Big Question Now

The last 6 teams beat don't even sniff consideration for the big dance. Beat all convincingly though, and people are prisoners of the moment. Blowing out VA. Tech on the road helps, certainly helps the optics of a "hot team".

A ton of key games with similar teams on the bubble tonight, and this weekend in legit conferences, and they all have much tougher collective opponents, playing each other in many cases. Playing dook, (who are playing great) to a competitive game I think will solidify the narrative UNC needs going into the ACC tourney, which like it or not is a weak group.

Long winded take it helps in the sense to make the argument. In the numbers, not so much. Go Oregon !!!!

Carolina vs Virginia Tech game thread on Tuesday 4 March 2025

Another game of phenomenal offensive stats.
  • FG -> 59%
  • 3FG -> 54% (!)
    • 3PT volume - accounted for half of the team's shots. But given the positive of the offensive stats, hard to argue against it.
  • EFG -> 72% (!!!)
  • TS% -> 72% (!!!)
  • Only 12 FTA, but they made 10. Didn't watch the game, but not unusual to have a lower stat when 3PT volume is up
  • Offensive Efficiency: Another game of 130+. Only ~ 68 possessions too.
    • 6-game avg of 133.7
  • 5th game in a row of 5+ in double-figures
  • A/TO ratio was 1.84/1. The first 25 games of the season it was 1.29. Over the last 6, the average is 1.67
    • Turnovers were high (13), but this just makes the offensive efficiency even-more astounding, especially given the average of 4 less possessions over the last 6 vs. the first 25
    • EC was 12/3
  • 73% Assisted Field Goals
    • Highest metric of the season; only 7th time this year where it has been above 60%. First since the Wake game (??? true though)
  • 46 (!!!) bench points - highest of the season (did IJ come off the bench?)
Rebounds
  • Another 10+ rebound margin game (5 games in a row). Is Roy wearing a Hubert Davis mask?
    • Also will mention that because of their FG metrics, there were naturally less opportunities for offensive rebounds.
  • Another game where they grabbed 54% + of all rebound opportunities
    • 5 in a row now of that too. Prior to, the most consecutive games in a row where they were 50+% was 3.
Defense
  • Defensive Efficiency metric of 88. Lowest allowed since the GaTech game
  • 10 steals. Most since game vs. Florida
  • Held VT to 41% on 2FG.
