That was one of the worst plays on defense I've ever seen.
Jimmy Johnson was trying to say the DB was wanting to avoid interference. But all he had to do was wait for the catch and tackle him. Game over. And as a double whammy, he took out his teammate who might have been able to make a play. Just crazy.

Instincts took over, I guess.

Well Carolina leads the all time series against the Saints 24-21, so....
Doesn't make it a "rivalry." The Panthers are the new kid on the block. The Saints - Falcons rivalry is nearly 50 years old. It is what it is.

Amusingly, much of the Falcons - Saints rivalry was fostered because both were so horrible for so long during the 70s, 80s, and 90s. They would try so hard to beat each other because they couldn't beat anyone else. And then... after Katrina, (it feels like) 25% of New Orleans citizens moved to Atlanta, so you see Saints stickers and flags everywhere around town.

Sooo...

Tom Brady
Nick Foles
Case Keenum
Blake Bortles

"One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong, can you tell which thing is not like the others, by the time I finish my song?"

Who would you consider to be the best QB out of these 4? LOL

Hmmm...... something is different, but I just can't put my finger on it.....

So you're probably not a Prince fan either then? LOL

Man, I love me some Prince.

I think the DB was coming up and realized he was early and knew it was interference if he hit him. Only thing I can figure. I feel really bad for that guy. I am kind of a dick at times for sure but always empathize with someone who makes a play like that.

If Minnesota wins in Philly it’s going to be hard to beat them on their own turf.
They almost lost on their own turf today.

New England is getting another one. I think they will play Minnesota and the Vikings will lose ANOTHER Super Bowl.

Now that the Saints are eliminated, I have absolutely no interest in the SB. I'll still watch, but the commercials and food will be more interesting to me than the actual game.

BTW @Hark_The_Sound_2010 I bet Gronk watched that Saints - Vikings game today and LOL'd at some of the cheap PI's they called on the Saints. Gronk gets pass interfered with on every single route he runs and it never gets called.

But you know, the Pats get all the calls.

He definitely gets interfered with constantly. Doesn’t get called very often, as a de facto punishment for being bigger and faster than whoever’s covering him. He gets nailed for OPI a ton (maybe most in the league?), which he definitely does as well, but they seem to look very closely at him for it.

No one gets nailed as much for OPI as Mike Evans on Tampa, but yeah Gronk gets called for it a lot.

You hit on a good point about a de fact punishment for being bigger and stronger than everyone covering him. I know you don't like Cam Newton, but I think you'll agree that a similar phenomena exists with him. He takes a lot of licks while in the pocket (i.e. as a passer) that don't draw flags, while the same hits on literally any other QB would draw a flag. He gets de fact penalized for being a ginormous human being, which I think is pretty terrible. I'm still disgusted about the season opener against the Broncos from this past season (?). Grossly irresponsible officiating in that one, with respect to not calling roughing the passer as he was getting abused by Denver.

He also does a good bit of interfering of his own as well. He gets as well as he gives. There is no doubt guys get away with stuff with him at times though. It is just a ridiculously inconsistent job all around by officials regarding how they call it though.

Sorry, didn't read far enough as you and Hark basically covered this already. I'm lazy.

It's the exact same thing that Shaq had to deal with his entire career. He was a victim of his behemoth size and strength. Refs just figure he should be able to take guys literally hanging on him and hacking him to death. If he had been officiated correctly his whole career, he might have averaged 40.

But I'm not crying about it. Those dudes have an advantage of being so badass that if they get the shit end of the stick with officiating, then so be it.
