UNC vs Miami. Saturday 28 Jan 2017 game thread

The coach and the team just mailed this one in from the 17 minute mark of the first half. This is a talented team but when you hardly ever play defense and need to constantly be motivated it's hard to win a title.

1 game dude. Playing our 2nd game in 41 hours & had to travel 800 miles to do it. This is understandable, even predictable. How's Roy done in the last 7?

He's done well the last 7. But in this one, which is the topic of conversation, he isn't coaching very well. The players aren't playing great either, but he's not done a great job. Not a huge deal, it's just the truth.

Had a chance to go up 2 games on Fla. St. and Notre Dame instead laid a egg against a team that will struggle to make the NCAA tournament.

We've had good enough shots to win this one. Needed an A+ defensive game otherwise and didn't get it. Still love this team. Tuesday might be worth going to after all.

A Hicks flush and then a great block on the other end. Heels playing much better in the second half but they were just too far behind after that awful first half 63-46

Losing way too many 50/50 balls and the energy level just does not seem to be there. I am shocked to see a smaller team out rebound the good guys and the lack of effort but some of the better players on the team.

The problem is that even though we are playing with urgency and they aren't, we are still barely matching them.

We're a couple of missed threes away from these timeouts being really important for all you keyboard K's.

Another abysmal road game. We haven't been good on the road since Maui. Well, OK, we were good against UK, but it was a loss.

All 4 of our losses have been on the road. Most of our road wins have been by small margins. I haven't checked but this may be our worst road team since 2010.

Still time to turn it around, though.

Hard to understand Berry going 0-8 and basically looking asleep, out of it, never even looking to shoot or drive in the second half..... in his home state of FLA. He'll bounce back, but we need to find guys who can lead on the road.

We are going to get a ton of zone from here on out. Ol' Roy has to anticipate that is going to happen. And during practice, get more used to attacking it.

Attacking it means having Hicks or Meeks or Bradley get open in the lane, and we feed them the ball. The 1-2 times we actually did that today, it worked. Passing it around the perimeter and jacking guarded 3s, not so much.

We have been bad in the road all year but good at neutral sites. Even on the trip to Maui we kind of stunk against Hawaii and then rolled once it went neutral. No idea why. Have to get more from Berry as a leader though. If he is terrible we almost always lose.

I love Joel Berry, just as much as any other guy on this team. We do REALLY need him to be a leader of this team. We are screwed any time he has a bad game. Surely this was his worst. I don't think it will be a trend for him - I think it will be something to motivate him.

Outside of Jackson, I don't think anyone played well today. Maybe you could say Britt and 7th did OK, but each of them did things via fouls and / or TO's which ARE characteristic of them, to provide Miami about 8 points. Again - they are what they are. But if Berry plays even a C level game, and if we get anything out of the 2 (Kenny Williams), we'd have been there at the end. This Miami team is utterly beatable.

Not sure why they were going for the dunks late in the game. Miffed me a bit. I guess if we hadn't pressed, they wouldn't have tried to score. But they had ample opportunities to pull it back out and run clock.

A bad characteristic is for a team to play down to its opponent. And granted, they only had a day to prepare. But that shouldn't be an excuse for matador / lost / zero help defense, horrific shooting, and flat footed no effort rebounding.

Regarding scheduling, who works out a Thurs - Sat - Tues schedule? I know they will have to play on consecutive days come tourney time again. But 3 games in 6 days seems like a scheduling error.

Looking at the stats, we beat them in just one category. We got ONE MORE OFFENSIVE REBOUND than Miami.

They shot better from 2
They shot better from 3
They shot better from the FT line
They out-rebounded us
They had more assists
They had more steals
They had more blocks
They had fewer turnovers
They had fewer fouls

Yeah, even that surprises me. I thought they killed us on the offensive glass.

Well, maybe that will help us come tourney time...
