Wake is better than State and blew Miami out in Winston.
Had it not been a 20-0 run to start the 2nd half, you would have lost to both in the HS gym. We'll see how they do Saturday.
Oh yeah about half of them are ready to drag Capel out by his ear, and the other half are searching stubhub for NIT tickets.
This, been watching this for to many years to count duke out knowing K will be back by the time we play them. I can and do hope the implosion continues but I know better than to bank on it, especially when we play them.
Mojo is a funny thing, just when you think all the stars are aligned, the wheels can fly off. Look at all the crazy top 20 losses from just this week, look last night where 3 of the top 4 all lost. Duke does have a flaw in the way this team was put together, they do not have a PG and they rely far to much on inexperienced freshmen to lead the way. Now we have seen them win, we have seen them win with each of these issues in the past, sad to say we have even seen them win Nattys with both of these issues. But they have them both at the same time now and for a few more games they do not have K on the side lines to do his thing. They have dug a rather deep hole already that they can not really afford to get any deeper.
If the hole they have for themselves gets much deeper then best they can hope for is a much harder seeding than they are used to having to play thru in the NCAAT. And I do think the recruiting world is looking on, this so far has been a gross under achievement for such a balyhood freshman class and now a team with real chemistry issues.
Thou I do think they will get much better, look where things are right now from a recruiting perspective. Giles NBA stock is sliding not because of injuries but because of his lack luster play, Tatum NBA stock is sliding, Bouldin is sliding, Jackson is kind of non-existent, and the tripster has gone from top 5 to "why the heck did I come back". And Knox & bamba still have not picked a school? That huge selling point isn't really working out as pitched ...
Yepp. If anyone gambles take dook in the game k returns as well as the next two or three. They'll be runnin around like their hair's on fire. They wont go far in the tourney though. U can only ride emotion so far. Somehow they'll beat us once. Seems to be our destiny lately

I wouldn't bet on that either. They won't be what they've been (of course not because what they've been is arguably the best program of the last 30 years) but they won't become irrelevant either. I see them continuing to be a tournament team year in and year out with a shot every now and then at a deep run.
I simply thought Duke would be really really good because they returned a NPOY preseason fav along with Kennard and Jefferson (2 All ACC type players) and 2 of the top 3 ranked incoming freshman.
But I guess since other people thought Duke would suck, this isn't even considered a disappointment for them.
Perhaps you could cite even one poster who said they thought dook's team would suck this year. I seem to remember everyone saying they would be very hard to beat out as ACC champs. But no, we're certainly not disappointed that dook is struggling. Are you disappointed?
I'm assuming SJunk is a little disappointed, but for real disappointment UNC would need to win the Natty!
ratty is an awesome coach and he might be able to mitigate puke's issues, but you would need Gandalf to fix Tatum, Jack the Tripper, having only 6 peeps on their team, and injury!

I've been personally losing a lot of sleep over Duke losing more games than people expected them to. In my world, the earth has stopped spinning.

That's so him. And I haven't been over to DI but I would bet a year's salary they're all over there saying "hell yeah,...make these guys understand what a privilege it is to wear the duke uniform".
Agreed. It is soooo him. He's been out for weeks and now he's going to come back in and start ruling with an iron fist as if they suck all because they're not respecting the honor of playing for him and the duke program. I mean, the idea that they might have been lost without their head coach who choose the middle of the season to take care of a problem he could have just as easily taken care of at some other time (before or after) is foreign to him.
K is a great, great, great basketball coach...that I wouldn't let my kid play for.
I wonder whose bright idea it was for Capel to sit Grayson "trippy" Allen, Amile Jefferson and Dennard at the beginning of the game against the Wusspack?....Felt all along this season that Dennard was the Dookies best player.....Not a good resume builder for Capel thus far!

Not shocked K would do something like this. Maybe there's more problems going in that locker room than we thought. Either way, it's a mess.
'Kay is a sociopath. Cut from the same cloth as Bobby KrazyHorse Knight, but MUCH MUCH smarter and somewhat more in control of his public actions.
I have no doubt Duke will be a very good team by years end. Most all their present problems will go away and the freshmen will be more like sophomores by that time.
But this latest directive from Coach K seems like a gimmick he can point to later when the team improves. Like he's setting himself up to be the hero. Reminds me of when my beloved father took the car away from me for a bumper stratch causing more trouble than it helped. Even he admitted that. Maybe Coach K is still on the pain meds and is "constipated" as he sure seems full of himself.
No doubt the team will get its act together however. Better take them very seriously.

How is banning wearing Duke apparel a punishment? Most of those kids are probably grateful.
I think this entire melted down, underachieving bunch of bs is funny as hell and it could not happen to a more deserving bunch of narcissistic pricks/prickettes (ugly ones at that), and that includes the entire team, staff, nerdy ass student body and fans. Hope their incoming recruits and recruiting targets get a good dose of life as it is and will be in The Barn. jmho

That was totally my take on this as well! You stepped away, you handed the job to capel so you could take care of your back issues. You told Capel, you are the coach now and yet in what I see as being very disrespectful toward his coach, he takes charge of the ship and calls the players to his home to dictate their punishment? In doing so he sends the crystal clear message that he has no faith in Capel being able to have the answers or know what to do. Rather than call Capel in and give him advise on how to handle this, he tosses Capel aside like yesterdays garbage? It just says to me that K has zero faith in Capel as a coach and isn't as if that team needs to see that lack of faith in Capel when they have to many other negative things to work thru?
