UNC vs Pitt Game Thread

Is it historical? It's long, but also not particularly noteworthy IMO. Doesn't seem straightforward to me. Would you feel it historical if Florida State had a 40 year home winning streak in football over Wake Forest and lost it? Idk, I'd think it more a random but fairly useless stat.
It's the longest streak, so yes it's historical. It doesn't have to be a useful stat to be historical.

And yeah, Clemson is an ACC bottom feeder. According to B-Ref (link: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/conferences/acc/schools.html) only Boston College has a worse SRS of all ACC teams in conference history. They're a horrible basketball school
I don't deny they are normally bad. I'm saying some of those wins have come against decent teams.

Part of me feels bad for some of these kids. I firmly believe that most all of them
Not named Cole, Bacot, Brooks, Francis and Harris were 100% content with grabbing a scholarship when offered from UNC, getting a good education and content with being a role player at best/likely end of rotation guy. They are now asked to actually play and produce which none of them are capable of frankly.

Well, Robinson was ranked around the top 50. I think he certainly should've gone in with the mindset of being a good player. He was ranked higher than Maye, Kenny, or Meeks. Leaky was around the same ranking as Harris (higher than Maye or Kenny as well), and I'm sure also felt he could play.

And then Keeling was a starter at the beginning of the year, and I have to believe knew that was a distinct possibility given our dearth of guards. That's eight guys. Pierce probably thought he could contribute too (and he has, though not a huge amount).

The only other scholarship players besides KJ (who is really a walk-on) are the three juniors: Huff, Manley, and Platek. Yeah, I mean, not sure any thought they would start, and they haven't. Only Platek has really caught flack, and I think that's only on this board because he has such an outspoken fan.

I sort of feel worse for Cole. He could've gone anywhere and somehow came into a situation that's turned out worse than many of us could've imagined for his only year. Not much of a college experience, at least on the court. Hey, he's going to have a pretty fricken awesome life though, so no big deal really.

If we are lucky enough for Cole to come back, another thing I hope is certain is that that narrative being spewed by a few that before his injury that Cole needed to trust his teammates offensively and give them opportunities to score will stop. I hope he takes 30 shots a game. Outside of Bacot and Brooks, not sure I want any of them shooting the ball.

Shoot cole shoot. You can’t miss anymore than the rest of the team

right? I’d rather a kid with his talent level shoot as much as possible, because we’ve seen that these other cats simply can’t get it done. If Cole shoots 25-30 times a game and is 40-50% from the field then we win a few more games.

When Cole returns, opponents will have to respect his scoring ability, which - in theory - should open up the paint a little bit, and give Brooks and Bacot cleaner looks. When Armando has his head in the game, the bigs are reasonably reliable.

I hope the "dog" in Cole will look at this situation as a challenge, and WANT TO get the Heels back to winning.

why would he come back though? if he feels he made a commitment to his team and wants to be out on the court with his teammates i wont fault him for it. from a what makes sense perspective though why would he come back, off an injury, to hopefully drag us to the NIT when he has already solidified himself as a top 5 pick? just seems like a lot to lose and not a lot to gain tbh

This team will improve upon Coles return. But enough to make a difference in the grand scheme of things? I dont know. Even with him I am not sure this team has a prayer against a Duke, or FSU. I'd like to blame the dip totally on Coles injury, but the team wasnt playing that well right before he got injured. It is just one of those years where you have injuries, recruits dont work out as good as hoped, etc. I remember long ago when K had one of these years. Of course, after the start of the conference season he decided his back hurt to bad to coach anymore and he laid his troubles in the lap of Pete Gaudett. At least Roy has enough of a spine to hang in there and not take the season off because of his knees, vertigo, or whatever excuse he could come up with
