Late stuff (Elon game)...

As good as Bacot was with his double doubles and being the all time leading rebounder, he isn't the end all, be all type player. He was a below the rim player who rarely showed up against athletic bigs. Lubin may not be 6'10 but I feel like he makes up his height with his athleticism. To me, he can get higher than Bacot could. Lubin is also very strong. I think Lubin should start ahead of Washington based off what I seen the first game, but again, let's try not to judge too hard after one game.

Also, by the end of the season I think James Brown can be a big help
JWash has to be out there but he needs ot get way more assertive looking for his mid range jumpers. What is happening now is he is drawing his defender out from the deep paint and that has been opening up a lot of Seth's and Cadeau's offense. As this season moves forward I think it will open up things for Cappy and Drake as well. I think we will begin to see a lot more drop played by opposing centers on us and when we do JWash is wide open for his shot if he looks for it as he should.

We have Kansas on deck, I am interested in how Self defends JWash, Dickerson I think will step out with him but I suspect Budinga will play drop most of the time to slow down those paint drives from Cadeau and Seth, we will see. I would start JWit at the 4 and Jwash at the 5, with the Seth, RJ, Cadeau back court. That Elon zone was geared to jam up the paint and it did in that second half, don't know that Self will play much zone.

It certainly looks like we have a deep bench, but it isn't clear how good it is up front. I'm willing to be patient, and hope the kinks work out and a couple of guys step up. But who knows? You can be patient and still raise issues. Patience ≠ silence.

Obviously we can't change how the recruiting turned out. But it's hard to dispute that we missed on several top targets up front. Was it just money? Was it something else? Either way, how do we do better in the next portal and the current recruiting class? The how we do better question is legit.
I do not disagree...

Hubert seems to me to be on the verge of a fantastic playing style and the absolute key to it is playing a VERY deep bench, I think we can go 11 deep with James Brown and Claude getting a few minutes. At to many times in the more recent past we would find ourselves in a 4 around 1 or 3 around 2 offensive attack. At best we have consistently had a min of 1 guy defenses could back off of and dare to shoot while they doubled a more dangerous shooter. WE have played far to much half court since Hubert took over, that is a problem when you are not bringing in those broad shoulder physically intimidating big men that control the boards. The way Hubert wants to play depends on speed and quickness, very high tempo, and solid jump shooting. To do that for 40mins means you MUST play a really deep bench or you burn your players legs.

The cool part is, I think this is a style of offense that big time players will want to play in, they have to see it successfully played for a season and post season. That not only helps us retain our returning guys but it draws the better talents from the portal and high school. It is a bit of a mix between how Houston plays and how UConn plays but doing it with a much deeper bench.

Other ACC Games Week 11

Getting into the home stretch.

This week opens Friday night with Cal in dead last place in the ACC at 0-4. The four losses are by a combined total of 9 points. Cal is then 4-0 in OOC play, including a 44-7 total beat down of former Pac rival Oregon St. If the Pac still existed, Cal would be among the top half of that league hands down.

Cal goes to Wake which is also 4-4 but is 2-2 in the ACC. This game is very important for both programs as they angle for bowl eligibility and then for Spring and then 2025.

On Saturday, we have 6-2 (3-2) Syracuse at 4-4 (1-3) BC. The Orange are bowl eligible but want more than the lowest tier bowl. The Eagles do not want Avery promising start to the season to end run no blow or even the worst bowl possible.

9-0 (5-0) Miami plasy at Bobby Dodd. The Yellow Jackets like BC have seen a very promising start begin to fizzle and now are 5-4 (3-3). If Haynes King can play at full health, GT could pull the upset.

Then we have one of those Can Space Aliens Just Capture Both of Them contests. 6-3 (2-3) Dook hops over to Carter-Finley to rub elbows with the 5-4 (2-3) Fightin Wufs.

6-2 (5-1) Clemson tries to regroup in Blacksburg vs. 5-4 (3-2) VT. The loser will feel his season officially ruined.

1-8 (1-7) FSU gets the big game on NBC vs the 7-1 Irish who still expect to make the playoff.

7-1 (3-1) Pitt hosts 4-4 (2-3) UVA. Pitt still has an outside shot at the playoffs, so this game is huge for the Panthers.

With the strength of my blue glasses, I don't remember a single recruiting "issue" since we recovered from the false narrative about fake classes! BUT I try to understand that peeps feel differently about many things like this and the value of advanced metrics!

When I see a potentially 10 deep roster that every pundit feels will contend for ACC and National Championships, I find it hard to find recruiting fault!

Elon did raise some questions AND it also answered some! I focus on positive elements like EC & Seth's shooting, and The team winning on an off night by RJ and the team showing enough grit to come back and win going away!
LOL, TP, you are with out doubt a glass half FULL guy so much so that at times (not often) I can't get there with ya. Others at times are clearly glass half empty as example the chappel nut job (you are not as extreme as he is). I try really hard to be that liquid in the glass is up to about the half way point, means I will dip my toes at times on either side looking for a net zero. I have great respect for those gall half full folks like you, I have very very little respect that are always gloom and doom. How ever, when we are involved in an individual topic discussion, I may be positive or negative on that individual topic. I want to neither keep my head buried in the sand or scream constantly the sky is falling.

I can't help but look at our last portal season, at least for now as well as how 25 high school recruiting has gone as being full of misses. I don't know how they can be defined any other way? I look at our roster right now and can't help but think, what if we got Aidoo, Omouryi, or (the big man from Stanford) Raymound, all 7footers,.. As opposed to a trio of 6'7" guys in Lubin, Tyson, and Claude? Getting any of the 3 we would have been in my mind a final 4 team, now, I just don't know, it is a harder path.

Some quick notes leading into KU...

...and I don't normally do this, but scanning some of the chatter it seems appropriate. Make of it what you will...

First and foremost, let's be real here --- winning at the Phog anytime (not to mention this early) is a herculean task (ask the rest of the Big 12) as it is arguaby the best homecourt advantage in basketball --- so if we're gonna pull it off or at least give it a good shot, here's what I would like to see in the wake of looking closely at our opener and exhibitions:

- I dunno if KU will look at the film and Zone us (which in itself flies in the face of normal), but IF they or anyone else does go Zone, our frontcourt trio should be Tyson, Powell and Wash operating in the attack "triangle" in our Zone Offense. The have the desired length and hands, and Powell looked the best operating out of the duck-in pivot. All three are offensive threats in any of the areas.

- JWash needs to be made a triggering part of the offense as opposed to a cleanup guy. Now, for clarity I don't mean back-in posting on the blocks like Kennedy Meeks --- I'm talking about getting him the rock in the scoring spots around the mid-post "triangle" 7-10 feet out, giving him options for either face-up action, turn-arounds or kick-outs. And supplement that with downscreen action for 3 pt looks. Bottom line is IF we make him an active participant Dickinson CANNOT guard him.

- The above approach affords the added benefit of a (missing) INSIDE-OUT game in half-court offense. As Dean taught us, so much of basketball is Applied Geometry, and you can only accomplish so much by moving the ball around a defense and looking for cutters.

- To the last point, the only thing that worked in Freelance was having a PG who can make somethng outta nothing. That should be a luxury as opposed to a necessity.

- Be creative on D and don't allow deep inside isos... and max-effort to REBOUND!!! It is key to transition.

Lets talk about sleep

Did you know the gauge to measure track width was the same they used for wagon wheels which was brought over from England for their carriages which is based on the ruts left from Roman chariots? WAKE UP WAKE UP THIS IS THE BEST PART
Furthermore, since it was going to be transported by train the shuttle boosters had to fit through train tunnels so the space shuttle design was partly based on Roman chariot ruts.
I love this stuff. Thank you. And I was awake for the whole thing, no naps or dozes or anything.

OOTB's Political Thread . ..

I'll give you that it's super early to revisit this topic and he should let the shine of the win diminish a bit before the past election gets explored once again, but the irony of this complaint from you is rich.

If Hillary gets to do Memoir Number 4, she'll do interviews to "bitch about the one we still lost [8] years ago!"

And the irony of this is thicker than cement. Again, I'll concede any discussion about the prior election can wait (although there are some very, very interesting observations to be made in comparing some things/trends). But you never stop arguing over an event that ended 159 years ago and you want to tell @bluetoe to move on. That's some funny stuff.

There will be all kinds of observations made about the breakdown of how Trump won this thing. Trends and comparisons to the prior election loss and the win in the one before that are natural and part of that process. Making observations about things like crazy, unusual turnout shouldn't be off the table or verboten to speak of just because one doesn't agree with the idea of some conspiracy or less than appropriate actions. Particularly in the absence of a compelling argument to explain something, there are always going to be theories to fill that void.
sometimes there's a little more to my posts than meets the eye. I pledged to not needle anyone unless they asked for it. But those who popped back up with their tails tucked humbly between their legs received praise for doing so, and that bothered me a little because I hate the pretense. So I wanted to counter by showing that a zebra can't change it's stripes. It doesn't take much provocation for those stripes to come out.

I haven't gone back and looked to be certain, but have we heard at all from @joeydavid ? I'm afraid peewee may have done something in the category of self harm. He's probably just still processing how he could have been so wrong. Talk about being all in.
I think he's probably processing what a huge mistake coming back here would be for him.

Lets talk about sleep

I get the sentiment, but I've never understood that saying. I don't know about you, but the babies I've been around in my life only had phases where they were good sleepers. More often, it was fitful and interrupted. That's why I said in my post way above that on that one occasion, I had "slept like a teenager." Guess I could also have said "slept like a college student".
I picked up on that and I thought you nailed it. The sleep I experienced as a teenager was what sleep is all about.

Also, I remember Hurricane Fran when it came through Raleigh, and trees were coming down all around my house. A huge pine had come down and basically cleaved my neighbor's house in two. There were several more really big ones that I was concerned about. My teenage boy was asleep upstairs and I made him come down and sleep on the sofa. That lasted about 15 minutes and he said F this and went back to his own bed with no mind whatsoever to the howling wind and falling trees and my pleas for his safety. He slept like a bab...teenager and the next day he was basically like 'what storm?'..
