Udoka closing in on decision?

Some seem to think it's a KU vs FSU battle. Have no idea why!

I think this is perpetuated because of the fact that we came in late. Plus, the only source I've heard insinuate this was 247Sports:

"247Sports is hearing that it is a tight race between Kansas and longtime leader Florida State with the Seminoles likely still holding a slight lead. At this point Kansas has yet to pick up any Crystal Ball predictions."

Now Udoka could very well end up at KU or FSU. But it won't be because 247Sports says so. They gave an 80% chance of Seventh to South Carolina. And remember when they had Kevon Looney was "all but a lock" to Dook? None of them even picked UCLA. I think most of their "predictions" are just writers running on the same amount of inside information that most of us have. Which is not much.

I think UA ends up at UNC. Let see, FSU has three 7"footer yeah when they played us they didn't run any of their offense though there bigs or did I miss that part of the game if they did. KU, pretty the same, their offense flows via their wings first, but their big do get touches but nothing like UNC bigs.
All UA had to do is watch the FSU game itself and he would noticed which team used their Bigs more. IJS. I hope common sense prevails. GO HEELS

He will choose UNC if he uses common sense. There may be other factors involved that pushes him elsewhere.

Steat, I differently see your point and agree. It's seem to be more about the interest of the mentor, AAU Coach, parent(s) and scumbags that looking to gain something OFF the kids. However, that can be said about the NCAA for not changing the 0AD rule as well as the schools too but we all shall know sooner or later.

If he goes to FSU, it's probably because of the long term relationship not shenanigans. If its Kansas it also could be the playing time and history of that program too. I doubt it is Kansas though.

My crystal ball says, "UNC!" and it is at 92.5%.

Look at this way. If he plans on being one-and-done and everything is "equal" it's a no-brainer decision to UNC. But, if several people want to benefit "before" his one-and-done year he will not be coming to UNC. I just can't recall the last time a player came to UNC that had a handler. The NCAA can't touch the 2-3 layers above the handler. Ask WWW........

My heart says UNC, my head says KU. Hope my heart is right because he could get major minutes next year for us. He would be a beast in our system, and we need him badly. We' re likely going to have major attrition after this year so beaucoup de PT is his for the taking right off the bat.

Obviously I am biased but after watching what Brice did the other night and comparing it to his freshman year how can a hs big be undecided about what UNC can do for his game? That along with Roy's feed the post mentality would make me start drooling if I was a young big guy who could run the floor

I'm not sure if he's a one-and-done but if he thinks he is, he probably doesn't want to wait three years to develop. I think sometimes these kids look at someone like Brice and say, it took him four years to play like this...I don't want to wait that long.

I don't agree with that mentality, but I can see a lot of kids thinking that.

This kid is not one & done no matter where he goes, very very raw right now and I think he understands that. HUGE potential but no where near that potential right now, think Ojo (FSU player) level raw or maybe even Joel James. The difference is basketball instincts, Joel does not have great instincts blessed from birth, yet to be seen how much this kid has but the raw talent is darn sure there along with a certain aggressive streak on the court that I love to see.

That makes sense...haven't seen him play, but I like the idea of him being in college more than a year. With that in mind, he would have time to develop before leaving.

Don't count this kid out as a oad!!..top 25 ranking always leaves the chance of a potential early exit..plus,this kid can really ball!!..the Joel comparison is a laugher!!

Right. Joel James can't carry this kids jock strap (in my Larry Holmes voice). And I like JJ don't get me wrong. He gives us what we need for those minutes to buy time but to compare the two players is just wrong. This kid is going to be a stud in our system. Imagine what he could pick up during summer pick up games against May, Tyler, Sheed, Brice etc.

Bur, did ya read the last part of what I wrote referring to Joel James? Joel, great kid but his basketball instincts are just not there, I don't know, or does anyone else if this kid has better instincts, if he does then he could well be lotto at some point but were not those same experts sharing pre-season that the #1 pick in the next draft was going to be Skal?

For the record, if Joel had good basketball instincts, a thing that you are born with, and that aggressive streak on the court he would be lotto right now. 6'11" & 285lbs, folks and yes, that is VERY similar to this kid. Laugh if you will but but I know what I see. His skill is no where near his ability right now, you see a bench full of that wearing FSU jerseys.

You gotta love our fans. One guy claims Udoka is OAD and another guy claims he's Joel James. Wow. For the record, my opinion is that he's firmly in the middle of those two statements. He's a nice player and we'd be lucky to have him but he is not a OAD player. And he'll be more impactful as a freshman than Joel James is as a senior. IMO, Udoka is a 3 year player. If he has ideas of being OAD, we won't get him.

I never claimed this kid as being oad..was just stating that the potential is there as for any other top 25 recruit!!why can't he be oad for us?..if he comes in and do everything he's doing to date..he definitely has a chance..for every lay up joel shoots, he's finishing with thunderous dunks that catches the eye of scouts everytime...if joel was finishing this way with that size he has,he would get drafted in the first round guaranteed!!

He could be OAD, as a Heel or for another school.

The issue is, if he sees himself purely as OAD and has 'people' who are pushing him to be OAD then the Heels will struggle to land him.

If he's open minded to playing and developing in a true big man oriented system for a couple of years with the chance of surprising as a frosh. And as long as he doesn't worry about starting or playing off the bench, then the Heels have a good-to-great chance with him.

I thought he was a bit of a project. How does he just walk into a starting role ,unless he was promised that would be the case

Now slinger, I did not say this kid would be no better than Joel James, while I do not agree he will be one & done, I have not forgotten the excitement when Joel at 6'11" & 290lbs comitted to us. Thought I clearly seperated from him being Joel James in saying if Joel had certain traits, traits I think this kid has more of. Their size is clearly similar, the fact that both are raw talents prior to college is as well very similar. I do think this kid has a much higher ceiling than Joel but how much is way to soon to call.

Honestly, I think this comes down to 1 program will develop him better (UNC) but another may be a better perceived cultural fit for him right now (FSU).

Note, I think we are in good shape !

OK ,after missing out on udoka..big men wise, where do we go from here in this class?..do we turn our attention to 2017?..I saw where Roy visited udoka last week..guess his last pitch didn't go so well!!..shortly after that the J. Allen talked picked up..wonder if this was the reason why?

I'm not too optimistic, but I like this from the article above:
"It's got to be based on my relationship with the coach and big man style of play and how I fit their system," Azubuike said.
He is perfect for our system! I only hope he realizes that. He's a big, back to the basket guy, that no one would emphasize more than us.
