OOTB Carolina football discussion thread

When I seen this I didn't even know that Dax had committed to VT yet but I have known this was coming for months since the end of high school football season

So what are you planning to do about it?

Kids these days I was the biggest die hard in the world when I was these kids age and if I would have been good at football or basketball and the Heels would have offered me there would have been no question what I would have done.

If I had of been a basketball play and K would have pulled in my drive way I would have met him at the car to told him he wasn't welcome GTF out of Here!

But kids these days who knows what they are thinking?

So why did true frosh LB Malik Robinson, listed 6'0 225 get special teams PT, but could get running vs NCSU when we were down cole, cayson, andre and ayden and having to play nickel and stuff - getting gashed with Artis, JSmith and D Ross.

Malik is clearly athletic if they put him onto ST, and you can see he's athletic on coverage.

What is this yankee shit? Yams =/= sweet potatoes. Clearly whoever runs the UNC Twitter account (and whoever invented the name "Yam Jam") aren't farmers, nor are they familiar with vegetables.

Good work though, Jason Brown!! Makes me proud to be a Tar Heel.

I mean obviously you could figure out it was a Ruder. I was just letting you know he's Jace's dad, not Jace himself.

He actually has posted on the free board before and told us he was Jace's dad.

If that was Jace himself I'd be seriously concerned. Though I could see how that poast could read like it was him lol

Oh he did? Nice. I missed that. He poasted mostly during Jace's recruitment and then following Jace's commitment. He said he was going to drop his membership once Jace enrolled, for obvious reasons, but.... maybe he couldn't resist the urge haha.

Yeah he made some comments about him being a good kid and having character. Obviously his dad is going to be a little biased but he seems like a nice guy.

Yeah from everything I see on ze Twitter, Jace seems like a good dude and very humble. Also his gf is fine AF. So there's that.

Jace's dad already made mention that Jace (a devout Christian from rural Kansas) has already been taken aback by some of the things his professors have said in his classes lol.

Just wait until he finds out how thirsty the girls in chapel hill are

Playing STs is a whole lot different than playing LB. Athleticism only takes you so far. You need to know scheme and angles.

I don't expect rookies to know what they are doing immediately, though Andre Smith, miami's LBs and plenty do. It took Cayson Collins 4 yrs to put it all together. But it shouldn't take much to do better than what we had at the end of the yr... i guess that is a scary part.

Now that he's no longer a current player, can we stop perpetuating the myth that Andre Smith was some sort of All-American LB? Dude was slightly better than average.

Yes, please. I could never understand the praise he would get on the boards. He made a lot of tackles, but they all seemed to be 5-7 yards past the LOS.

He looked good his freshman year because he would sub in for Schoettmer and play along side a great college (and fringe NFL) LB in Shakeel Rashad. And at other times, Schoettmer would move over and slot in and play alongside Smith and Rashad. As soon as those two left and AS has to become "the guy" in the LB corp... well, y'all saw the results.

Andre Smith got invited to the combine, shakeel did not. He has good instincts and is a good tackler. Not super quick, but good angles, probably up there w nazair and mj as the best defenders we've had recently.

edit - i might be wrong about shakeel not going to the combine. But combine invite means you are pretty good, esp when you were injured.

Spain nor Donnie miles nor Proehl got combine invites, just MJ and Andre.

It's a whole different world out here than the left and right coasts. I have no desire whatsoever to move back.
Heh. A lot of my friends here complain it is too conservative. Yes, in the Triangle and at UNC. Funny to hear someone calling NC a liberal place. Hopefully someday.

Those people scare me.
Some of them scare me too. As much as the Triangle is different than elsewhere in NC though, in the last election Hillary got 1.7 votes for every Trump vote in Wake County. Most of the Bay Area was over 4 to 1 for Hillary. It's like a Carrboro level of liberalism for 7 million people.

Will be moving up to NY after I graduate, so don't worry my vote will be wasted. NC is turning though, too many liberal immigrants moving here for the tech/healthcare jobs. It won't be conservative much longer, just like Virginia.

Virginia isn't conservative. Well it is, but NOVA isn't.

NY is right up your alley

The state, not so much. The University, absolutely.

Although sometimes I feel like the school tries to be more liberal than it really is. Like with the Silent Sam thing - no way people actually give enough of a damn to make making sure that thing is removed the hill they want to die on, but they do it because they think it makes them look cool (it doesn't).

That's what I said. NC is becoming less and less conservative, just like VA already has.

There are a few things driving the complaints: the statue, the Civil Rights center, lack of diversity among professors (and recently a couple of high-profile black professors, already an underrepresented group, being let go), and a more conservative student body than you would see at most schools outside the South (not sure I agree on this one).
