I am as upset with the season as any of you. And I have screamed and cussed at players and coaches. However, I am upset at the venom of many of our posts. Can you imagine how the players and coaches feel? Do you really think they have not tried their best? They all came back to try to win a championship for themselves, our school and us. Their dreams and expectations have been shattered and they will have to live with it their entire lives. We will live with it only to our next winning season. They have to keep playing and they need our support until the end. They probably want it over, too, but they have to play it out. We on the other hand, can just not watch.
I watched the Louisville Cardinals play with more Hunger than these So called Unc players did Today. 😡😡 I can't watch no more of this BS it's not Hubert Davis Fault these are Roy's Players and if they had beat Kansas last all you would of heard he won with Roy's Players. His System will Work with his type of Players. 2 Recruiting Classes then we can be Critics Good and Bad. I have this wait clock in my Head. 2 Recruiting Classes should show fruits of his Labor.

Discussion
The Heels went to Raleigh and, like in so many games recently, shoot poorly, didn't pass well, didn't defend well, but rebounded well. UNC was 35% from the floor, their 59th worst shooting game in the last 985. They were a decent 32% from 3, so it was the 38% from 2 that was the problem. The Assists/FG ratio was an abysmal 0.32, the 24th worst performance since 1996.
UNC turned in an 18th percentile performance on both offense and defense; 0.81 pts/poss and 0.97 pts/poss, respectively. It combined for a Smith Index of -0.2629, making it the 112th worst performance by a UNC in the last 985.
As I've said before, this team's glaring weakness is its defense. Great teams force turnovers, and NCSU only turned the ball over on 4% of its possessions. Only 3 opponents in the last 985 have enjoyed less ball pressure than the Heels applied today. After this week's performances, this team ranks right in the middle in UNC's offensive history, but is the 2nd worst defensive team UNC has had in the 3pt era.
Joe Lanardi said in his lengthy interview during the game, UNC just doesn't do anything well, and I mostly agree with him. Rebounding, however, is clearly this team's strength. In this game UNC enjoyed a 6 possession advantage over NCSU. UNC has outrebounded its last 12 opponents.
After winning 10 of 12 games, UNC has lost 5 of their last 6. The turning point? RJ Davis' injury against Syracuse. Ever since that point UNC's offense and defense have suffered mightily, with the exception of the game against a cliff-diving Clemson team.
For most of the season this team has fit the profile of a 2nd round loss kind of team. Now it finds itself in the company of 2003 and 2018 (as well as last year's team). With Hubert Davis' unwillingness to make striking changes, the return of old RJ is the only thing that can save this team from being the most disappointing team in college basketball history.
Firs time I posted on board after following the board for years. I have been a UNC fanatic since 1964 and I graduated in 81. Just remember all you guys who want Hubert gone. After Frank McGuire left we hired an inexperienced Coach who in his second year came home after a loss only to see his image hung from a tree and burned. If my memory serves me right and at 68 it does, he turned into a pretty good Coach. Step back from the ledge. Your criticism is normal and no one is as frustrated as I am. Give the man a fair chance. What would Carolina Basketball have been like if we had seen Dean fired after only his second year.
Yes, with this core group of players, it started in Roy's last year. Other than last year's tournament run this group has had a most difficult time putting the ball in the basket. With the exception of last March's performance these players have frustrated their coaches (to the point of Roy hanging it up) and the UNC fan base.
Don't get me wrong. As a fan I am truly grateful for the end of last season. Beat Dook twice and had a 15 point lead with 20 minutes to go to an NCAA Championship. Starting with the 2nd half vs Kansas and continuing through what we all hope will be hitting the bottom last night, I have been frustrated to the point that this team losing games no longer bothers me like it used to. Realizing that I shouldn't let UNC winning or losing basketball games eat at me as it has throughout my 60+ years as a fan, I've finally reached my point of resignation. I've had it. If this team can turn it around and start shooting the ball and winning games, that will be great. For me to reinvest it's going to take much more than a couple of wins at the DES. I'll be looking for multiple players to start making shots coupled with some serious effort and desire on defense.
Once it became evident that we weren't going to come back from last night's early deficit, while I kept watching, I had no expectation that there would be a comeback win. Before the game was completely out of reach this group once again demonstrated their inability to shoot the ball. Heels were 1-11 from 3 in the 1st half and when they did make a couple of shots at the rim or inside the arc, Wake just drained a few (wide open) 3's and extended their margin.
Even with this season's 5-0 start (against inferior competition), every team that played the Heels was not intimidated and there was no sense that our guys were physically superior to any team they played. Simply, this team is not that athletically gifted and is truly "the gang that can't shoot straight".
I'll keep watching and hoping for a turnaround, but, to date, I have seen nothing that would lead me to believe that a repeat of March 2022 is in the cards.
Can someone explain what is going on with Washington? Is he on a pitch count? Does he not show up to practice? Will his head explode if he’s on the court for more than 4 minutes at a time?
I refuse to believe he’s not better than Pete Nance and quite frankly Puff Johnson.
I hate to say it but I don't know that I've ever heard a more lame press conference by a UNC coach. HD took none of the blame and sounded completely clueless as to why his "team" has so under performed in almost every game they've played this season. Hey Hubcap .. look in the mirror. Very depressing from a fan's stand point.
Not much else to say except it is time to show up and play like there is no tomorrow. Regardless of what lineup changes and what offensive changes have been input in the last 5 days Carolina with their back to the door 🚪 must play their best game of the season. State likes to play fast and play a tough aggressive defense which played right into Carolina’s hands at Chapel Hill as the Tar Heels lived and won from the free throw line and I would expect the Wolfpack defenders in front of a loud sold out arena to be aggressive again which should lead to another parade to the charity stripe.
Defense WILL INDEED decide this contest as the Wolfpack will start 4 players who average double digits per contest and they cannot not even have a average game from the floor.
Terquavron Smith leads the way averaging 18.3 and Black must find away to hold him down like he did the first time they met. Smith to put it mildly can take over a game either driving or bombing but he does have a tendency to gun.
Jarkel Jorner is a big time three point shooter and his 16.1 scoring average shows that. Love will probably get him. DJ Burns is like a big time Bull in a China shop. Bacot MUST FORCED him to go right because he is deadly going to his left…
Turnovers must be kept to a minimum because State lives and dies with the points they get from their defensive pressure.
Finally the big three of Bacot,Davis and Love must again carry the majority of the offense and any kind of scoring from Black and Johnson will be a bonus.
Got to play like a animal trapped in a corner with no place to go but as we all know a trapped animal are the most dangerous when cornered so let the cards fall as they may..
Because I grew up in TN and never knew anyone who'd ever attended Moo, when I first heard that cheer, after arriving in Chapel Hill, I shook my head. No, I hated Dook most. But once I got to know a bunch of NCSU alums and students, I knew why that cheer meant so much. The Moo bunch is utterly revolting.
