2018 Atlanta Braves thread

The sport definitely has some issues, but I'm tired of reading all of the negative baseball articles - attendance down, more strikeouts than hits, etc.

First off, attendance is down in a lot of sports, not just baseball, mainly because it's gotten to expensive to see a live sporting event when factoring in the cost of tickets, concessions and parking. The weather has also been bad early this season. That's a factor as well.

Now, the rising number of strikeouts and the whole three true outcomes for plate appearances is an issue. But it can be addressed with rule changes that do enough to fix the problem without drastically altering the game. We've seen that happen in both basketball and football.

I love baseball and I always will.

I think Manfred has done a great job instituting 2 huge rule changes to speed up the game:

1. Batters have to stay in the batters box in between pitches
2. Limit the amount of mound visits per game.

I've found the sport much more watchable recently.

I heard that stat the other day as well. April was the first month in the history of MLB where there were more strikeouts than hits across the league, and that May is on pace for the same as well.

I think that's a huge issue that is affecting the watchability of the game. People like to see action.

It's the whole analytics movement where home runs are all that matters even if a player hits 40-50 HR's with a .240 average. I think having players like that can win regular season games, but you still need all-around hitters for the post-season when teams are facing the top 3 starters of the opposing team every night.

Snit overthinking this shit! He better not have a righty face Harper, I’ll lose it!

I gotta say something about Sean Newcomb. Watching that first inning, I thought he fell back down to Earth and we've been reintroduced to the Sean Newcomb of old. That didn't happen, and he clamped down and dazzled yet again. This dude is for real, and I hope he's a big part of this rotation for a very long time. He has simple mechanics, and there's something about his "mound presence" that I love. He stands up there like he owns the mound. I did not see that from him at all last year, and he has really turned the corner. He's the ace of this staff.

I agree 100%. His mound presence has been outstanding this year. He acts as if nothing bothers him and that he owns that mound and the plate.Perhaps Folty should pay real close attention when Newcomb pitches and take some mental notes, hell, maybe even write some down if he needs to. If I'm not mistaken Folty is on the bump tonight and I will be extremely interested in seeing how he follows his good performance in Boston.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson joins the investment group that is attempting to bring an MLB team to Portland. I know Manfred said in the past that he wants a firm resolution for the stadium issues in Oakland and Tampa before considering expansion. I hope he sticks by that. If it comes to relocation, I don't want it to be Oakland. I think they have history there and I hope they can figure out a way to finally get the much-needed ballpark.

If they expand and don't put a team in NC, I think my head might explode from the stupidity.

I don't see an MLB team working in NC to be honest. I think it's more of a college sports state with front running pro fans other than the NFL.

If a hockey franchise can survive in Raleigh, then a baseball team certainly could. There is plenty of appetite for pro baseball in NC. That's why there are 500 minor league teams in NC. They really don't need a new team. Just move Tampa to NC.

I think I read recently that the Hurricanes are near the bottom in average attendance of all NHL teams.

But it's still doing good enough to survive in a state that doesn't give a shit about hockey. Baseball is a big sport in NC. The demand is there.

Damn that strike 3 on Camargo wasn’t even close to a strike!!! DAMN!!!!!

Game probably gonna come down to the bullpens and yes Folty is absolutely dealin!

And this trash reliever who has done nothing but give runs since getting called up gives up the go ahead run to Max freaking Scherzer. Unreal.
