2017 Recruiting Class Thread....

Brelin Faison-Walden 6' 196# safety has moved up to warmer for UNC , would be great to get him and Green as the next 2 commits. Both predicted by Ross Martin recently.
Would be an awesome kickstart to a somewhat slow recruiting period (which followed our gangbusters start to the recruiting campaign of course!)

I like recruiting 1 QB per class, and that can be met by redshirting 1of 2 from a double class.

We need bodies on the DL and OL.
My feelings exactly. I think we're getting there with regards to building a little depth on the OL but we really need defensive linemen in the worst way. I think we can compete fairly evenly with most schools at the skill positions, we have a ways to go along the lines. And games are won in the trenches.

Yeah it is a bit frustrating. It's like having all sorts of artistic talent and ideas, but you can't find a store to buy canvass from.

In ACC recruiting today Kalil Pimpleton has committed to VT and Poutasi Poutasi to UL.

DT grad transfers are as scarce as hen's teeth.
Maybe somebody on our OL and not able, or ready, to make the 2-deep could be a serviceable DT.

I thought Caleb Samuel might make a a solid guy on the DL - which is what some schools recruited him for.

I went to Texas sites to read what they say about Raulerson and his transfer. They tend to see him as having not fulfilled his excellent progress. That, of course, can be true and mean that the staff has failed him and that at another school, he could fulfill all his HS potential.

And one poster said that when Raulerson committed to Texas, they all felt he could be a starter on either side of the ball. So Raulerson played some DT in HS and well enough that Horns fans thought he might be a DT, and start, at Texas.

Now this gets interesting. Perhaps Raulerson is interested in UNC because he thinks he might be swerved well with a shot at DT, and he'd get that in Chapel Hill. If he is not quite up to snuff at DT, he could start for us on the OL in 2017.

Sounds like he got some reps as a RS Frosh at center, but didn't play much at all his RS Soph yr. He'd be like another Brad Henson - plays guard and center and has two yrs left.

As for OL, if he is better than Brad Henson or we don't like what we see from Hatton as a center, then bring him!

As for DT, we need all the help we can get there. Guys can't stay healthy or keep their grades in order, so if could be in the two deep then take him.

Considering injuries that can happen, if he can barely be 3rd team at DT, we should beg him to come aboard. I think we will be OK at DT with what we have, if no one gets injured. But if Jones misses 2 games and Clarke misses a game and half and Dalton plays half gimpy in 4 games and Crawford clearly needs a year to catch up to major college football, then we will get burned up the middle.

My first response to this was: we have enough seniors on the OL for 2016. But he has 2 years of eligibility left. He can come in and make sure our OL 2 deep is the best in the ACC and get prepared to start in 2017 with a year of ACC experience.

Now if he could just bring us a grad transfer DT

Amen. Sounds like a no brainier if we could get him.

Population of GA is 10.1 million , population of NC is 9.9 million. Georgia is a freak of a state when it comes to producing CFB prospects.

But black population is about 3.1 to 2.0 million which is a real significant difference since of course that is mostly the pool you sign from.

Georgia has more African Americans than California, and thus when you talk basketball or football recruiting you have to amend traditional notions of big v small states.

good point.

Texas OT transfer Jake Raulerson commits to Arkansas. He was not accepted into the UNC Sports Admin masters program.

2017 targets visiting yesterday Jaylen Twyman 6'2" 290 DT and Nathan Proctor serious long term UNC LB target.

Recent UNC crystal ball picks Kameron Duncan RB , Ameer Speed CB and Michael Carter RB all out of FL unless I am mistaken.

I just saw we got a crystal ball pick for Traivon Leonard 6'1" DB from West palm Beach who is a 2*. I was thinking what? , but then I see he has recent offers from Auburn , ND , LSU and TN : anybody know anythng about this kid?

Anybody who has gotten offers from all those programs has big time potential. Some guys fly under the radar for a long time.

At tonight's Freak Show, UNC secured commitments from 3-star OG Brian Anderson and 3-star CB Caleb Rozar.

There was also rumor of a commitment from 3-star RB Michael Carter, but there are apparently some undisclosed details around his pledge that prevent it from being official yet.
Anderson is another of those AL boys. Per capita, AL produces a lot of talent, especially of the blue collar kind. Anderson has the private school back ground that should mean he has 0 trouble getting admitted and remaining academically eligible at UNC. Some people think he could play C in college.

Rozar is a Tennessean. There are some here who see him as 'freak athlete.' He seems to be big enough and strong enough to add a little weight and play OLB. And though he is a legit 6-3 195, many think he can play CB. Think about that. How many CBs are even 6-1?

Rozar had 2 crystal ball predictions yesterday for Wake...LMFAO at wake. Most of Anderson's tape was at T but UNC will play him at G or C per Ross Martin.

I'd also be surprised if we didn't land another OL before then.
The highest rated one we have a chance to sign is Nick Brahms from FL, but I have my doubts he will be a Tar Heel. My gut tells me has enough of the SEC bug that Auburn or Tennessee will win out.

The staff may see Billy Ross of WV as its 1B OT to Brahms as its 1A OT. Ross is 6-5, which is the kind of height Kap prefers on the outside.

A couple of months ago, I said that I thought OT Zach Quinney of GA could be our 2nd OL commit. He may be a legit 6-6, and I think he is a somewhat late developer who will turn out to be as good a college OT as virtually any 4 star player. If we are taking 1 OT, then Quinney may be 3rd on the wish list. But the staff might prefer Charlotte's TJ Moore. As with Brahms, my gut tells me that Moore prefers playing in the SEC, which in his case means he is most likely going to be a Vol or Gamecock.

If we get any of those 4 OTs, then our OL class of 3 will be very good.

FSU has been after Billy Ross.

i guess we'll have to see how the final rankings lie, but neither Anderson or Rozar had big offers

Anderson had a TON of offers, they were just on the level of Wake, Southern Miss, Bowling Green, Indiana. Maybe that is how it goes with Centers.

And Rozar's only big offers were Louisville, Miss State, Georgia Tech. Maybe he just hasn't been on the recruiting circuit for camps and stuff, but when guys are 3 stars with few offers they are either hidden from the typical scouting services (which is getting more and more rare considering all the camps and all the video and other media) or there is something questionable about them - speed, instinct, technique, skills, attitude, or projected size.

Anderson was described as having a mean streak but he seems a little lacking weight wise. Rozar was described as a freak athlete. They both are mid 3*'s so just hoping the staff is a great judge of talent. Todd Gurley was a mid 3* most of his senior year so there's hope.

Someone better do their best to get all over Crest LB Justin Foster. That kid is a beast, yes I'm a Crest homer, but the truth is the truth. He is a BEAST!
Foster has eliminated us but has Kensucky in his top 8. The other 7 are legit FB teams , but freakin' azz Kensucky for football? He must have taken some real shots to the head last year.

Bold prediction: We make it into someone's final three-four teams that the 'Old Carolina' would have no chance landing a visit from, much less a commit, due to talent-level and geography. Not saying we get said player, but we'll be in his final teams, sorta like Nate Craig-Myers.

My prediction? DT Aubrey Solomon from Leesburg, Ga.
Solomon committed to freakin' mechegan near the end of last week. I guess Harbaugh camped out on his lawn.

Yeah I saw that too and said WTF. How does Michigan pluck a dude out of Leesburg, Ga? For one, that's prime FSU territory. For two, has the dude ever been to Michigan? He will freeze his ass off up there. I do not get the appeal of playing at Michigan. Their success is all in the ancient past and they're in a dying state.

Look at Andersons Hudl tape.. The kid is a head hunter to will drive u to the ground, and continue to drag you across the turf if he could.. Definitely has a mean streak which you cant really coach.. He is on the light size 6'3 270(according to rivals) 280(according to other sites) nothing a college weight and nutrition program cant fix. He may be 3* due to him not being a instant factor on campus.. He will probably need to red shirt and get his weight and strength up
