Rank 'em -- Christmas Movies

My favorite of all Christmas movies is the musical version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

My favorite Christmas "story" is Dicken's A Christmas Carol.

This version is incredible :

Scrooged?
Christmas with the Kranks?
A Christmas Carol?
Jingle All The Way?

:D Not that these are all classics...

Ranking the original choices, I would go as follows

1: It's a Wonderful Life
2: Home Alone
3: A Charlie Brown Christmas
4: A Christmas Story
5: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
6: Christmas Vacation
7: The Santa Clause
8: The Grinch (Live Action)

If the Grinch cartoon was an option instead of the Jim Carrey movie, it would be in the 3/4 range. There are some good things about that version, but I vastly prefer the cartoon.

I'm in the camp that would also include Die Hard, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street, and White Christmas on my list of Christmas movies to watch each year.

On a Christmas Carol note, the community theater group that I work with just had their 9th annual production of Christmas Carol this past weekend. It was the 4th time I've been a part of the show. I've played the Ghost of Christmas Present, Marley, Fred (Scrooge's Nephew), and this year I played an interesting character that I have to explain. Our director made the choice to gender-swap certain roles this year so Scrooge was played by a woman. So in Christmas Past, when we see Young Scrooge, her love interest (which is typically female) was switched to a male, and I was that character this year. It was very interesting playing a part that is traditionally female, and the show was generally very well received. They still plan on going back to the "normal" way next year though, but it was a fun change of pace.

Homophobe
I'm not even kidding when I say that there were certain people in the cast who would only be in it if they were reassured that Scrooge would not be a lesbian because they were afraid what their church friends would say if they saw the show.

I go to a Baptist church I can't see that being a problem in our church.

Another great movie set during Christmas but not a traditional Christmas movie is The Ref with Dennis Leary and Kevin Spacey. It's on Netflix right now so I'll probably watch it in the next few weeks.

So the preachers don't like carpet munchers in your neighborhood?

So here's one that's a little less known but my grandmother loved this so my family watched it every year (on VHS). While I never watched the Waltons, this movie is pretty good - has a good Christmas story and it includes Cleavon Little, who provides some humor.

My friends who hosted the Star Wars marathon around this time last year are hosting a Christmas movie marathon today. We got to vote on 8 movies and the top 4 made the cut.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (live action)
Nightmare Before Christmas
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
(Pizza Break)
Elf
That election was obviously rigged.

Who would you rather, Christmas movie edition:

Beverly D'Angelo, as she looks in Christmas Vacation or Zooey Deschanel, as she looks in Elf?

They're both A'ight to me. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Zooey too, but Christmas is all about having dreams come true.
Both "a'ight" ?? Both are DIMES. Hell, Zooey doesn't even look nearly half as hot as "normal" in Elf and she still looks like a babe.

And I don't generally find 80s and 70s chicks sexy, but Beverly D'Angelo is extremely easy on the eyes in Christmas Vacation.

I'm picking Zooey, without much debate. Nothing against Beverly, but Zooey wins for me.

Now if we're including good looking women from movies not in the original rank em, might I interest you in the cast of Love, Actually? Keira Knightly, January Jones, Elisha Cuthbert, Shannon Elizabeth, Denise Richards, Claudia Schiffer, and Ivana Milicevic are all pretty easy on the eyes.

Has nothing to do with Christmas movies......... but I'll allow it.
