Seventh Woods & Felton could be a very good backcourt.

Yes, they could. And a backcourt of Berry, Felton, Woods, Williams, Pinson, Robinson, and Platek would be terrific next year. I would start Berry/Felton/Pinson and bring 7th/Williams/Robinson off the bench.

I would also start Berry/Felton/Pinson as that would be an extremely athletic group. However, if we land Knox then that group is likely off the table. I'd then start Berry/Pinson/Knox.

If Knox comes, then I vote to play a ton of small ball next year and go with Berry, Felton, Knox, Pinson, Bradley. Knox and Pinson can hold their own against 4s in the ACC, especially in this day and time when more teams play stretch 4s and less back-to-the-basket 4s.

The bench would be adequate but not stellar.
Seventh (PG, SG)
Williams (SG, SF)
BRob (SG, SF)
Maye (PF)
Huffman (PF, C)
Manley (PF, C)

Knox would make us a top 10 team, IMO. Probably still top 20 without him, provided Joel returns. If Knox comes, I hope to see a ton of Joel, Jalek, Theo, Kevin, and Tony.

Berry/Pinson/Knox/Tony and whoever would be a heck of a starting 5! :)

Joel - Jimmy
Theo - Michael
Luke - Matt
Knox - James

Tony - Sam

A solid point

3 legitimate stars

Yes, Knox would play SF and Luke would play PF. I just lined them up this way to emphasize the talent similarity.

We've seen this formula work before.

I had a big, long, drawn out response to this poast of yours. But I erased it and I'm just going to respond with:

I would rather have heard the long drawn-out response.

Don't you think Joel can be as good as Jimmy Black?

You don't have to think Theo is as good as MJ to think that Theo as a senior could be as good a MJ as a freshman.

The way Luke is developing, it's not a huge reach to think he could play the cleanup role Matt Doherty played on that championship team.

So that leaves Knox in comparison with Worthy and Tony against Sleepy Sam.

Knox might someday be as good as Worthy. It's really hard to tell at this juncture. So that one clearly goes to James, unless Knox is a good bit better (and more ready) than expected.

I loved Sam Perkins. But I honestly think that Tony as a sophomore could be as strong for us as Pekins was for his team. I might be wrong. It's unproven for now. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Bottom line: that 1982 team, beats this hypothetical 2018 team mainly on the strength of James Worthy, Dean Smith, and foul shooting. But Roy will run them to death and has more depth, so you never know.

Theo does not compare to MJ, Tony is not in Perkin's league, and comparing James Worthy to a sr. in high school is blasphemy. That's my story and I'm sticking to it in the most respectful way possible!

While it is true that MJ was not the GOAT in college, he was a dadgum fine baller and a load to guard. I can clearly see why you set the comparisons the way they are (the skill sets and body types do resemble), but the problem is you are comparing our current/future peeps to some legends of the game! This isn't fair to the current guys or the legacy of the historic peeps! I love our current and hopefully future guys with a passion, but they are mini-mes compared to Sleepy, Big Game, and MJ.

I pray that the team you discussed actually happens and the results are the same as '82 though!

If Knox comes and Berry returns, we would easily be a National Championship contender. Take a hit in the post but Bradley is only going to improve and Maye has shown a lot already. Having Berry and Theo as seniors with talent like Knox and Felton....sign me up. Lack of depth in the post would be a worry but we could play small very effectively as well with Knox or even Theo at the 4.

I think Huffman will be perfectly capable of playing 10-12 effective MPG and Manley may even be capable of 4-5 minutes as well. But I think we'll see a lot more small ball next year and that should help our depth.

How small will small be (provided Knox signs) if the lineup is:

JB-6'0
KW-6'4"
TP-6'6"
Knox-6'8"
TB-6'11"

Perhaps a little smaller than the numbers suggest since Theo may very well be playing the PF spot in that lineup, much as he does when we go small now. If we sign Knox, and I think there's about a 50% chance that we do, that would be a very effective lineup. I think it would be even more effective with Jalek alongside Joel, provided Joel returns.

Shooters, and ballers, and bench....Oh My!

Follow the Tar Heel Blue road, follow follow follow follow the Tar Heel Blue road!

Roy we are not in Kansas any more!

If the wizard can give Tony 30lbs of muscle and 7th Woods a jump shot, maybe he can give Luke 4" of height? "We're off to see the wizard"...

Just click your Nikes together 3 times and say, there no place like Chapel Hill, there is not place like Chapel Hill !
