NFL 2017-18

Mularky won't be the Titans coach next season.

Yeah, I'm not displeased. I wouldn't have minded him staying if he would have gotten rid of Robiskie but he refused to do that. So he walked away from a head coaching job (probably end up a tight ends coach somewhere now) when he could have had an extension with simply a OC change. He killed himself with his comments after the game Saturday though.

Jalen Ramsey guarantees a super bowl win. I wouldn't mind seeing that come true.

Those Jaguars LOVEEEEE to talk. It's worked for them so far, but let's see if that continues.

Wouldn't mind seeing Jacksonville win it. Maybe Fox and CBS will eventually decide they should show other teams on the national broadcasts not named the Packers, Cowboys, Giants, Steelers, and Patriots.

Has nothing to do with who wins and everything to do with how many people actually want to watch them.

The Jags may have a chance if Fournette is healthy and plays well.

That, plus they HAVE to get pressure on Brady, or he will pick them apart. Jags would need to sack him 5+ times, and make him uncomfortable as hell, maybe get a pick or two. If they did get a lead and could run the ball well, then maybe they have a shot. But it's long odds for sure.

Good for him.
Not necessarily. If he blows out his knee in his senior season and loses some of his ability as a runner..... no bueno.

christian wilkins is returning for clemson...don’t quite understand a first round pick returning unless the money is less in the nfl.
I don't get it either. It's definitely a trend going around college football, though. Lots of folks returning for their senior season who probably should go. I think players are starting to recognize they can really build their brand while in college, if they're at a blue blood and/or Top 25 program that's on TV a lot. Sometimes, these college studs leave a year early, and then wind up in a market totally ignored by the East Coast like Oakland or San Diego, and become invisible from a marketing standpoint (Joey Bosa comes to mind)

The Rooney Rule. Do you like this rule? Whether you like it or not, is it really effective? Discuss.
I'm not a big fan of affirmative action and that is essentially what this rule is. I guess it was needed to begin with, but there have been enough successful minorities in the NFL that I don't think it's really needed and in some cases can even be demeaning if it's known who will get the job already.

It's definitely affirmative action, and it's definitely gotten to the point where it's demeaning. It's created a lot of "token" interviews, which is demeaning to everyone involved... the minority candidate, the GM, the organization, and the fans.

Yeah, the token interviews are a farce. We've been hearing for days how the Pats DC and OC are basically locked into jobs at Detroit and Indy, respectively. So, did either organization interview a minority candidate? Same deal with the Raiders; they basically just plucked Gruden from the broadcast booth, apparently without interviewing anyone else?

The spirit of it is nice - to ensure that franchises give minority candidates a fair shake. But the rule itself is a waste of time and a joke. People interview for jobs they have no chance of getting just as a formality to satisfy the rule. I'm not sure what they thought it would solve either... if an owner is prejudiced against a certain race that he'd be unwilling to even interview a minority if it weren't for a rule making him do so, do they really think he'd all of a sudden lose that prejudice and actually hire the guy after a [forced] interview?

I think we are past the need for it. Plenty of successful minority coaches right now. Sports is the closest thing to a merit based system we have in society. Why should the Oakland Raiders be penalized for not interviewing a minority candidate when they clearly wanted Jon Gruden from the beginning?

Agreed.

IIRC, the Panthers DC got at least one interview (lions, maybe?). He probably needs to prove himself for more than one season to be a legit candidate, and to be honest I'm glad he's not leaving yet. I'm holding out hope that Norv & son can solidify the offense; at least make it more consistent.

From my understanding, they're forced to hire a minority candidate because of the rule. Typically, they'll just interview a minority coach already on staff as a token interview to satisfy the requirements.

By the way, I totally don't buy it when writers criticize an owner or team for "knowing who they want" and going to get them. Well duh, it's a billion dollar entity these owners own. They're gonna hire who they want.

I used to think he was OK, but after today - IF he doesn't get fired, he should fire the OC, DC and special teams coach. They all were turrible. If it weren't for unbelievable catches by the Steelers WR's, they would've lost by 28.
Steelers part ways with OC Haley. Those two fourth and short play calls were horrendous. I heard where Big Ben was 18 out of 19 getting first downs in those situations by running the tried-and-true QB sneak, yet Haley didn't try that either time? Dumb.

Starts at the top. I'm with @gunslingerdick on this one... Tomlin is a pretty mediocre coach. I lost all respect for him after the sideline thing against the Ravens. Dude knew what he was doing.

And he didn't exactly cover himself in glory this season with the kneeling / Villanueva situation. But I recognize that's a dicey issue.

I just don't like or respect the culture he's built within the organization. It's 180 degrees polar opposite of what Belichick and the Pats do. We've seen the results. You'd think Tomlin would have figured out he can't run such a loosey-goosey lockerroom.

And most recently,...why on earth would you onside kick? Why, why, why? It made zero sense.

Regardless of how anyone feels about Brady, I hope they realize that they're watching the greatest quarterback of all time. As much as I loved watching Montana, Favre, etc., the arguments for other potential GOATs are falling away with each year that Brady continues to play.
I’m anything but a Bahston fan. Tom Brady is the best to ever get in the QB business. No matter the receiver. No matter the running back. He wins. Tom Brady is a winner. Say what you will but just remember you’re saying it about the GOAT to ever play the game.

Yeah, it's really annoying.
