from a current events standpoint, that couldn't hurt, especially if you concentrate on hotspots. And if you are a history buff like me, tying the two in together enhances each. The Balkans are an almost perpetual hotspot, and they are currently back on the burner. or close to it. This was a bit of a tough one for me, even though I am roughly familiar with the shape, and with the general location of the country in question.

I might just be unusually weird, but I find geography interesting and always have. I think I posted here before that for my tenth BD, I asked for and got a globe and a wall map of the world. Woo hoo. I still have that globe, and a newer more up-to-date one as well. So I would suggest that in addition to the atlas, you also invest in a good globe because it gives you a much truer idea of what goes where and without the distortions of a map.. Plus it looks good in your den or office (I want one of those big fancy ones with the floor pedestal) and people (female ones especially) think you must be a man of the world. Guys will probably just think you're gay. Or I think they probably would think that. I'm sure that must be what they would think but f 'em if they can't take a joke, right? Har.

And don't forget those online geography quizzes. They definitely help, although after having done the Africa one over and over and over, I still can hardly find my way out of Zambia and over to Gabon. But at least now I know about where Zambia is. No idea about Gabon though.
