Two #1 seeds in NIT lose opening games on their home courts

The problem is he has no problem insulting any and everyone that disagrees with him. You can't have a productive discussion with him because he knows it all.

He brings everything he get on himself and deserves every bit of it.
Shelby, I understand, trust me I do, but let me ask you would it be a good idea to walk up to Mike Tyson and actively say something that you already know would set him off, I am not about to do that, I kinda like this living deal so far! LOL

What does anyone achieve by saying things in a way that you already know is going to set the guy off? I mean at some point it goes from I disagree with this guy to I am going to intentionally say things in a way I know will set him off and don't you dare blame me for doing it? I like gary, I do but i come from a world that has a LOT of gary's and I have learned that I can learn a lot from a guy like gary if I am willing to listen to his opinion. Gary would be quick, at least I think he would, that he and I disagree on a LOT but I RESPECT gary and I think the fact that I do that gary respects me. If I respect you then how can I be constantly side ways with you? My point, my daddy taught me this, show respect to people even if you don't think they deserve it and you will discover life will not be as hard as you think it is.

Shelby, I am kinda sorta still trying to get a good read on you, no offense but you are sorta new here and I really am not yet sure where you are coming from, I do not mean that in any way disrespectful, it is just I need to see more of your opinions, I am just not yet sure how to take you. There are a LOT of folks here that do not like me or what I have to say, if you are going to be as opinionated as I am I expect the push back, it goes with the territory as they say! LOL

It's like this I'm a Carolina fan through and through, but I also am willing to call a spade a spade. I don't candy coat anything, when it come to the Heels. I EXPECT them to make the tournament every year, finish in the top 3 of the ACC every year, and have to occasional final four run and national championship. None of the I'm my eyes is to much to ask for a Carolina basketball team, and the reason I say that is because we did it for we made the tournament something like 43 of the last 45 year, we finished in the top 3 of the ACC 60 times in the last 65 years with 32 champonships in 69 years nearly half the years we have been champions, 21 final 4's, and 6 national championship.

So with that said who can blame anyone for holding us to a higher standard when it comes to basketball?

As far as this year, it sucked in every way I am not a fan of Hubert Davis as a coach, I hated the hire I said 2 years before it happened it was a bad move now can things change and me be proven wrong, absolutely and I hope it's does but as of right now my prediction is trending in the right direction. But nothing drives me more crazy that for someone to label someone a bad fan or a troll because, they don't automatically approve of or say they approve of everything happening.

We have a tendency to label what happens on a particular day the gospel. For instance last year when we started making our run to the final 4 the blow hards was on here like crazy telling us Hubert was getting it and he is going in the right direction, and this this year when 4 of the 5 starters come back they want to use the excuse of Hubert just don't have the players. You can't have it both ways, I didn't expect them to go to the final 4 or win the national championship, but to not even make the dance and I the worst ACC field in the last 40 years is a sad excuse for Carolina basketball and its unacceptable.

So that's a bit more about my thought process, maybe expect to much, maybe I'm not forgiving enough.

Expectations for UNC are always going to be high especially for Tar Heel fans but that is a bit of a trap if I am being honest. UNC football for example, I follow all the off season stuff, see the guys that are getting ready to be major players for us and can't help but get excited every season that finally, and then reality sets in, oh, another season of UNC football results. This basketball team was much like that but included the whole nation, not just Tar Heel fans.

Look back at this season and so many times, so many critical times we were so close. So close to beating Alabama, so close to taking both Pitt games close but no cigar. The season before, before they caught fire late, we saw UNC blow out, back to back in 1 stretch, curb stomped as they say. Did not see that this season, Miami hit us hard but even in that game we did make a hard run to get back in it.

However, I don't think anyone can suggest that Hubert had anything but a really bad season as the coach, I would suggest his season was much worse than any individual players season was. His lack of experience showed hard, even more than his first year and I think the rational side of us should realize that. While most seemed to want either Hubert or Wes to get the gig, I was wanting King to get it or go outside the family (I felt King was more seasoned). My concern about Hubert was simply a lack of experience, I did not realize it was going to be this bad. I did like the path that Wes was on, figured out how he wanted his teams to play at a small school and made them better and now he is at a bigger program but not a Blue Blood, now lets see him take them to higher levels, I would now like to see King take on a bigger program so his development can get to that next level. Neither Wes or King are IMO ready for a program like UNC but both may have been more ready than Hubert seems to be at this point, hopefully that will quickly change, it can if he is willing to listen. I did feel that maybe Lebo and his head coaching experience would be able to help Hubert thru the transition more.

The major difference between that first season and the one that just ended was the lack of consistent production from the power forward spot, we didn't have that extra deadly scorer we had in Manic. You can hide 1 weak scorer, you can not hide 2 of them. Theo, for example, was the weakest scorer on the floor among the starters but we got the ball in Theo's hands so he could create, forced defenders to stay on him, you can't double off the guy with the ball in his hands. This season we were trying to hide 2 weak scorers and neither had the ball in their hands a lot so defenders could double off them and dare Leaky or Nance to jump shoot. We covered Leaky that first season because we had solid production from the 4 spot, we didn't have that this season so we could not hide leaky's short comings.

Have intentionally stayed away from these posts in regards to Davis on things which went wrong this season. Granted Davis is new and has a lot to learn on coaching at a college level. Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, which should be a minimum of 5 years, which two have passed. Davis can love the kids which he truly does, but sometimes they need tough love as well. Sincerely hopes they he goes back and examine the season, and determine what he could had done better, and use this as a motivation, and change for next season.

Oh I agree 100% but I'm not prepared to say that we were so bad as to not make the tournament. We under achieved!

But hey we will see how it goes next season.

IMO there wasn't a former player that was "ready" for this job. I get the staying inside the family and appreciate the effort to do with Hubert but the way we went about it was just stupid. I know I have used this example before but can you see Alabama football picking a guy off of a TV desk to be groomed for the next head coach? How about Ohio State or Clemson? It sounds so ridiculous when you think of it outside of our program. There are so many questions, most of the time when you see ex NBA, or college players that want to be coaches they go straight into that gig. Why didn't Hubert do that? Why was he the ONE?

Maybe I'm reading to much into that, but it doesn't make sense!

We could have hand picked our coach to a certain extent, but we avoided experience and a resume, for a hope and prayer.

One other point that drives me up a wall, Hubert talked over and over this year about the "outside noise" being a problem but he agreed to the SI cover photo shoot that is a serious problem when he helped make that noise.

the harsh reality is Hubert is lost. He's done nothing but trip over his own feet, and words literally this whole season. He told us how Styles may be one of the best to ever play at UNC and then proceeded to never play him, hardly EVER, literally, and he's now transferring. As you shared, he also agreed to do the SI Cover recreation which was a UNC marketing thing, and not even an actual SI cover which makes it even worse, and then after the fact he says there was too much outside noise. He would routinely talk in post game pressers about better shot selection, but never once sad Caleb Love for his shot selection which candidly was a big part of our outcome this season. Hubert is a nice guy. I've met him personally and shared a conversation with him and know that his heart is in the right place, but he's a trainwreck as a leader if this is the path he continues to go down. He's more friend than coach. He's more likely to let a guy wear green shoes vs sitting him after poor play. He's more likely to tell us that we have some of the best players to ever play at UNC, and then proceed to play the same 5-6 guys, none of which are said guy that is one of the greats. He's the same guy that will say "we looked tired at the end of the game" and you look back at the box score and he continues to play 5 guys over 30 minutes a game. We will hover on the bubble, rinse and repeat, and when asked what he'd change, his stock answer is play harder. You can't make it up. We knew there would be growing pains with this hire, but my goodness, I don't think any of us thought about how poorly this would be ran under Hubert.
