Late stuff (dook game 2)...

i get it --- the games are won and lost on paper.
Well how Cadeau and Trimble have shot on the court displays that they're inefficient and unwilling 3PT shooters on paper.

How opponents have shot 3s against them on the court displays that they're a bad 3PT defensive team on paper.

Yes, these 2 things can be connected. Unless you believe that Seth and Cadeau are better shooters than they've shown during games, then the paper is merely the reflection of what they've shown in games.

Carolina should NEVER play in the NIT or anything other than the NCAA tournament - IMO.

I do not want a subpar season performance to become normalized, standardized, celebrated, or remotely accepted. If we are not good enough to make the NCAA tournament, that should be a wrap on our season.

There is absolutely no upside, other than a few more games for fans to watch mediocre basketball, for Carolina to go to the NIT. Best case scenario, we win the tournament. Can anyone, without cheating, tell me who has won the last two or three at nit championships?... Me neither. Worst case scenario is we lose to Nobody State University in the first or second round and further entrench the mediocrity and negativity currently attached to our program.

We are Carolina and we HAVE to be better than this.

This year with no bigs, I would watch us in NIT, and be happy if we won it. This team is not a bad team at all, we just have no quality bigs on team.

Remember our 6 game winning streak, I like our chances against a NIT field. This team has not given up playing, the last team that declined NIT was done playing and you could see it.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think it would be a good look if we won NIT, we have more 5 stars coming in. Powell could come back. We should look attractive to forwards in the portal, who know they are going to play.

I am not mad at this team, a couple of years ago, I was mad watching that team. NIT/NCAA I'm watching this team

Games aren't won and lost on paper, but saying "they don't play the games on paper" is what talking heads say when a seriously inferior team somehow rises up and beats a clearly proven superior team on a lucky given magical day ....hitting on that one or two games out of ten that the inferior (UNC) wins against the superior (Duke, etc).

To say any team "can beat another team" on any given day.... sure... you see upsets a few times a year. But IF this Heels team makes the NCAA tourney (I highly doubt it) - they would make it as a 10-12 seed most likely, maybe even needing to play in to get to 64. Then they'd be the underdogs in each of their prospective 6 games. So what? Maybe if the stars align they win one of those games, or two at most? You don't get the magic lightning strikes 6 or even 3 games in a row.

I mean other teams can go on hot streaks like NCSU did last year, but those teams had a key go to factor that is hard to beat, and they got hot at the right time. This UNC team has neither.

They are 1-11 in Quad 1. Think about that. If they were tournament worthy, they should have found a way to win a few more of those games. I guarantee that anyone here looking at a blind resume of who Team A has beaten (6 wins recently against horrible ACC teams) - and 1 - 11 in Quad 1, there is NFW you would give them a second look for the tourney, if the team were any other than UNC. That's how the committee has to look at it. UNC doesn't get bonus points for being a blue blood, past tourneys, "Hubs is a nice guy", gate / TV draw, etc. It just doesn't work that way, IF the team totally whiffs in beating ANY legit opponents.

My guess is this team loses on maybe Wed, but for sure Thurs or Fri. A big part of that is - I just don't see Hubs doing anything to outcoach or out-motivate his team vs. the opponents. I don't sense he brings much to the table regarding pre-game or in-game strategy, analytics, taking advantage of areas of superiority, hiding or diminishing weakness areas. And the fact that they can't defend, can't shoot against good defense, and can't rebound, doesn't bode well for them against legit opponents. Some of that is lack of size and interior big man skill, other is lack of coaching up the guys we do have.

I’m not suggesting it should be based on whether I want to have more games to watch-it should be much smarter than that. And if the choice is watch a mediocre team play two meaningless games or go harder towards fixing things that’s an easy choice. It’s much easier than understanding that having them flame out against ND on Wednesday in spectacular fashion could end up being better for the program in the long run, but there is clearly an argument for that as well.

A few days in NIL/portal land could be enormous.
I get what you're saying but with all the new staff on board, I don't think it's a binary choice. It's not either go to the NIT or do well in the portal. It's go to the NIT and do well in the portal.

If I'm right, that means we fans get to enjoy watching our team play more games. It could also be good for the future careers of a few of our players. All without hurting our chances next season.

Now if we have some players who don't want to play in the NIT - maybe they're in a hurry to enter the portal, or try out overseas - and that doesn't leave us with a credible team, that could change my thinking. It might affect whether we get that NIT offer, as well.

Women's Basketball News (Updated 4/15/25 Commitment - Elina Aarnisalo, UCLA; Utsby to LA)

Wish we could convince Aaliyah Chavez to come to UNC. We could definitely use her. We have 2 top 30 players but no pg.
She's not leaving the state of Texas, if she does the only other school in play will be Oklahoma. Based upon what I have read she is very close to her family, and her NIL deal is somewhere around 1.5 to 2.0 million dollars according to some reports.
