Very Quick stuff (Pitt game - ACCT)...

...and this will be REAL quick...

Look, I purposely waited for the other game to finish, and this will be quick, because I am annoyed at what I saw tonight.
JEEZUS H!....

- We CANNOT revert back to hero-ball. That will NOT get us to the promised land... PERIOD.

- RJ and Mando stepped up, but let's get real ---- Pitt is the least of our challenges going forward.

- Jeez at the officiating --- what is happening here?? Teddy once again the best zebra??? Groover has devolved into a younger Jamie Luckie --- SMDH.

- Good news is adapting and giving it right back,

- Great adjustment by the staff on our switches 1 thru 5... we totally stymied Hinson, BUT... their Guards were unconscious,... great to have a Big like Mando who can guard perimeter guys, but the big deal there was being able to defeat "mismatches"...

- JEEZUS..Hubert... get a grip ---- up 4 under 2 minutes with the rock??? --- THREE timeouts left??? --- CALL a TO and GET CADEAU BACK IN!!!!!!! wtf???? Oh, and also before halftime... PLEASE don't revert to the past... PLEASE!!!! And please tell Ingram to stop trying to "bust out" thru traffic. He is NOT Theo Pinson in that regard,

Anyway... F*** State... but they are a dangerous team who have ONE PATH to the NCAAT!! Our future runs thru playing TRANSITION BASKETBALL!!! Please stop playing not to lose... That's it for tonight...

MARCH 15, 2024
CAPITAL ONE ARENA
WASHINGTON, D.C.

UNC Scoring Leader:
RJ Davis 25
UNC Rebound Leader: Armando Bacot 11
UNC Assist Leader: Seth Trimble 4
Team Records: Carolina 27-6, Pittsburgh 22-11

• Carolin advances to the ACC Tournament championship game for the first time since 2016 and a record 36th time in 71 seasons.
• Carolina has won 18 ACC Tournament titles.
• The Tar Heels are 36-18 in the semifinals, 6-1 in Washington, D.C., 53-15 as a No. 1 seed and 17-8 against No. 4 seeds in the ACC Tournament.
• Carolina trailed at halftime (by two) for the first time since March 2 at home vs. NC State (trailed by eight and won, 79-70).
• The Tar Heels are 8-3 this season when trailing at the half (17-22 in Hubert Davis’ three seasons).

• Carolina won in the ACC Tournament semifinals for the first time in four tries (won its 35th semifinal game in 2016 then lost in 2019, 2021 and 2022).
• Carolina held Pittsburgh to 33.3% from the floor in the second half, the 35th time in 66 halves this season the opponents shot under 40%.(Pitt shot 26.5% in the second half in UNC’s win on Jan. 2)
• The Panthers shot 38.5% for the game, the 15th time in 33 games UNC held the opponent below 40% for the game.
• Carolina outrebounded Pitt, 44-34, the 22nd straight game UNC had more rebounds. The Tar Heels are 19-3 in those games.

• After Carolina took an 8-4 lead, Pitt scored 13 consecutive points. That 13-0 run matched the largest run by an opponent this season (also 13 by Florida State on Dec. 2 in Chapel Hill and 13 by Clemson in the Tigers’ win in Chapel Hill on Feb. 6).
• Pitt’s largest lead was nine points in the first half. That was the largest deficit UNC has overcome to win since NC State led by 10 on March 2.
• The Tar Heel trailed for 16:34, the longest UNC trailed in a win since Florida State led for 19:27 on Dec. 2.
• It was the third time this season and second time in three games (also at Duke) UNC won when only two players scored in double figures.
• Davis and Bacot combined to score UNC’s final 18 points.

• This was the 20th time Carolina held the opponent to 70 points or fewer 20 times this season and the 15th time under 70.
• It was Hubert Davis’ 76th win as UNC’s head coach. He is second among UNC coaches in their first three seasons (Bill Guthridge led UNC to 80 wins from 1997-2000).
• RJ Davis scored a game-high 25 points.
– Davis became the eighth Tar Heel ever to score 2,000 points (he has 2,000)
– it was the 20th time this season he scored 20 or more (most since Tyler Hansbrough had 21 20-point games in 2008-09)
– it was his 10th 25-point game, most since Hansbrough had 10 in 2008-09
– it was the 23rd time he led UNC in scoring this season and the 16th time he was the game’s leading scorer (both teams)
– it was the 38th consecutive game he made a three-pointer, the third-longest streak ever by a Tar Heel
– it was the sixth time this season he scored at least 20 points and did not commit a turnover
– he broke a 62-62 tie with a three-pointer with 4:03 to play
– made three 3FGs, the 29th time this season he made multiple threes
– became the second Tar Heel to make 100 or more 3FGs in a season...Davis has 102...the record is 105 by Justin Jackson in 2016-17

• Armando Bacot had 19 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.
– It was his 16th double-double of the season and the 84th of his career
– he tied Virginia’s Ralph Sampson for the second-most double-doubles in ACC history and the fourth-most in NCAA history
– he has 2,272 points, passing Virginia Tech’s Malcolm Delaney (2,255) and Maryland’s Juan Dixon (2,269) for 13th in ACC scoring

• Harrison Ingram was the primary defender on Pitt’s first-team All-ACC Blake Hinson. Ingram helped limit Hinson to two field goals, neither of which was a three-pointer. Hinson came into the game leading the ACC with 3.4 threes per game.
• Ingram had six rebounds and has 303 for the season. He and Bacot are the first pair of Tar Heels with 300 rebounds in the same season since John Henson and Tyler Zeller in 2011-12.
• Seth Trimble led Carolina in assists with four, the second time this season (Lehigh on Nov. 12) and second time as a Tar Heel he led UNC in assists.

UNC-Pittsburgh
• Carolina is 17-8 all-time vs. the Panthers, including 2-1 in the ACC Tournament (2-0 in Washington, D.C.).

Next Game
• ACC championship game, Saturday, March 16, vs. No. 3 seed Virginia or No. 10 seed NC State.

Great Team Win

This will be a tourney game to remember. Can't say enough about the total defensive effort combined with the team play last night. Heels showed toughness we have not seen in many years combined with leadership down the stretch. The bench played crucial minutes, and give Hubert credit for putting them in during crunch times, he stuck with the plan and the entire team responded. Pitt a well deserving team to receive an NCAA invite, and the Heels I believe earned that # 1 seed . Time to whip the pack and bring the next trophy home . Go Heels !

Pittsburgh vs Carolina game thread ACC semi finals on Friday 15 March 2024

This on paper looks like a battle of who can slow down the other teams offense. Pittsburgh looked good yesterday against Wake Forest as Hinson, Leggett and Carrington had no problems scoring on the demon Deacons soft defense. Hinson at 6’8 and Carrington at 6’5 like to post up and they should have no problems against the Carolina smaller guards. The Panthers have won 5 of their last 7 Games against Tar Heels so they will not be intimidated at all.

Trimble may get more time than usual because of his height and his ability to play in your face defense. Federico Federiko is 6’11 and he is a blocking machine so Bacot needs to try and get him in foul trouble. Yesterday afternoon Carolina has four people score in double digits and they will need that again today.

I feel unlike the slaughter of FSU I expect a close tough game to the very end with Carolina now more motivated because of the Tennessee lost to Mississippi State today prevailing late setting up a interesting show down with the winner of the state/ Virginia contest.
