2017 Recruiting Class Thread....

True to some extent. The parents may be transplants but a lot of the kids were born in Georgia. Richt's recruiting had been a complaint from the fan base. Example: Richt didn't offer Jake Fromm he was all in on Hockman. After Richt's firing the new staff offered Fromm and he jumped on the offer because he had always wanted to play for UGa and had basically committed to Bama as a "I'll show you". There are over 40 4-5* players in GA for the 2017 cycle they cannot take them all.

^ All of that is possible because UGA notoriously fails at keeping elite in-state talent. Maybe it will change under Kirby, but I doubt it will. It isn't all UGA's fault. Atlanta and its surrounding suburbs have little overall loyalty to UGA and virtually none to Tech, due to Atlanta's transient nature. No one in Metro Atlanta is from Atlanta or even Georgia, by and large. Thus, the area is completely up for grabs.

You say that but compared to the instate schools at similar states - Florida, Texas, etc - we are much better. You can never get every kid in a state as hotly recruited as Georgia is, but do you want to compare our record with the top ten kids in this state with those states, much less UNC and South Carolina?

I've seen you post that stuff before and wondered where you got your info. You posted that we "notoriously" don't recruit So Georgia well - we've dominated the top So Georgia prospects the last 5-6 years.

Recruiting has never been our problem - we are top ten almost every year and it's largely because we control our state about as much as anyone can. We need to take that next step on the field of course because even with 9-10 win seasons almost every year it's tough when you go 10 years without a conference title much less a million without a national title.

You simply can't be familiar with Atlanta if you say "no one is from Georgia" - that's ridiculous. It's not Lower Manhatten but more like Charlotte - yes its transient but overwhelmingly made up of people from the state. Most kids are in fact from Georgia and more are Georgia fans as opposed to any other school by a long shot. Not close.

Do some homework - go back 5 years and look at the Georgia top 20 and see where those 100 went. Tell me if its "wide open" or if UGA seems to have a big big edge.

I've lived in Atlanta my whole life so I'm familiar with the people here.

And does uga get a lot of Georgia talent? Sure. But y'all whiff on a fair share. Why would we compare UGA's in-state success with UNC's? One is a perennial Top 10 program in the best conference; the other is not.

Welcome to the Hill Adarius. Wise choice. Congrats coaches. Open the flood gates!

Go Heels!!

My wish list for the remainder of the class:

  • WSDE Luiji Vilain
  • DT Aubrey Solomon
  • QB Bailey Hockman
  • RB Khalan Laborn
  • One more WR, be it Tee Higgins, Shi Smith, or Sage Surratt
  • OG TJ Moore
  • No clue about offensive tackle...?
  • SSDE and inside LB??
  • OLB Justin Foster (pipe dream)
  • OLB Tyshon Fogg and/or OLB Brelin Faison-Walden and/or Sherrod Greene
  • CB Lamont Wade (pipe dream)
  • S Devon Hunter
  • DT Xach Gill

Would like at least 2 more DTs...I would think 1 more RB...Logan is gone and good chance Hood as well...

How many total do you think we take in this class? We're set to graduate 15 seniors. If Hood or someone goes pro or a few people Medical-out or flunk-out this summer and next spring that will be even more open spots.

People talk about Nazair or Hood looking like potential candidates to go pro, but I think MJ Stewart looks as good as Nazair. Does Nazair really look like early-round material? He is athletic but not in the way someone like Coples was athletic. Maybe some 3-4 D would like him up front.

Anyway, i'm guessing we have room for 19 or 20 when the dust settles.

I'd say definitely work under the assumption that Hood will go pro. He probably should, just based on the short shelf-life of NFL running backs. Obviously Logan will be gone after this year. So yeah, I'd say may need another RB in addition to Lemons. Because if EH leaves in addition to TJL, you'll have:

- Sophomore Jordon Brown (assuming he doesn't RS)
- Junior Ty'Son Williams (jury is still out on him for now, due to his injuries last year)
- Freshman Adarius Lemons

And that's basically it.

As for other potentially early exits, I think there's a good chance M.J. Stewart goes after this season. I don't think Naz goes unless he absolutely blows up this year.

Laborn is a heavy FSU lean.

Could be coincidental and happenstance. But I've glanced at his Twitter a couple times sporadically and he was complaining about this and that.

In all fairness, one complaint was about campus parking control and everyone hates them sumb*tches.

ETA: after perusing his Twitter for awhile, I believe I spoke out of turn. I must have just caught him on a couple bad days. He seems like a good dude. Even has started a charity or organization of some sort.

Also, side note: lots of current and (recent) past Tar Heel Football players are supporting and tweeting about the basketball team's tourney run. That's awesome to see.

Nice to see Fedora in the locker room celebration too!

I read at one time Rasheed Martin was a commit. Most recruiting services just list him as a heavy lean. Anyone know what's going on there? We are also recruiting Javon Leake from Greensboro. We need to clamp down harder on the Greensboro area.

Anyone know why we didn't offer Grant Gibson? He seemed pretty high on UNC and his parents are alums, I believe, but we didn't offer and he committed to State. Maybe we are shooting higher but not too many guys 6'1" and 288 lbs rated that high. By that I mean he has a lower center of gravity and ideal, at least for some coaches, for nose tackle.

The word is Gene Chizik prefers taller DT's (Jordon Riley is 6'6", Kyree Campbell and Marlon Dunlap are both 6'5"). Always sucks to not get someone who loves the Heels, but I can certainly understand wanting tall DLinemen.

I don't think Hood will go. He's very high on education and seems to be doing very well for himself too. Could be wrong, money talks louder.
Education can be finished after the fact. He needs to go if his stock is high. RB careers are too short. One fewer season in college means one (or more) potential year of money earnings on the backend of his career. He's already been banged up a few times in his Carolina career.

Yep. I think Hood is definitely gone after this year, assuming he is a high draft pick and believe he will be. Fans need to enjoy him while we can. It would be the right thing for him to do, imho.

Of course, he could get injured which would suck and then not be a sure bet and so come back. My hope is he has a fabulously awesome season and then does what he thinks is best for him.

Stop feeding the trolls lol. I didn't even click the link.

Anyway, getting back on track here...lots of new offers from the Heels, lately. I'm very curious to see who and when the next commit pops!

All such links, including those that are about selling products, should be deleted ASAP.

My 'problem' with the class so far is that we have 3 WR commits, and seem to be high on the list of a couple other top WR recruits. We don't need to over-sign WRs.

I am always big on the trenches guys, so I hope we get more early commits on the OL and DL. I love the GA pipelines we are creating. And thus I would like to see Zach Quinney of Savannah commit. He is not as highly ranked as some guys on the OL we have a god chance to land, but he is a GA boy. The more GA players we get, the more GA HS coaches there are who like us and the more that GA recruits will feel at home visiting the UNC program. I also think Quinney is one of those OL players who is a later developer and mazy end up better than a number of guys now with much hotter reps.

I'd love to have Xach Gill commit, which would make our future interior DL National Championship level.

WE need a couple of top LB commits. I think Georgian Malik Robinson will be the first, and I'd love to see Tyshon Fogg of MD right on his heels.

Woad I am right their with you...If I am not mistaken we were able to RS all of the OL class last year...So give me 3 OL and 6 DL....Would like 4 DT but I will take 3 and 3...Need that to beat FSU and the Tigers moving forward IMO....
