The NBA does not decide anything. The player decides his own fate. If he thinks he is ready is will declare. He has told Roy he is OAD. It''s really a moot point what we think. Now, he may change his mind between now and the 2020 NBA draft, but he has made it known to Roy that he plans to be OAD.
I view it as similar to Coby's situation. The opportunity is there to start from Day 1 on a very good team. If he acquits himself like Coby did, then by all means, strike while the iron is hot. However, I would hope that he does not leave only to become a 2nd round pick when another season turns him into a 1st rounder.
But we'll worry about that later. Today is a good day, with many more to come.
Doubt Brooks will ever be a #1 draft pick. My read is the best he can hope for is a second round selection or makes it on a roster as a free agent. My definition of a "breakout year" is 14 ppg and 10 rpg and the development of a consistent 10-15 foot jumper.

My bad Deuce..sorry about that. No change. Bacot has told Roy that he plans to be OAD. It's really not a secret for us that have a Premium subscription.
Actually, the basketball staff, while not completely shocked, were very pleasantly surprised that he moved on a commitment as soon as he did.
Everybody was high fiving everyone else. While most expected him to go to dook, there were subtle signs from his dad and trainer that he wanted to go where he would be used properly, and he saw that UNC was the fit.
If you have not yet viewed his highlights, find them and do so now. If you liked Maye, then you will love this guy. At 7' 245lbs, he runs the floor like Tyler Zeller did. His highlights show that he can run with the ball up court almost like a PG. Has multiple post moves and can shoot out to the 3 point lines VERY effectively. We got us a stretch 4 guys. The only question that I have is: Can he guard an opposing stretch 4? Have to wait and see.

Actually Kessler hasn't given any indication of wanting to be OAD. The family genuinely cares about academics, so unless he just blows up as a frosh I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay to be a 2-3 year player.
One thing I love about the way Roy recruits...he gets huge frontcourt players, and our frontcourt is going to be big this year-- and absolutely massive next year. Of course they'll be talented to boot.

This is one of Roy's best skills. I hope it continues
Dirk, Markannen, Myles Turner, etc. He would be a 4 in our offense if playing with Sharpe or Brooks. Used very similarly to Luke. Whether he can guard fours is a fair question though.
Walton fits the bill as a pure shooter. If Cade does not commit, then RJ Davis can fit the role. RJ is a 45% 3-point shooter.
Puff would not be a bad option.
I do not think we are going to have a 7 footer playing the 4. Brooks is a 4 playing out of position as a 5 as of late and most think he will excel moreso when he goes back to playing with a 5.
Sharpe is 6 foot 10. I can't see him playing as a 5 over Kessler when playing together.
Kessler was a 5 in high school also as well as Sharpe.

On offense there is no doubt he will play the 4 as a freshman. They specifically pitched him on Luke Maye type usage. He's a really good three-point shooter. He's not going to bang inside so that Sharpe/Brooks can stand out at 15 feet. Granted, in our offense he will certainly get plenty of post touches but for all intents and purposes he's a 4.
On defense I'm sure it'll depend on the matchup. Kessler looks less agile to me than Brooks/Sharpe, so may get a lot of 5 assignments. If a school had someone like Bagley at 5 and Roy thought Sharpe/Brooks were the best way to stop him you can bet they'd be the ones defending him though. Kessler will have to guard some 4s I think.
This is correct. He’ll essentially flip from 4 on offense to 5 on defense. But he also has a nice offensive post game and is much bigger than “traditional” stretch 4s. He and Sharpe are going to be so formidable.
Well, you can argue that point with Roy, as he told him that was where he was going to be used, very similar to Luke May. I believe the young man said as much, no?
He could be Luke Maye usage and play the 5. Zeller set screens at UNC also. Kessler can set screens and still be a pick and pop player also on the perimeter off of them.
I don't see him hanging on the perimeter like Maye did at times though.
247 has three centers ranked as 5 Star players that will play in college next year. We have two of them!!!
I was going to say, Roy told him they will use him like Luke Maye, and I've read experts say his game fits perfect WITH Sharpes game
I haven't kept up with any basketball recruiting for 2 years, maybe 3. Is this Kessler the son of either Chad or Alec Kessler? Both were underrated, high quality, versatile Bigs for Georgia. They were both premier students, as in ready for top Med schools.
