well tonight, he just didn’t have enough protection or guys to throw to.

jalen ramsey is easily the best corner in football...that dude can play, he's physical, he's humble, and he's in his 2nd year.

i don't know if he'll travel with brown next week, but if he does, that matchup will be worth the price.

I thought Cam played absolutely well enough to get the W tonight. Clay catches that pass to make it 7-0, it's a totally different game.

He's also dead to me.

well, if you want a true #1, he'll be gone by the time you pick...ridley and washington are elite, they'll be picked by #20.

this league is no longer about elite #1's...it looks like it's becoming more about three guys that get open, that can be a wr, rb, or a te.

Gotcha. Believe me, I know how good Brees is. And he definitely makes his receivers better. Very few QBs can do that; he is elite for sure.

I was obviously frustrated at that dropped TD by some no name bum of a receiver that the Panthers employ in droves. Turns out that drop could've made the difference. Oh well.

Aikman commented that it didn't look like Funchess was able to plant his foot and lunge toward the ball, or something like that. While there may be some truth in that, it didn't look like he made any effort whatsoever - even just as simple as extending his arms and reaching out for the ball. Sad.
He's also dead to me.
I didn't understand the Funchess pick when it happened, and I still don't. Waste of a pick, especially when Benjamin was already the "possession receiver" on the roster.

Yep, and it wasn't like it was a scenario where they just took the best player available either. He was taken early on top of that. Just another Gettleman blunder.

Yeah I was trying to remember, but I seem to recall that they "reached" a bit and drafted Funchess earlier than he was projected/ranked.

So in terms of draft, Panthers need what? Based on my opinion following the Panthers from afar as my second-ish team, I would say:

- O-Line (don't know specifics enough to know which position, but the O-Line still sucks. Newton still gets killed by pass rush)
- Linebacker...? Thomas Davis has to be close to retirement and Kuechly's future, bearing in mind concussions(s), is ???
- WR (but maybe you go with FA to get a splash signing?)
- what else?

Matt Kalil is not a long term solution so definitely a left tackle. We have two pro bowl guards but Ryan Kalil may retire soon, so a center isn’t out of the question.

Stewart is past his prime so I’d draft a power back similar to him and let him go.

Perhaps a linebacker. Davis is 35 next year so that’s possible. I also think they need to go for a safety in the draft. Coleman is 28 but we need someone younger at the strong safety spot.

The panthers are good, but they aren’t exactly spring chickens. The window in the NFL is short lived, so an influx of younger skill players couldn’t hurt.

Finally.

I always got a laugh from announcers talking about how creative Shula was. And Dorsey hadn't helped correct Cam's mechanics in 5 years? It's time for a change.

Hopefully the new guy will actually realize that running C-Mac up the middle for a 1.7 yard average is doing nothing except getting 22 kilt.

We still have a top tier TE, and a promising RB; now let's get an elite WR for Gods sake.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why Cam throws off his back foot on at least 50% of his passes. He's often able to compensate because of his arm strength, but step into the damn throw already. It's one of the most aggravating things about watching him play.

Because he is the greatg Cam Newton he can do what ever he wants. I'm a Panthers fan I love them but I can't stand Cam. He is a selfish bastard, and if he worried as much about his mechanics as he does about what go to hell hat he was going to wear after the game he might get better.

The Panthers screwed up when they let that dumb arse of a GM get rid of Norman and they didn't sign Ginn back.

I feel like that's a big factor in them drafting these tall WR's like KB and Funchess. They needed dudes that could catch those high back foot passes from Cam.

Yep, Gettleman is too arrogant for his own good. He inherited some good pieces, and made a few good moves (strong DL) but more bad (WR, OL, DB*) than good.

*the young DB's have shown some flashes at times but letting Norman walk, without really getting anything for him is just stupid.

Also, it was appropriate that Ginn burned the Panthers, since they let him go for a second time! He's exactly the speedy WR they still need.

I guess it allows him to get rid of the ball quicker or something, but I agree. He'll do it even when he has plenty of time to cut it loose, and it's the reason why so many sail on him. I mean, it's great that he can do it when has to, but most of the time, it's unnecessary.

All the Panthers do when Ginn is on the team is win!

He's talking about Shelby Lynne. He's not a fan of her music.
I thought he had a thing against Cobras.
