Berry was 100% better last night. Berry was terrifc. I even thought when Berry couldn't buy a hoop, he played an excellent floor game.I know +/- is a common, maybe loved stat - but its misleading in this case for Duval. Besides the dunk, he had one other FG (2-9, 0-3 from 3) and finished with 9 points. I don't know when his assists came, but his assist / TO ratio was 5/4. That's not good, if you consider every TO is a good candidate for a score on the other end. Plus his 5 fouls surely led to some free points at the FT line for Heels.
Joel Berry ended with 21 points, assist / TO ratio of 6/0.
Who had the better night? Who had the right to be woofing. Hint: its a guy in a lighter shade of blue.
If you think Dook would've won if Duval had stayed on the court....
1) BS - his in-game stats don't support that
2) that's on Duval, then. Learn how to defend without fouling.
Duval individually didn't have a good statistical night, but Allen playing off the ball helps him and is his strength. Also, I'm pretty sure when they had Duval, they were able to get the ball inside more effectively. We've seen this plenty of times with our teams in the past. When your natural 2 guard off ball guard needs to play PG, your team becomes really affected.
Plus/minus isn't the best stat in the world and college basketball doesn't have "real plus minus" like the NBA has. But in this case, if Duke's starters aside from Duval were collectively a -29, while Duval was a +9... It is an indicator that Duke as a team was much more effective with him on the floor as opposed to when he was on the bench.
Not sure if Duke wins if Duval plays 35 minutes... I think they have a much better chance of winning if he doesn't commit dumb fouls. And I mentioned Duval committing silly fouls. Obviously it's his fault.
