lol, welcome aboard....like I need something else to get shown up in. Are you terrible at this too? I hope you're not as terrible as you are in Wordle. I had to look up 'terrible' in the dictionary to make sure I didn't have it upside down with 'really very good'.

I hope you keep playing here. It get's lonely on some of those islands I've never heard of and have no idea where they are.

I enjoy this because I am actually interested in Geography. If you get into it a little, there are country name and location quiz kinds of things that are simple and interesting on their own but can also be helpful with Worldle.

At some point, you know I'll try tp pick your brain about any strategeries you might empluy.

Ha ha! If my performance on my first attempt is any indication of my proficiency in this, I’ll be pretty bad at it. Also, I know when they start asking for pacific island and African nations I’ll be headed for failure because I simply don’t know them.

Let me ask you one thing that I probably already know is taboo. If you get down to your 6th try and you’re still stumped, can you pull up a map to try to match it?

I'm glad you asked about pulling up the map because there have been no rules established for either this or Wordle. You play however you want to, and I'm not going to ask you if you used what might be considered trickery. There's nothing at stake here but at the same time, just for consistent levels of success between participants, it wouldn't hurt to say what is considered 'cheating'.

So since you asked, the way I play is to not ever pull up a map or any other aid. I take full advantage of the distance cues though. Very often when faced with a completely unfamiliar country, I'll just pick a starting point, a country that is well situated in my mind, and start closing in from there. That might lead you to the right country which you then recognize, but if not at least it might get you to where you can make a better guess.

This is educational. If you want to go to a map, that might be a better way of locking a country in place in your mind. I can see nothing wrong with that. There have been plenty times that I go to a map after I've bombed out, just to see where stuff is for general purposes.

I think I do fairly well with continental countries (Africa maybe not so much). Those islands though, they do me in as often as not. Same strategy though. If I think I'm dealing with the Caribbean, e.g., I might take Barbados as a starting point because I know about where it is. If it ends up being elsewhere, I still have a useful starting point to work from.

I know I'm telling you what you already know, but that's what you get for asking me. Har har.

Just saw your post, finally. Yes, in the spirit of fair competition (not necessarily with each other but the game) I think it would be more fun not to use outside sources.

I might want to check you out on this one. I didn't recognize the entity either, but I was able to eliminate the nearby prospects. I guess I'll just put it this way....if you need a starting point for a country you don't have even the first clue about, think about our old friends, the Stans. Another good one is the Central African Republic. It's in the very center of Africa of all places..

Good advice. I was searching in the continents you mentioned but was not in the central areas. I'll definitely do that next go round.

I hope you don't mind too much me butting in when you didn't ask for my advice, but I could tell from the pattern of your results that all you needed in this case was a little push in the right direction. It was just a tip, it's not like I think you need me telling you how to play.

A little back and forth jibber jabber can be helpful. Fer instance, I sort of owe my Wordle onesie to @prlyles because he mentioned a starting word that I hadn't thought of using but that I then started occasionally using in streaks, and it ended up ringing the bell for me. Thank you prlyles.

this was nuts. There was MAYBE a dot the size of a speck of dust between two vertical lines. So I took a stab just to see if there was really a game on my screen and I somehow got close a few times before I ran out of names familiar to me. There was a place it turned out, but I wouldn't have guessed it in a million years.

@HookUNC75, please tell me if you had the same experience with the display of a dot hardly even the size of a period.. LOL.

Before I saw your post I thought that the game was not loading properly with just the little dot between the two vertical lines. So I left the game and came to this thread and saw your explanation above. I went back to the game and tried but like you I had never heard of this “country.”
