UNC @ Kansas game thread

We wouldn't have been in that game without Withers
That's no fair. You were watching the game without an agenda🤔
Was Withers perfect? No, he still makes silly mistakes, but to completely discount all he did throughout this game because he committed a turnover?
Withers certainly solidified his place in the rotation. I too would rather we had other options in the last few min, but until that happens, Withers needs to play.

Bottom line is it blows my mind how UNC can’t get a top notch center outta the portal. Sure could’ve used some muscle down low for sure. Spend the money guys everyone else is doing it.

He didn't play the whole game, why would you think he should be in at that time?
I am not ready to give up on him after s few games, but he was not ready to be productive tonight.
If he’s not ready tonight, when is he ready? He’s got experience. If he can’t do anything in this game, we missed big time.

Hubert chewed out the donors recently. If they won't pony up the money he needs for NIL, this is the type of frontcourt you can expect moving forward. We can't even get a top 40 big man in the class of 2025 despite the void in our lineup. Meanwhile Kansas has a 5 star big willing to come off the bench behind Dickinson.

Money talks.

Wasn’t able to get to a tv until the last eight minutes or so. Did Jackson play much in the second half?
Seemed like he played more in the first half, but he looked good on offense. Got out of position a couple times on defense. Overall a nice game from him.

Early one, some of y'all looking idiotic. I mean, really, how many teams go into AFH and get down 20 and almost win? We have so much upside from here it isn't even funny. Lots to learn from tonight.

Coaches just know when a guy isn't ready on a particular night. I don't know where Cade will be in Jan-March, but I also won't judge him after just a few games.
I still think he is going to settle in as an offensive threat in the next few games.
I am less confident in him defensively. I think he could be part of an offense for defense rotation at the end of games, once his offensive game starts clicking.

Guy has played 62 college games. It’s just a few games for us…but not a few games in his career. If he’s not out there for a 3, why is he on the team?

Just maddening that we lost again to those f’ers. Title game still has me salty. 2012 still has me salty. ‘93 still has me salty. KU is 1A to Dook in teams I can’t stand.

We were up by 3, with JWash going to the free throw line for 2 shots, after the final TV timeout.

We had a win, a huge win, a NCAA resume defining win, and we let it slip away due to poor decision making over the final 3 minutes of basketball.

We can get better. But part of it is going to be about clearly defining roles. From now on, the guards need to dominate everything down the stretch.

93 we won the Natty

No moral victories for a UNC team we expect to win no matter who we play or where we play. They will learn from it too hopefully on how to finish the deal. That goes for the coaching too.

I was really surprised at the outcome, not the fight of the guys they played hard and didn't quit but I was surprised that we were in the game late with a chance to win, with how out maned we were in the paint and we out rebounded them.

Im glad I was wrong about how we would fair.

If anyone to blame for this loss, it's RJ hands down.. 5th year senior, all American, ACC poy and 3-15 from the field? 1-7 from 3?
He’s not going to have the same season as last year. Bacot and Ingram could take late shot clock situations from him. RJ’s efficiency will likely take a hit this year.

Honestly, I hope his role reduces. That’s probably a sign that Trimble and Cadeau’s increased production is for real.

Its early but I think camping RJ in the corner with Withers in the opposite corner and Cadeau getting 1-5 ball screens would be UNC’s best half court offense.

The fewer dribbles RJ has in a game, the offense might be better off.

Not if EC throws the ball away after handling it in the half court. I’m surprised no one has pointed it out. Two to start out the game and two in the mid second half. Weird tos considering how good his looks are. Luckily he has several sweet assists, but not many rebounds. He’s never rebounds well even for a guard. Hopefully he can keep improving for sure. He has great vision and instincts.
Imo after watching this game, we can improve in several areas and be dangerous when it counts.

If you’re looking for tips on beating Kansas, you might need to bring a Ouija board. Frank McGuire had their number with a 3-0 record, probably whispering tips from the other side by now. Dean Smith went 2-2—legendary but no clear winner there. Then there’s Matt Doherty, who somehow managed to beat Kansas once and was still asked to leave town! And Roy Williams and Hubert Davis? Let’s just say, if you’re relying on them for Kansas strategies, bring snacks; it could be a long night.
