2017 Atlanta Braves Thread (w/ occasional Red Sox talk for Hark)

No one cares about your East Carolinian no-baseball-team-having metal-head ass.
There is not a professional team, but there is approximately 3,000 minor league teams in NC and I've been to a crap load of those games. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that NC has a hockey team, but no MLB team.

And no that concert won't be as good as it could be, because Avenged won't be the headliner
*Sigh* Your music knowledge just isn't as good as I thought.

Because, yankees. And yep, so many MiLB teams. Off the top of my head... Mudcats, Dash, Grasshoppers, Tourists, Knights, ... that's all I've got.

First of all, GFYWASpoon. Second, I'm mostly just f***ing with you. But you have to remember, I was born in '89. So, their biggest albums all came out before I was born. Avenged is the (I'll admit, poor man's) Metallica of my age bracket.

Either way, A7x basically is a Metallica tribute band, now, in terms of their style.

It better stay that way too. If a team ends up in, let's say, Charlotte, that means I lose Braves coverage, which means I will burn that new team's stadium to the ground.
North Carolina won't get a baseball team for three reasons:

1. The Charlotte vs. Raleigh location quandary, which is an issue for any pro sports team wanting to locate to N.C.

2. Atlanta Braves

3. Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles

That's probably the biggest reason. The Nationals should have been a NC team instead of f**king DC.
Yeah there was no point in putting a team in D.C. Do you at least subscribe to my Raleigh vs. Charlotte point? It's playing itself out right now in North Carolina trying to get an MLS team. Charlotte is a much better location for that than Raleigh is.

I don't think it would stop a team from moving there, but I'm sure it doesn't help either. I do agree that Charlotte is a better location. Baseball is a little different in my opinion. Baseball is very popular there. You could put a major league team in Roy's hometown and they would have better attendance than most MLB teams.

I mean, you could move the Braves to Macon or Athens and they'd draw better than they did at Turner. But yes I see your point.

I just think that North Carolina's population is so uniformly distributed throughout the state, that it's tough to pin down where to put a pro team. If you put it in Charlotte, you capture Charlotte and surrounding metros and it's not crazy to think you can capture everything West of Charlotte including Hickory and all the way over to Asheville IF your sport is one that plays once a week like NFL or MLS. But you're probably not getting folks all the way from the Raleigh area and you're obviously not getting folks from Down East. Same problem but reversed if you put a team in Raleigh.

If you put a baseball team in Charlotte or Raleigh, you're going to run into the exact same problem the Braves have always had: the Braves have a MASSIVE fanbase, but so many of them live too far away to attend a sport that is played on all days of the week. It's why the Braves attendance spikes big time on weekends and especially on long weekends. If the Braves were a football team, they could field a 90,000 capacity stadium every Sunday. The frequency of baseball games really works against the Braves.

The good thing about Charlotte is you can bring in fans from SC too. A decent size of the Panthers fan base comes from SC since it is so close. There is a reason they named themselves the Carolina Panthers instead of the Charlotte Panthers.

The Braves have a massive fan base because they had no competition for a long time and still don't have much now. A lot of those Braves fans in NC and SC would start going to Charlotte.

At this point it doesn't matter to me though. I'm certainly not going to be taking any trips to Charlotte for a baseball game. Hell, I think I would rather see the Gwinnett Braves play instead of the "Atlanta" Braves. It's a lot closer to me and I can get a better return on my money. Why should I go all the way to Cobb county to see minor league baseball when I can just go to Gwinnett and not have to pay as much?

LOL you're so salty bro.

And yes I'm aware of the Carolina naming instead of North Carolina. It also wasn't an accident that they played their first season in Clemson to cultivate the fanbase.

How does any of that make me salty? Do you honestly think that lack of competition didn't help the Braves gain fans throughout the southeast?

"...instead of the "Atlanta" Braves..."
"Why should I go all the way to Cobb county [sic] to see minor league baseball when I can just go to Gwinnett and not have to pay as much?"

I think that avatar is starting to mess with your head. Hopefully this will help explain the post.

ETA: I'm not even a Braves fan, so my level of caring about their location and performance is non existent.

2ETA: The address to SunTrust park is Battery Ave, so if Metallica doesn't play battery I'm going to be disappointed.

I hate replay. Wanna get the calls right? Get better umpires. You can't make the effort to improve the game's tempo and implement this BS replay system. Make the best call you can make and get on with it. Not happy with the call? Tough shit.

I love Julio Teheran. Dude had subpar stuff, to say the least, but he just guts his way through the game. Young pitchers, take notice. That's how a big leaguer works.

Haha I was just thinking the same thing. He rambles on and on and on and hardly ever about the game.
Who is it? I missed the start. I think it's really weird that it's the national Fox guys but it's on Fox Sports South, not regular Fox.

Generally I never mind announcers, but this dude is particularly annoying lol. The color commentary guy, not the PBP guy.

Preston Wilson, former Rockies CF.

These announcers are on because the game was supposed to be on FS1. Some other game went over, so they just moved it to FS South.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info, I was very confused lol.

I like us going back to back. That's real nice. That Adonis homer didn't look like a homer when it came off his bat. Shorter right center paying dividends.

Dude obviously doesn't know the players, which drives me mad. Jose Ramirez is constantly 96-99 and he makes a comment indicating velocity isn't his thing. Know the players, dude. Shouldn't be hard.

That's the problem with national announcers. Chip can be cheesy but I love Joe Simpson. Those guys make watching the game enjoyable.

Huge couple play right there.

Does Charlotte carry the Braves' radio feed. If so, you gotta check out Don Sutton. Dude is amazing.
Probably, but I never do that, and yeah, I used to enjoy Don Sutton back in the TBS days. I always stick with the TV broadcast. Never care enough about announcing to switch to radio, despite how awful these guys are. Besides, the radio feed would be way ahead of me anyway.

Yeah I wouldn't do that either. I can't do it for Carolina games because of where I live, but I wouldn't do it even if I could.

Three in a row *thumbs up emoji*
