He said Today on a Radio Show here in louisville KY. North Carolina men's basketball team is Done Stick a fork in them they are the most disappointing Team in the Country. I couldn't be Mad about Disappointing. I don't think we are done with Games to play but what Irritated me when he said UNC shelled out all this NIL$$$ TO BRING THESE players Back and they haven't Performed and they don't want to be here.

This years team was not DEEP, TALENTED or with a ton of EXPERIENCE…

I have become so tired of seeing so many incorrect posts and comments saying how can a team with 4 players back and a so called talented bench be having such a unexpected lean season. Please let me explain things to you in the simplest way I can.

Love, Davis and Bacot are the expierenced players who must combine for 60 points a contest for Carolina to be in any game because the wing players of Black and Nance are barely combining for 12 points a contest Puff has been out more than he has been available and that has hurt the team.

Dunn and Styles are sophomores and they also DO NOT bring a lot of experience to the team.

Trimble, Washington and Nickel all freshmen have UNPROVEN talent at the college level. Trimble refuses to look to shoot the rock. Washington is coming off a MAJOR INJURY and has had some moments but still looks lost. Nichols can score but remember in high school he dominated less talented tier teams and it is a whole different game now. That is three more with little experience at the college level and it shows.

Shaver now injured along with McKoy
are bigs but both cannot be considered to be contributors offensively and they also have little experience and playing time.

Nance is playing out of position at the four instead of the five so his experience at the power forward and playing with a new team is something that has also hurt the team this season. People expected Nance to be another Manek which was GROSSLY UNFAIR to him.

So the lack of consistent scoring from the wings really hurt the team allowing opponents to double team Bacot and clog up the lanes.

If you think I am way off here saying the team is not DEEP, TALENTED or lack EXPERIENCE then prove me wrong because I have presented a pretty strong case.

Raised Fist

The tired signal is a Tar Heel tradition that I wish Hubert had brought along.

You can't expect guys to keep up their defensive intensity playing heavy minutes game after game. It also effects focus and precision.

The bench has not been used to give starters periods of rest or to attempt to give the kids on the bench some game experience.

It was a mistake for Hubert not to get these kids some run early on. It would've benefitted the team now. Maybe we lose some early games, but you could possibly have a much different looking team at this point.

I want to get behind Coach Davis, but I believe the lack of bench usage is a more than fair criticism.

I hope it doesn't start to hurt recruiting. I mean nobody wants to come and just sit. Will the negative recruiting narrative against Hubert be that if you don't win a starting position you may or may not play?

I've been a Tar Heel fan since 1975 when my Dad took me to see the Tar Heels play an exhibition in Pembroke, NC.

Phil Ford & Walter Davis became my favorites and Mr. Woody Durham on my radio was a constant.

My fist is raised because I'm tired. This has been a frustrating and exhausting season. Hubert has to learn to use his bench. It is something that will help him be a better coach.

Let's GO HEELS!!!

Slumps

I have never seen a team collectively slump like this in my life. Usually it is one or two guys who may be off.

At the same time, I've never seen a team collectively get hot like this one over the last two years. They have the ability to drop a 60 pt half people at anytime.

This is also probably what frustrates me and many fans about these guys the most. My fears coming into this season have come true and probably have been magnified and lasted longer than I expected. I thought Nance would have found his niche on this team sooner. I thought that Caleb would be more consistent especially in his midrange game which is what can make him dangerous IMO. I thought Leaky would develop consistency with his floaters as well (no heroics but a dagger when he contributes). RJ has been what I have expected from him (flaws and all but more plus than minus). I also didn't see him being as streaky as he has been.

I hope that this team can shock me again with another late season run but I'm not sure if lightning strikes twice...

The Q's

Can someone explain to me the definition of all these "Quadrants"? What exactly constitutes a "Q1" win, or a Q2 or Qwhatever?
I see these terms kicked around a lot, so someone must know. Are there standard definitions for all these "quadrants"?

The Sequence against ncsu

First half was okay, we were in it to win it. In the second half we went up by 5 or 6, then came down the floor 5 straight times and didn't get nothing. In the meantime they got back in it, and got their momentum , and we lost it on the floor. The players on the floor lost all their juice after that, went to playing one on one, lost the flow, and ultimately the game. Cannot let that happen again.

My Fear for Next Year

TLDR for anyone who doesn't want to read my manifesto on the future below: I think we are in trouble in 23 and 24 if both Caleb and RJ come back next year. But if they leave I think 23 is a rebuilding year that's not great, while 24 could be a special season.

I've tried not to worry about next year throughout this season, but now I think it's time to start considering the future after the state loss. This isn't a fire Hubert thread because I think he needs time to work through growing as a coach, but I do have a huge concern for next season.

What in the world are we going to do with RJ and Caleb? If they both come back, we are going to be set back another season. I think they have both peaked and it doesn't go up from here. It just stays wildly inconsistent If they come back next year HD has shown he's going to "rock with them" (his own words) come hell or high water. We can take to the bank those guys will play 35+ mpg. That causes a lot of problems.

1) Dunn may decide to leave because he knows he won't ever eat into those minutes 2) If Wilcher stays committed, he gets set back a year. I'm a huge fan of sticking to your commitment, but if I'm Simeon and his parents and see Caleb and RJ are coming back, my palms and feet start getting sweaty thinking about next year. There's no evidence he will see meaningful minutes until he's a sophomore and then Cadeau arrives with Ian Jackson. 3) Speaking of Cadeau, that reclass is out the window. I don't think that's a huge deal, but something to keep an eye on (memories of GG Jackson creeping in...). 4) What in the world happens with Trimble? He hasn't looked great on offense this year, but he's a freshman playing random minutes whenever HD draws his stick from a cup on the bench. At least he brings effort and intensity. Can't say the same for some of the other guys. 5) I fully acknowledge next year will probably be bad without Caleb and RJ, BUT it will set up so much better for 2024. You'll have guys like Trimble, Wilcher, Dunn, and Nickel playing meaningful minutes and they will carry that experience into the 24 season and a class oozing with raw talent. I think that would be extremely beneficial.

I've personally made fun of Duke in the past for K forcing guys to transfer to make room for new players, but this feels like a situation where we actually need to move on from the upperclassmen. I know Hubert probably won't do it because he says over and over how important building relationships is to him and he loves these guys. My fear is that his love for these individual players is detrimental to the long term success of the Heels.

Quad 1

Looking at the Quad 1 rankings here:

At a glance, it looks like Kansas has played the most Quad 1 foes, with a 13-5 record against them. That's more losses than many (most?) teams even had games against Q1 teams, but far and away the most wins, too.

Purdue is next at 9/4.

Houston seems to have the best winning percentage against Q1 opponents with a 4-1 record.

Virginia, the current ACC leader, is 4-4. Miami is in second place in the conference, but leads all ACC schools with a 6-4 record against Q1.

Carolina is dead last in conference at 0-8.

We are also 5th WORST IN THE NATION!

Yikes!

Clearly the Quad rating system is Satan's work and must be eliminated.

What Is Hubert Like As a Coach Out of the Spotlight?

Is he the same upbeat, my-players-are-the-greatest guy he sometimes seems in public? Don't get me wrong, I like that he looks for positives and praises his players. Big fan of positive reinforcement and supportive expectations. But he often goes so over the top that I wonder what the "real" Hubert is like in private, and especially in practices and the locker room. Because, come on, not every player is as good as he has made them out to be, and some never will be.

So who knows what Hubert is like off screen, especially when the going gets tough?

Frankly, I'm hoping to learn he's much more serious and professional than my current impression of him from his public appearances. But is that true? Because clearly our players need that.
