OOTB Carolina football discussion thread

I don't hate Bama; it's more like I'm just tired of seeing them in there every year. Kinda like the patriots in NFL. They're really good but if you're not a fan of their team, I'd prefer some different teams for a change.

Now, as for osu... yeah, I hate them bastages.
I don't mean just Bama. It's totally understandable why anyone would hate Bama or Ohio State. Hey, at least Bama typically earns their way in. Ohio State is like Notre Dame. They could lose half their games and the media would still rank them in the Top 25.

Just seems like you hate basically every program though :p whose a football program you like besides Carolina?

What championship games y'all watching? UCF - Memphis is wildly entertaining (AAC, on ABC). Lane Kiffin's FAU Owls are going up against Seth Littrell's North Texas Mean Green (on ESPN2). And Oklahoma - TCU just kicked off.

I really only hate osu and moo, of course.

The playoff committee is sitting on go looking for the first any chance they can get to put Bama back into the playoff!

You watch Bama will be in regardless of what happens mark it down!

Tried to tell yall!

Bama is going in and that is the biggest bunch of horse shit ever!

I don't like OSU but them or UGA should be in before Bama!

I know know what's getting ready to happen.

So here's what a 16-team playoff might look like this year. All 10 conference champions get an automatic bid, then the next 6 highest-ranked teams in the final CFP poll get the remaining bids as at-large teams. The winner from the top half "bracket" would face the winner of the bottom half for the national championship.

Look how many great matchups you get just in the first round: USC-Penn State, Ohio State-UCF, Auburn-Miami, Wisconsin-Washington.... Then if the seeds hold you could conceivably have a second round with Clemson-USC, Ohio State-Alabama, Oklahoma-Auburn, and Wisconsin-Georgia. Seriously, what's not to like about that?

16 is way to many teams. 4 is perfect but I would accept 6 - 5 P5 conference champs plus 1 at large.

And yet FCS manages to do it with 24 teams every year. You can't tell me 4 is perfect while 12-0 UCF is left watching the playoffs on TV. We could maybe argue between 8 and 16 teams, but first-round byes shouldn't be implemented unless there are at least 12 teams.
Well I guess that settles it then.

What's so great about your scenario above? You know I'm like you and will watch damn near every John Boy's $7.99 Down Home Country Buffet Bowl this December, simply because we love college football. But that doesn't make it awesome.

In your match-ups above (yes, I know they're hypothetical), Clemson would annihilate FAU, Georgia would steam roll Troy, Alabama would thump Boise State, etc. With 5 at large-bids as well, it would really de-value the P5 conference championship games most years. What if in Georgia's steam roll of Troy, Jake Fromm gets hurt?

Also, if you're going to give an auto-bid to every conference champion, it's gonna cause conference to have to totally re-structure (which might not be a bad thing) in attempt to even out some of these woefully lopsided divisions.

Logistics question: where would they play these games? Higher-seed home field?

I think 16 is too many. Don't really care for watching Troy and Toledo in the playoffs.

But I think 4 isn't enough. With Alabama getting an auto-bid every year, that only leaves 3 open spots annually. I think the 5 P-5 champs and top 3 at large would be good. If they take away the Bama auto-bid and make it a requirement that you need to win your conference to make the playoffs - then 4 is sufficient.

More football.

It's no different than the FCS tournament (where the top 8 teams actually get a first-round bye) or the NCAA basketball tournament. Clemson, Georgia, and Alabama all had outstanding years and should be rewarded with more favorable seedings/matchups.

With 5 at large-bids as well, it would really de-value the P5 conference championship games most years.
Disagree, because the conference championship participants are literally playing for an automatic berth so that they're aren't subjected to the whims of the committee to land one of the at-large bids.

This is possibly the worst argument against playoff expansion I've ever heard and I won't validate it with a response.

Yes, first round games would be at the site of the higher seed. Makes attendance easy and provides a reward for teams that had outstanding seasons (see above). After the first round, you'd only need four sites. That could either be another home-field game for the higher seed or be integrated into the bowl system like the playoffs are currently.

I would be fine with the committee adding "conference champion" as a requirement. Five P5 conferences, five champions, one gets left out. Obviously a stipulation would need to be in place, like "can't have more than 2 losses" or something like that, but I'd be okay with that setup.

But in general, I love how it is now.

16 does seem too many. I'd like to see 8, but would be fine if they went with 6; the five conference champs plus the highest rated non-P5 team. Top two teams get a bye.
Such a set-up would be interesting because of the immediate effects it would have on two areas:
1. Divisional set-up
2. OOC scheduling

Divisional alignment would become a HUGE point of contention for all 5 P5 conferences. Since winning the league would be the name of the game, suddenly teams in "strong" divisions like ACC Atlanta, B1G East, and SEC West wouldn't love life so much. There would be demands to balance divisions or even scrap divisions. Also, the nature of college football vis a vis large conferences (you can't play every team in a large conference) would cause hand-wringing as well.

For OOC scheduling, it would essentially cease to matter in this setup for P5 teams. Would this cause P5 teams to grow some balls and schedule tough HOME-AND-HOME (not neutral site) games more often? Or, wanting to avoid an FSU situation from this year (Alabama murdered their QB and thus their season), would programs simply schedule the easiest OOC they could. Would OOC be scrapped or reduced to just 1 or 2 games in order to move to a 10- or even 11- game conference schedule?

I’ve thought it should be 8 since they started the playoffs.... 5 conference champions and the next 3 highest ranked teams..... it’s only 1 extra week so you could play quarterfinals the week before Christmas(still have 2 weeks add before that game in most instances), semifinals on New Years Day then Championship a week later

Sooo I just read that UNC n Auburn are inching close to a deal to play in the Chick Fil A Kickoff game in 2020.

Disclaimer. I apologize to @ticket2ride04 if this is old news.
