Now they want the Tar Heels name!

The casino is ran by a group of The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. What is your point? Yes I did ask if it was offensive!
He doesn't like it when you refer to them as Indians.

But TPFKASTPS or whatever his name is told me that minorities can identify however they like and we should not question that. I hope @dadika13 is not assuming how each and every indigenous person will identify. We’d have to cancel him.

Redskin is a racist term and has no other possible meaning! Braves, Warriors, Seminoles are examples of names highlighting pride possibly.
Not true at all. In fact, as a nickname/mascot, in that context, "Redskin" is exactly the same as Braves, Warriors, Seminoles, etc..

It means- The Red Man- The Indian, The indigenous people who were here before the Europeans arrived. They call/called themselves Red men, Redskin, etc.. They still use that reference! They used it because their skin was red by comparison to the pale/white skin of the Europeans. Europeans used the same reference. They were proud that they had red skin! They are still proud of it.

You can say "Paleface" and use it to be an insult, or a term of endearment. It all depends on HOW... YOU... USE... IT!

"Let us welcome our paleface brothers into our tribe"

"Fvck these paleface bastards telling us what is or isn't offensive to us!"

People are so worried about being politically correct they can't see the forest for the trees! That racial shame attempt failed!

I didn't name them that or call them that name on my own!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrah's_Cherokee#:~:text=Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort is,two casinos in North Carolina.
It's not bothering ME, man. When someone says they're an Indian, I think of Cherokee, or one of the other blank-hundred tribes of North American indigenous people. I don't think of Bombay or New Delhi, or anyone else from Hindustan.

You are questioning if I ask that question and that was the answer? I unlike you am not afraid to ask a question while not being afraid to be labeled a racist.

If you want answers you ask questions thats the difference in you and I! I ask the questions and find out for myself and don't just listen to what Fox, CNN or MSN tells be to believe!

Lol I don’t think anyone needs Fox or CNN to tell them that your casino story is bullshit.

They have their own flag and still have a chief his name is Chuck Hoskin Jr. Call his office and see if he is offended by that flag or being labels indians!

Why is that hard to believe? I have black friends and we have had very frank discussions about race relations in America why is this so hard for you to believe?

Maybe you are just jealous that you are a pussy and afraid of other men so much so you wouldn't even ask the questions!

Don't worry you will get off your moms tit and grow up one day!

If you actually walked around a casino asking random people what they think about the redskins name, that’s even more sad, lol.

Here's proof that "Redskins" isn't as inherently offensive and always a pejorative; Guilty, white liberals haven't created a euphemism for Redskins. They will write or say Redskins without the slightest pause.

I constantly hear "Redskins is like 'The N Word' and it's always offensive." That's absolutely false. One of my closest friends, and her mom (who are both UBER LIBERALS), had me over for dinner last weekend. The first thing she said was "What do you think about the Redskins changing their name?" I said, "How can you say that?" She replies "Say what?" I said "You said '... the Redskins changing their name." She was puzzled, and says "Well, aren't they?" I said "I dunno. But, you said 'Redskins', and never hesitated." She says "So?" I said, "Okay, say Niggger." Her mom gives a snide smile... and says "He got you there."

I never use the word "niggger" except to explain how just saying it, with no qualifier, is NOT racist. The word itself is totally innocent. And, Redskin(s) is the same way. If you use it with the intent to be cruel, or insulting, or malign someone, then it's "bad." I gotta say, I've rarely if ever heard the word Redskin used, in my entire life, when it wasn't being used to refer to the Washington Redskins... or some other sports team that used Redskins. When I was a kid, The University of Miami of Ohio were also the Redskins. I thought it was cool that they used the same name. It was a totally positive association.

The fans of the Braves, the Seminoles, the Indians, the Chiefs, the Warriors, the Redskins, the Illini, the Blackhawks... whatever-the-synonym... are supporting the team that they have chosen to support- for whatever reason- and they have no ill will toward the ACTUAL native tribes of the North American continent. In my case, it was sort of inherited, and I loved the Indian theme. I thought it was the coolest looking helmet logo. I still think it's by far the coolest helmet logo!

When did I say anything about being offended about asking a question? Lol I just think you’re a liar. Or maybe you’re just an obnoxious gambler that doesn’t know how to keep politics away from the card table.

Serious question though, did you finish high school?

There appears to be a fairly large group of Native Americans that think “redskins” is not only racist but Is the worst offender

That link won't let me read the article without subscribing to the site. I did try to read it, however. I'm not paying for a subscription.

I will say that, if "Redskins" and American Indian imagery is offensive, then remove ALL the teams that use it- Braves, Indians, Chiefs, Blackhawks, Warriors, Seminoles, whatever. If they believe it is damaging to their culture and history, then all teams have to drop the theme.

My apologies about the article, I was able to just click and read.

Yes. I believe without a shadow of a doubt that the Redskins made this decision because of the pressure they faced in this ridiculous culture of "change-anything-we-don't-like" that the left has created. You're right in that it's their team and they can choose to do whatever they want with the team name. Sure, I get that. And I'm free to boycott it, talk shit about it and anything else I want to do.

But here's the deal, this has moved the moderates further from the real cause. Moderates who might have been an ally before or at worst, sat on the sideline, are now mobilized against those with the phony indignation. This situation harms the next real situation. The Bubba Wallace fiasco hurts future reaction to real racial situations. Does the left not understand that? Or is it that the left wants the racial strife? I'm honestly curious as to your opinion on this. Is it stupidity or something more nefarious?
Sometimes the planets align and you made a good point. I am as old as dirt and I have seen these kind of causes come and go most having some real problems that need correcting but almost without fail, they go overboard in some areas. This one is no exception, but most of the time they will settle down somewhere in the middle.

I know plenty of Republicans who downright hated that name.

I hesitate to throw this debate into the left vs. right bucket.

And those Republicans are morons just like the Democrats that believe the name is offensive. This is definitely not a right vs left thing. This is a "common sense" vs "desired victimization" thing.

Again, just like the black community, I'm sure the Native American community are so thankful they have a 40-something white guy to tell them what's offensive and not offensive to their own people.

Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you for your service.

Or maybe they just need someone to say that "we don't really care if it offends you." I mean, that's what I'd do.

You're welcome.

Kinda like how most of us feel when you won't wear a mask?
.

Right. My not wanting to wear a mask has had no impact on the mandates.

Just like the name Redskins offending you shouldn't have any effect on them keeping it.

Or more relevant is them not caring about people who don’t find it offensive and changing it anyway.

But in all reality, we both know they only changed it cuz FedEx and Nike pulled out of deals with them and it was going to cost them a ton of money. So it really doesn’t matter what any of us think, most organizations follow the money. We are pointless in this.

Sure. Ok. But the point is then,...why do Fed Ex and Nike feel obligated to act like they care?

They probably had their PR firms do some research on their customers to find out how much they care. Since they pulled out, I'm guessing that the PR firms found that their customers wanted the name changed in majority.
