2017 Atlanta Braves Thread (w/ occasional Red Sox talk for Hark)

I'll totally admit I was wrong last year and the year before when I kept questioning why Freeman was exempt from the fire sale.

Dude just keeps getting better and better. He's a hitting machine.

Even though they came through for us tonight, the Braves have the weakest bench. D'Arnaud, Recker, Suzuki, Peterson, Bonifacio. Yeeeeesh.

Anyway, go Braves!!

Swanson needed that walk-off hit in the worst way last night. I always go back and forth whether or not we should start the season off with Brandon Phillips hitting second and Dansby hitting lower and then easing him up there, but I guess there's no better spot in the lineup to hit than in front of Freddie.

He's trash, and I don't know why he's here.

7 innings, 2 runs against one of the best teams in the NL and an ump who doesn't know the strike zone. Can't ask for much better than that.
I ASK FOR WHAT I WANT.

But yeah I know I'm being too harsh. A quality start against the Nats is all you can ask for.

Btw, Dusty Baker is managing like a winner tonight. Letting Scherzer, his #1, pitch 7 full innings, even though he's at 115 pitches. Winning baseball right there.

This is gonna be a loss, but I really liked what I saw from Folty tonight. Last year, he wouldn't have made it through that fifth inning, and he would have given up about five runs. He lost it a little bit, gave up a couple of runs, but he pulled it together, limited the damage and pitched two more solid innings after that. Progress.

Why does Emilio Bonifacio keep getting all these chances? Release him and just put Ryan Howard on the team. He's like 55 years old, but at least he's a threat and will make the pitcher think about what he's doing.

I really don't know. Coppy is pretty brilliant with his roster moves and transactions, so it's really baffling why he has allowed the bench (and bullpen) to be so weak. Is it simply to hold down spots for now, with an aim toward bringing up young guys throughout the season? Baffling.

Also I'm sick of losing to the damn Nats. It was a winnable game tonight.

I turned the game off right after d'Arnaud struck out, but I'm reading this morning that CB Bucknor actually called it a foul tip and let the AB continue. Is that for real??? I heard he struck out again on the next pitch, but holy crap, how can someone be that bad at umpiring? That's unbelievable. Bucknor has to be doing these things just for the spite of it. There's no way anyone can be that bad for as long as he has.

It's real. Ron Washington was coked up and though d'Arnaud foul tipped it when really he missed it by a solid 6 inches. So Wash runs over and implores Buckner to confer with the other umps, and they decide he did indeed foul tip it. This was after the Nats were already shaking hands and the grounds crew was on the field.

Chase struck out on the very next pitch because, you know, he's Chase d'Arnaud and it was over. Jayson Werth looked like he wanted to kill Buckner. Half the team had to hold him back.

I immediately regret betting the Braves in this game. I forgot that Julio is the Nats' bitch (in addition to us being the Nats' bitch in general). 4-16 in our last 20 against them.

So, ballpark in the center of where all the suburban-heavy Braves fans are located, and it looks emptier than it did at Turner Field last year. Ummmm...

Don't do this yet, lol

But yeah, I've been disappointed big time. The fanbase completely abandoned ship when the playoffs streak stopped and is still recovering. A lot of folks aren't paying enough attention to know we're laying the foundation to be good. They just think "the Braves still suck." Plus, you know, Atlanta sports fans.

I was going to go to a game tonight but everyone is busy. I'll poast some pics later tonight I took from Sunday's game.
