Women's Basketball

Just noticed from USA Today that Trayanna Crisp formerly from Arizona State will be joining the women's basketball team to replace the scoring loss of Deja Kelly and Paulina Paris. She averaged 12 points per game last season with a high of 23 points and 7 rebounds versus Washington.

Good pickup, need some more wings since the center position is in good hands, along with the guard positions.

Injuries' have been an issue with the guards over the past several season, let's hope that they can stay healthy which could elevate this team to a new heights. The front court should be good with some new players but inexperience, expect them to improve as the season progresses.

Watch clips of her (Destiny Jackson) and came away impressed with her ability. Not only her outside shooting, but her ability to penetrate to the basket and absorb contact and still make the shot. The women's team issue over the past several season is keeping PG's healthy, there has been moments when at least two of them have been on the injury list for most of the season. Let's hope she join the women's team, would be a great addition.

Well Destiny Jackson committed to Illinois, on to the next one. She probably looked at the PG's in front of her decided to go where there is less competition for a starting spot.

Don’t want to post something that isn’t allowed here but man I would love to see UNC play Oregon this year after what I just read on Twitter!!!

Yes it was and cliff note version of story was how she carried and put the program where it is now for last 3 years!!!

Granted she had some talent and contributed to the program, but how can a player carry a team when they shoot 30 times a game, without involving their teammates. There was some games where she shot less than 20% on her field goals attempts. Not to down grade her because she left, but her defense was never special. Wish her success at Oregon and nothing but the best, it was time for her to move on. Pretty sure Banghart did not try to talk her out of decision to move on.

Yeah, I read some of that. I'm not sure if she was intending to hate on UNC and/or make herself look like a great player, but she didn't do either. She came across as someone who was just whining and thinking she's better than she is. I wish her luck, but it was a bad look.

Looking at the roster this season, this team will be more competitive with Kelly moving on. There will be more of a team concept, and they could surprise some teams. With Stanford joining the conference, they will probably be the odds on favorite that everyone will be chasing.

Noticed that Banghart has another commitment from a Top 100 player ( Taissa Queiroz) ranked as the 76th overall player a 4 star wing from Santa Rosa, CA. Based upon the clips which I reviewed of her, she could become an excellent player for UNC. That's 3 recruits for 2025, not sure if there will be anymore.

Is it me or does it always seem like the women fail to show up in big statement type games year after year. Lost again to UConn tonight.

Watched the game tonight against UCONN and UNC women's team. Incredible game which was played in Greensboro. Unfortunately they lost to the number 2 team in the country, failing 69 to 58. Carolina went over 5 minutes in the 4th quarter without scoring. What was amazing about this team is they play tremendous defense, and they played most of the game with their young players on the court. Ustby and Donarski were basically a non factor, neither one played to their potentials. But one thing worth noting is Carolina has a lot of young talent on this team, and the future is bright. This Carolina team will be a tough out for anyone going forward, not only in the ACC but the NCAA tournament.

Congrats to UNC women's basketball team for winning the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis Championship. They beat a high scoring and good team Indiana, final score 69 to 39. Held Indiana to 18 second half points, this team Banghart has assembled plays outstanding defense. The guards are constantly harassing opposing guards, and creating turnovers. Ustby was named the MOP of the tournament, these were not some weak teams which they were able to defeat. They beat Ball State 63-52 which is probably the highest rated mid level team, Villanova 53- 36 who will probably be right behind UCONN in the Big East.. The freshmen are contributing with Toomey and Thomas in the post, and grant at PG. The most points this team has surrender was 69 points to UCONN in their only lost on a neutral court. With their 7 games they have play so far this season they are holding the opposition to an average of 49.4 points a game. They are playing exceptional well as anyone, with the possible exception of ND who is projected to be a final four team this year with their guard combo.

Congratulations to the UNC women's basketball team, they beat number 14 Kentucky 72-53 tonight. Currently they have a record of 8-1, and are playing a stingy defense on their opponents. They are holding their opponents scoring to around 50.8 points a game. Kentucky women with their star studded team was no match for the UNC women, they gave Kentucky women their first lost of the season. One other note of interest they outscored Kentucky women 42-10 in the paint, this team has the potentials to make the final four this season, providing there are no injuries.

Can they give the men's team some tips on how to play defense?

Thought about that as well, maybe Banghart would be invited to the men's practice sessions. LOL!! The women team is playing extremely well as a cohesive unit on offense and defense, their only weakness is FT shooting, if they can improve on that they will be awesome.

Well UNC women lost at home to GT today, 82-76 score. Wanted to revisit the post above on December 7th about FT shooting, this was one of the contributing factors in the lost. GT made 89% of their FT's, and UNC only made 62 % of their (13-21) from the FT line. Second issue which lead to their lost was the rebounding, lost the battle 41-24 which GT was embarrassing them on the offensive glass earlier in the game. Third UNC only made 45% of the FG's and GT made 52% of theirs.
There was one thing which they did which was outstanding, they only had 8 turnovers for the game, and turned 17 GT turnovers into 22 points. In summary Banghart has some teaching to do after this game, especially on boxing out on rebounding, and they need to work on their FT shooting, that could mean the difference between winning some games, and losing some games. This team has a high ceiling, have a lot of young players in the post, and some transfers who are jelling as the team moves forward.
