• It was the seventh straight game UNC had more rebounds. The Tar Heels are plus 100 on the boards in those seven games.

Next Game: Monday, January 22, vs. Wake Forest, in Chapel Hill (7 p.m., ESPN)

How much more dangerous would Carolina be if Cadeau would look to score more when he drives instead of trying to force passes in the lane

Yes I know he is small player and he is just shooting free throws around 60 percent but he is so quick I feel he can go to the hole anytime he wants and try and score.

His outside shooting has also not been great but he needs to at least try a couple a game so that future opponents and defenders will not back off of him like they did to Leaky Black last season.

As I have mentioned before he kind of reminds me of Jimmy Black who also did not look to score that often but Black also had teammates of: Worthy, Jordan and Perkins who scored a ton of points so his scoring was not needed.

Cadeau is presently averaging a little over 6 points a game but I truly believe if he took more chances of going to the hole he could easily average closer to double digits just from the free throws he would earn.

Does anyone agree with me that he could be the X factor as Carolina faces the meat of their schedule in regards to ACC play…

Can RJ make it in the NBA?

One of our biggest questions at the end of the year will be "will he go or will he stay"? His height is always a concern, even in college. He is listed a as 6'0', 180 lbs. Guess who is a star in the NBA and is 6'1', 185 lbs! Steph Curry! Not to say RJ is the next Steph Curry, but there is a role for players that size who can shoot lights out from 3 pt land and drive to the basket. Just saying...

Boston College Prediction

One thing that i took into account is that BC's statistical numbers have really taken as plunge as has their record since they have begun ACC play. For example, their scoring average has dropped by nearly 19 points in the past three games while they have given up basically 9 more points per game. Boston College will slow the pace down maybe as many as eight possessions than what North Carolina usually plays. This Tar Heel team will be willing to do that. I think they are at their best is a grind when they are focused on each possession, and into defending rather than trying to outscore the opponent. The Eagles do have capabilities to make shots, although they'll have to be in a zone. If they slow it down, North Carolina is just too physical, and will pound them on the glass. I see a nice advantage for the frontcourt players. North Carolina 78 Boston College 71

Purdue has an offensive coordinator... for basketball

Thought this was an interesting piece, especially these parts:

“I just felt like I was making some decisions through subbing, through battling with officials, in play calling, to where they were kind of play calls out of emotion, if I’m framing that the best way,” Painter says. “And I just said, ‘You know what, I have to take a step back and get over myself a little bit here and do what’s best for our program, even though no one was really doing this like we are.’ I felt like I had to do that, and that was what was best for our program."

And here:

"Purdue’s playbook of nearly 150 plays is built on program-specific vernacular, memorized in the offseason and digested on the fly in games. The first word is the position players align in, with subsequent ones being specific actions in the play. Thompson has a call sheet with him on the bench to work through just as a football coordinator would and communicates the calls by writing them on a small whiteboard he flashes to his team as it runs up the floor for offensive possessions. Generally Purdue will go into a game with 20 to 25 calls it likes against the defense based on advanced scouting, but the entire playbook is open, if necessary, based on adjustments made by the defense. In all, Painter says 95% of the decisions get made before the game, then get installed in game seamlessly to avoid making “emotional” decisions."

Worth a read. It's been interesting to see the contrast from Roy to Hubert. Seems like Hubert calls out a lot more set plays now instead of Roy's read based motion than offense, especially in the 2nd half and end of games.

UNC System president, board could stop UNC, NC State from changing conferences

Posted Jan 19, 2024
UNC or NC State won't be able to leave the ACC without approval from the UNC System president and its board of governors under a proposal to be considered by the board next week. "I think Carolina and State ought to be in the same conference," said House Speaker Tim Moore. "I think you’d have a lot of resistance to them split off in different conferences." (WRAL Sports Fan)

Covid year benefits for this squad

We have a very old and experienced team for college ball. As much as it seems like Mando has been around forever, and he has, Cormac Ryan is a 25 year old grown ass man, a full year and a half older then Mando. RJ and Ingram are vetern 4 A type players as well, to use a baseball term.

I recall when we lost to Wisconsin in the 1st round, their starting 5 was older then The Chicago Bulls starting 5 that year, and that was pre Covid year. This is a seasoned talented group, with the next level talent types who will be above them eventually, that they face this year, still 18,19, or 20 years old and adjusting like Elliot is. The Covid year has been very good to UNC, especially since we missed the tournament that year anyway.

Quick stuff (Louisville game)...

...and that's how you create a "trap game" for yourself

Look guys --- it's late and that was not pretty, so I'll keep this very brief:

- This was so much about listless effort/intensity. That showed itself mostly on MISSING BUNNIES. That's the sort of nonsense that plagued us early in the season that I hoped we had gotten past. Sure, there was contact and a lame crew, but I lost count at a dozen blown finishes that were the sort we had been mostly converting during our recent good run.

- I liked that we started out scrambling to mitigate any let-down, but Lordy, we lost the initial energy once we went away from the early 44. Also, coasting set in after our early hot shooting threatened to make it a laffer.

- I figured Withers would step up vs his old team, and he certainly did --- best game as a Heel --- and a good thing, too...

- our guys STILL aren't consistently looking/anticipating passes, and Hubert, please, if you're gonna take that pre-half timeout, Cadeau needs to be in the game --- period. You're just wasting an opportunity otherwise.

- Finally, FORTUNATELY we rediscovered enough effort/intensity after the last under-8 to finally put this one away, but I'm gonna tell ya --- if we go up to BC with what we brought tonight, we're gonna get beat.

Anyway, that's all I got. These games happen, and I'd sure rather survive one than not. So, I'll take the W, but let's use this one as a learning experience from the players thru the staff, and get that effort/intensity mojo back as we're looking at the dreaded Saturday/Monday turnaround...

I cant wait til I retire

Im so fuggin sick of the politics in public education. Absolutely sick of it. The way some kids are protected and other kids arent given a shit about.

Last week, we had a kid threaten to come to school and shoot the school up if he got bad grades on his report card. This wasnt a rumor, he said it front of several students and a teacher. He has been in trouble multiple times this year and last year.

He ended up getting 5 days suspension and now he is back on campus. Students ask me why he is back after what he said. I plainly tell these kids..because the people in charge think his education is more important than the safety of anyone in the school. Not even trying to get a referral to the alternative schooly, just let him come back to school like nothing has happened.

Its an absolute travisty what our education system has become. In NC, we have NCDPI that is over our schools. Ive decided that NCDPI should actually stand for Nothing Changes with Dumb People In charge. I fuggin despise those SOBs.
