Kentucky Summer trip

Cal just announced that UK will be doing a week long Summer exibition trip with the new roster.
If there EVER was a year that Carolina did the same, IT IS RIGHT NOW!
Players, staff and fans need to rinse this season out of our mouths and get excited about 2024.
This team will undoubtedly have a lot of new parts, and leadership and player chemistry needs to be set in place early.
Hubert needs to make this happen.

Tobin Anderson

is the first year HC at Fairleigh Dickinson. His team entered the NCAA tournament with 20 wins. That number is not impressive, but what is very impressive is that the 2021-2022 FDU team totaled 4 wins. In his first year at the school, Anderson increased the program by 16 wins. And his under-sized team is clearly playing against Purdue with no fear and with a whole lot of team-based grit and smarts. Anderson has used his bench well, keeping players rested to remain fresh, and he knows how to use time outs to change the course of things to his advantage.

Perhaps Anderson could be hired as Associate HC to Davis and teach Davis what he knows.

Refreshing

Generally I don't watch the NCAAT if UNC is out of the mix but for whatever reason this year I've watched a good bit of the NCAAT and I got to say the play in the NCAAT is one helluva an upgrade from what we've endured from the ACC and UNC this past season and it's great to see college players actually putting forth 40 minutes of effort and team ball on both ends of the court and playing through some grown man contact without throwing up their arms and sashaying back to the other end of the floor. I've been watching and supporting UNC bball since the mid 60's and about the only thing I can realistically ask for the next UNC squad is to put for something that resembles effort and enthusiasm for what they are doing on both ends of the floor. In other words back to traditional UNC bball.

Conference Supremacy

Well, according to the teams that comprise the Sweet 16, there seems to be very little conference supremacy.
Big East - 3
SEC - 3
Big 12 - 2
Everybody else - 1 (Big 10, Conf USA, PAC 10, WCC, MWC, ACC, American Athletic, Ivy)

2 big takeaways for me.
  1. The SEC is starting to use football money to dominate college BB. They have 3 teams in and that doesn't include UK who got eliminated.
  2. Maybe the Big 12 wasn't quite as dominating as the media and polls made them out to be with only 2 teams in the final 16.

Could the change of offensive philosophies be the biggest reason for this lean season?

For 60 years from Dean Smith to Roy Williams the offense has always played two bigs down in the paint with the results being that many of those teams leaded the nation in rebounds or close to the top season after season. Also forwards went to the line more because they were shooting from in close instead of launching shots from way out.

I do believe this is probably the reason Nance who is a natural five is going thru a shooting slump as he is playing out of position at the four. Last year he averaged 12 points a game with his back to the basket 🧺 playing mostly in the paint 🎨.

Bacot has been taking a beating on both sides of the ball 🏀 being most of the time the only rebounder although Black has been helping as of late.

Also as of late many of the opposing teams are getting second and sometimes third chances to score because Bacot CANNOT GET EVERY REBOUND.

I can not be the only one that have noticed that Bacot is not getting a ton of touches down low because opponents are jamming the lane with extra defenders daring the Carolina guards to punish them by hitting some outside bombs shots and except for the Clemson game has been a very successful strategy . People unknowlegable of the game have complained unfairly about Love and Davis taking so many outside shots but if Bacot being double teamed and the wings not helping with the scoring the guards are LEFT WITH CARRYING THE TEAM.

The spread offense worked last season because a 5 year player in Manek gave the Tar Heels a additional offensive weapon and a team team leader which is so missing this season. This year except for a few times the wing players regardless if they are starters or coming off the bench have not contributed like Manek did game after game.

It is probably too late to go back to the system that worked for so long this season but I started this thread 🧵 to get other people’s opinions if they feel the NBA strategy that Coach Davis implemented last year should be used with the personnel he has this year instead of the two men in the paint 🎨 offensive set.

This is Coach Davis’s team to coach and lead in the way he feels will result best for his team and I for one would hate to have his job following the success Coach Williams had but he has kept his head high and his attitude positive during this difficult transition time.
