Puff is gone

Add another to the portal! Straight dumpster fire gets worse
Sad to see Puff leave, but wish him the very best. He always gave his all for Carolina. He like other reserves were not played enough or their roles not defined.

Played it at the collegiate level, but ok, if you don’t like an opinion, refuse to engage. Exactly what is wrong with this world. I bet you are big Antifa and Blm fans.
OK, so just to let you know, you are new here and you tend to be a bit of a bull in a china shop so it gives others pause, it makes folks wonder what your agenda is. So you played college ball, I have seen something recently in a reply from you that added to tells me that you may have played for a college woman's team, I am getting to a question, hang on.

Being totally honest, I don't enjoy the woman's game as much as maybe I should, the woman's game IMO is more fundamental than the men's game, it is more dedicated to how the game was invented and perfected to be played because the level of athletism is more equal than I see in the men's game. My point is if my math adds up here that you should know a good bit more than a casual fan about what you see and what we should see.

So share with us, what did you see this season both right and wrong, what were the major issues and what could the cure be. Some will agree and some will not, happens to me all the time, but if you are going to be controversial I would like to see where you are coming from.

It's going to be tough on coaches trying to balance between the portal, and incoming freshman. Have to agree that most players do not want to become bench players and wait their turn. The landscape has changed, and if you have noticed during the tournament team were not going to their bench a lot unless a player was in foul trouble. Filling out a roster each year is going to be stressful on all the coaches, would not want to be in their position.
When you look at the players in the portal today the vast majority of them there at some point in high school dreamed of getting an offer from UNC, from duke, from Ky, from Kansas, no offer came. So they went to a smaller program and tried to create a new dream and to some extent most of them did but the old dream does still remain. There are more than a few that will answer the phone when UNC calls, that see the openings we now have on our roster and realize, I have the chance to play for UNC, I have to earn it against big time talents but I now have that chance I did not have before, how important is living out your dream to you?

So far under Hubert, when he has set his goal as getting a kid he has got him, who has he missed other than the Meyer kid? Of the things that do concern me about Hubert, recruiting is so far a big strength. BTW, before someone says it, Hubert got GG, GG did in fact commit, but GG and his camp elected to reclassify and that changes the game.

My thing is I see us in need of some very specific things, like we absolutely need more consistent scoring from the 3 and 4 spots, we absolutely need some size at the 4 and 5 to help Bacot, I think we are looking at 4 now no less than 3 from the portal. VERY interested to see who those guys will be as well as who of the returning guys put in the off season and work and come back vastly improved. If Love does not come back I think we could be looking for as many as 2 starters from the portal (1 at the 3 and 1 at the 4), if Love is back I would start him at the 3 and RJ at the 2. I am good with which ever earns it to be our starting PG, Wilcher or Seth, I would give them near equal PT at least early.

The battle for who gets tapped as our starting 4 should be the most interesting battle, does Jalen really step up, can High be that guy, who is this portal guy or guys?

We need wings most of all. But college basketball is significantly watered down as of late. Recruiting analysis is at an all time low where they focus more on length and athleticism than actual basketball IQ, defense, and ability to score.

And if they do pan out in analysis, those recruits leave after a year anyways leaving the door a revolving door that makes it unable to create a program and culture necessary to sustain at a high level. Scheyer as lame as he is said Duke will be adjusting their recruiting style, and I don't blame him. We have feasted this past decade with continuity while Kentucky and Duke fooled themselves chasing prima donnas. We need to stop becoming that revolving door ourselves with the portal and chasing as well. Hopefully we get our cupboard to that point again. It's gonna be hard with the portal though able to poach half your team at any point, but it is what needs to be done.
I think we need shooters, heck I would thing long and strong about Girard, he is a small guy that does not defend well but he can shoot the cover off the ball, situationally that can be really important. I like Timberlake, decent size but again, he can shoot the cover off to.

Length and athletism is great, I love it but that athletism needs to pair with skill. Couple cases in point from this last season team, Trimble and Styles. I know, LOTS of folks think I have lost it when I talk as I do about Trimble, all they see is how poorly he shot the ball, he didn't hit jump shots and nothing else matters to many. Fantastic athletism but if the ball does not go in fans will not forget that. Point is no matter what, he will be thought of as a player by his shots either going in or not. Your legacy is based on scoring now days. So that weak spot in his game has to be addressed, I think it will be, we will have to see if it is. Styles same thing, very nice athlete but he has not been a consistent scorer in his 2 seasons with us, would suggest that most UNC fans hated to see him go but don't feel as if we lost a lot in his leaving. Cold yeah but kinda how it is, same true with Puff.

IT is great to have athletes but it ain't to shabby to have a Wes Miller in the fold as well or a Brady Manek, guys that can shoot it, guys that when you need a big shot to drop you do not mind them taking it rather than a guy like Leaky or JP. If we are going to insist on playing a spread offense 4 or 5 out deal then I think we need to put a premium on shooting over defending and use a strong shooting 2 guard that has decent size at the 3, where I would put Caleb if he were to come back.

Consider me confused. Are there requirements for admission to this board. Are Dsouth and Dave the editors or part of the posting editors. This has never happened before.

No, I am not part of the staff, I am a poster like anyone else, I have just been here for a minute. And absolutely NO in any way looking to be grouped in any discussion of the chappel guy.

I did not hit you with any requirements, I simply gave you a way to maybe gain a little respect here but if you want to slap that helping hand away by all means do so. You feel free to keep on doing things your way, yeah, it has worked out so well for you so far...
